I had originally bought the Groupon for 4 months just to see what the classes were like. I ended up joining this gym right after my Groupon membership was done. The classes they have here are awesome! Body Pump is my all time favorite. What makes the classes really fun and challenging are the instructors. They're always so positive and motivating! Shoutout to Lori, Mike, Eileen, Stacey, and Beth for always kicking my butt in Body Pump and Body Attack!!
Besides the classes and plenty of machines, they also have a sauna in the women's locker room. This place is always clean and staff is friendly. Glad I switched over to this gym! I definitely recommend the classes!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mike S.Secaucus, NJ753310Aug 21, 2016
Gold's Gym used to be great when I started going in March 2015, but I am seeing a definite slide in both the weight/cardio machine maintenance and the increase of machine hogs that don't want you to work in there with them. What do I mean by machine maintenance?
Carabiners (the clips used to hold different attachments) are constantly missing from machines either because some meathead wants to use 2 carabiners on one bar or because they are too dumb to realize they took it off when they removed an attachment. Some machines do have zip ties on the carabiners so you can't remove them. You would think they would do that on all the machines. Zip ties are 5 cents a piece in bulk, carabiners are $2 per piece. How cheap are these owners not fixing this considering the amount of people signed up at $55/month?
Weights on the machine weight stacks stick together because no one takes the time to spray between each weight on each stack once a month or so. That can really injure you if you are not careful. Cables get stripped of the protective plastic sleeves from heavy use so it makes the machines more difficult to use. Usually when that happens it takes 3 weeks to get a replacement cable installed.
Some of the recumbent bikes are from the early 1990's it seems and the worn out mechanisms have not been rebuilt. They finally spent a ton of money replacing worn out treadmills about a year ago but still no love for replacing some really shot recumbent bikes.
This place seems really set up for the soccer moms taking classes as not many classes start after 7 or 7:30 pm, which is when many NYC working commuters would be able to take classes. Also if you just use treadmills, free weights, or kettle bells, you will probably be happy with this place. I can't review the personal trainers as some of the front desk staff seems unsure how to schedule an appointment with a trainer.
This place could be so much better with a little TLC. It wants to be on a level with NYSC or Equinox, but it falls short.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kalo A.Hackensack, NJ01Aug 4, 2018

I have tried out many gyms.
Love this gym. Love the group classes, where I always feel welcome and don't ever feel intimidated. Everyone who works here is super friendly and nice. The gym is very clean with a great schedule of classes and lots of different things to do to keep in shape while also having fun. I actually enjoy coming here. I love the knowledgeable staff and instructors. I also love the fact that they have a juice bar where I can get a smoothie after my work out. The Les mills classes and instructors ARE AMAZING. Highly recommend Gold's gym.
Thank you, Gold's gym for being so awesome and helping me to get in great shape. Did I mention how much I love Lori and her Les Mills BodyCombat classes?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jordan G.UPR MONTCLAIR, NJ5720Jan 21, 2019

I like golds gym. Been coming for years. Has everything you need. The hours are great. Great classes. Nice cinema room with treadmills etc. movies need to be changed and scheduled appropriately though. Machines are plentiful and do the trick. Not the friendliest crowd. So just get in and do your thing and leave. It works out better that way anyway

I'm glad my friend Kristine J. dragged my fat lazy arse back to the gym finally. This is a small gym, but it's got everything you need. Nice and clean, fully stocked w/equipment. Lots of TVs and modern workout equipment. The ipod plugs are a nice touch.
All weight machines have instructions as well as trainer tips.
I've only used my free one week pass so far, so I'm looking forward to taking classes soon.
Staff's super friendly and helpful. I'm glad they only charge $30 a month!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Michele S.Oldsmar, FL49467May 30, 2013Updated review
I was a member at Golds for almost 10 years- last year I canceled my membership and decided I needed a change. I've tried some local gyms in the area. I can honestly very few offer what Golds offers. And, the ones that do are well over $187. a month or are missing the warm, customer friendly feeling ....
Golds is really a great place to be, and I never realized just how convenient it is .... Right next to Paramus Park, and Route 17 ...Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 20, 2011Previous reviewI've been a long-standing member of Golds Gym in Paramus now for 8 years. It's a very clean, friendly facility and they've done a lot of renovations so the equipment is new, and they have a lot of classes to offer. The owners, Mike & Art will always say hello and greet you when they cross paths with you. It's really a great gym compared to the others in our area. The only thing I do not care for are some of the trainers- I have found 2 of them cater towards the more fitter, and in-shape vs the slightly heavier who may need a little more courage and support ...I tried to schedule an appointment once for personal training, and I was called back 3x to "reschedule". By the 3rd time I said, "Forget it" ... I basically go, keep to myself, and do my thing and leave.
BTW: They offer class for kids now, so it's a great way to get your kids to focus on fitness. - Vick P.New Milford, NJ826016Jun 2, 2011
Decided to write about Gold's Gym in my Yelping mania. I've been a member here and consistently going for the last year for about 3-4 times per week.
This Gold's gym is clean with a great variety of equipment including free weights, benches, and machines for all levels of skill beginner, intermediate, and advanced. There are many available treadmills, ellipticals, cycles, and stair masters. My favorite is the cinema room that is full of cardio equipment, and they play a different movie daily on a big screen.
The staff is somewhat friendly depending on who's working that day. However, they are always helpful when you need them to be. I compare the staff with the NY Sports Club at Westwood where I previously went. At that NYSC, they would never fail to greet me, say good bye, and offer me a towel. But then again, I was paying a lot more for that kind of service.
All in all, Gold's Gym is reliable and affordable with relatively modern equipment. I have no complaints about this location.
Remember to give 45 days advance notice if you cancel your membership!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - David T.Paramus, NJ199Aug 24, 2015
I just started coming here after leaving 24hr fitness. This gym has a really good vibe to it. I forgot what it felt like to walk in and have people from workers to customers saying hello, how are you, and I know thats not important, but it makes a big difference to me. The people here just seem like a big family. The man who runs the place showed me around and didn't push me into anything, he just spoke to me man to man without trying to bs me. The gym is nice and has all the equipment you need and more. The crossfit and boxing section is a nice quality bonus. All in all, the gym is great, and Ive had a better workout here in my first week, than I did in my 3 years at other gyms.
