I've eaten at the Grant House several times. Never had a bad meal there. The decor is amazing and you can tour the hotel rooms upstairs.
Best place to eat in Rush City by far.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Patricia L.Duluth, MN329Mar 21, 2017
My husband and I are regular visitors to Grant House. We always have a lovely time. This time we chose a different room and overall had a pleasant stay. We ate light for our dinner meal. We both chose the salad bar, which held no surprises. The soup was outstanding and I wished that I had left room for another bowl.
The room was charming, although the mattress was in need of replacement. We felt no need to ask for a different room, though, as we were settled in and otherwise liked the room. Our only real difficulty during our stay was the heavily scented bed linens. Because of my asthma and sensitivity to perfumes, we had to remove them from the bed completely before I could breathe. My husband, who does not suffer from fragrance sensitivity, also commented on how strong the scent was on the bed linens.
The staff was very kind and attentive and we enjoyed a terrific breakfast before taking off for the day.
I recommend the Grant House for a relaxing, old-world get-away, especially if you enjoy historic buildings and the feeling of being pampered.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angelina B.Pine City, MN47Jan 31, 2016
We love the Grant Hotel. The food is always great! The staff is always wonderful and attentive. The place is very family friendly . Stacy , Tammy and Barbara are the best!
The hotel is charming and a step back in time.
We love everything about the Grant Hotel.
We highly recommend a night at the hotel, and/or just a visit for the food.

We reserved the Grant House over a year ago. We reserved the entire hotel for our wedding party. We called to check on reservations beginning of 2017 and found out that there were randoms staying at the hotel. After much phone tag, the owner was willing to remove those guests from the hotel.Â
We found out a week before the wedding that two people had cancelled their rooms. Rush City is an hour from the cities and way farther for my family in the South. We called immediately after finding out that rooms were cancelled because we had plenty of people to take those spots. We were told that they gave the spot to a random guy who had Friday and Sunday booked because it was available and "room blocks" get let go at a certain point. We were very frustrated as we were not notified that that particular room was available. Yes, to a certain extent, that is on our friend but it would have taken the hotel 30 seconds to call and ask if we had someone to take that space. They never rectified that situation.Â
Then, the day of the wedding, our best man was hospitalized and we knew that he would have to pay for the room since it was last minute. He called to pay and told the staff that he was donating his room to the wedding and that we could have friends stay in it since it was paid for. When we arrived at the end of the night, around midnight, there was no one at the front desk, no one answering our countless calls. Had we realized that the room was wide open, we would have just had them stay but who knows the charges that would have occurred if that was the case. The hotel staff/booking process seems very unorganized.Â
We planned on having a big breakfast on Sunday morning and utilizing a private room that they had no one booked in. Because of all of the complications/problems with hotel staff, we chose not to have our post-wedding brunch there.Â
However, overall, loved the rooms. It didn't feel haunted. The bridal suite was huge.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hazel S.Minneapolis, MN08864Oct 24, 2012First to Review
I was a bit disappointed in the food, except for the desserts which are made from scratch. They were great. I had a coconut cream pie that was just like Mom's.
We went on steak night and I had a New York Strip. I thought the meat was a bit flavorless and the steak seemed to be pan seared rather than cooked on a grill. It was cooked a bit unevenly. My sides were pretty rough, too. The broccoli was overcooked and sort of greyish. My baked potato was fine.
Other guests were very pleased with their pizza, which was cut in squares St. Louis style!
The service here is great, and very friendly. The menu is massive. I think they could perhaps improve their quality if they focused more on their strengths and cut down the size of their menu a bit.
Finding a local farmer (this is out in the middle of the country!) for their meat could really make this place a destination.
Finally, it is in a gorgeous historic building that is an inn. This could be a really romantic spot if someone fixes the lighting and spiffs up the decor a bit.
Basically, lots of potential here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shelbie S.Cambridge, MN87232Nov 19, 2017
Best food I've had in awhile, especially if you're craving a home cooked meal! Staff was nice and the environment was beautiful!

Excellent food! The service we received was fantastic! The remodel is very tastefully done and brings back wonderful memories of the past. We were not rushed through our meal like you are at chain eatery's so the meal was even more enjoyable.

Every once in awhile a hotel comes along that was so wonderful that you can hardly believe your luck. Our family was recently the recipients of such good fortune. Our nephew was getting married. In January. In Rush City. In January. We are from sunny Florida. So with some trepidation we searched for hotels near (really near) the venue. Upon consulting Yelp we selected the Grant House. We read about the lovely rooms and the restaurant, but none of the reviews could possibly have prepared us for the hospitality. In all we had 12 family members staying at the hotel. Tammy our waitress was funny and cheerful. We all had breakfast together in the beautifully decorated dining room. Tammy knew, almost supernaturally, who had regular, decaf, tea, who needed sugar, only stevia, creamer, or milk. The food was wonderfully prepared and delivered flawlessly. I would say it was like being at my mother's house, except we never got to make special requests like these. Barbara the owner was a delight and gave me a "Tour of Tablecloths" which as a collector I truly enjoyed. We ate all our breakfasts and lunches at the hotel for three days and were never disappointed each item was wonderful.
The spacious rooms are charming, full of lovely touches that truly set the Grant House apart from your chain hotels. The claw foot tubs were a hit, my mother in law had a room with a regular shower which was easier to navigate. The beds were firm but comfortable. The furniture ranged from wide armchairs to a fun fainting couch. Coffee service is available in the rooms and a small fridge was great for keeping snacks. There is pride of ownership visible everywhere. An outstanding stay!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Francis S.Chicago, IL31987Nov 1, 2012
Every time I've stopped here with my girlfriend, we've had an excellent meal and an excellent time. The interior of the Grant House has been beautifully restored, and really brings you back to the era that the building was constructed in. Their menu has an excellent selection, from burgers to gyros and everything in between. They also offer a brunch depending on the hour, and unfortunately I've never caught it. They also advertise as a bed and breakfast, and the rooms upstairs are again beautifully restored to their classic style. Overall, an excellent classy stop in Rush City, and highly recommended.
