Terrible service tonight . . From sem-regular. Passable food. Bread has changed, onion soup lacking too.
Waited forever for server to Check on table. Got water & butter... (No Bread)!!!!! SUBMITTED to waiting for what seemed like forever for hungry people!!!! The "server" to presented herself. Oops no bread.
takes order...appitizer, clams. Good! Clams took longer than usual, no touching base from server.
No prob but, she again ignored table. Bbbbbbb.after...
Finally after sitting for 45 minutes after dinner w/no server busses cleaning table, flagged down the not to ""busy waitress.
QuicklY!!!! she presented
D the check & hovered over the x- table. I atated to waitress that thats the most that we have seen her this evening. She repies," I stopped by ...twice this evening, next time if you want a different server just request."
No CLASS. All That was expected was service!!!
T.I.P.S. , T.i.p.s.
Sorry got seated about 8:25. Left 10:45due to poor service.
Food O.k. server told us about " special" after ordering special server checks & about 15 minutes later she says...we don't have any prime rib left. Give me a break.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 15, 2023
Old school steakhouse restaurant - with an awesome Prime Rib special on Friday and Saturday nights. I was there with family - party of six overall and we were all happy with our food and the service. Recently I ordered prime rib at another restaurant - what I received at Golden Steer was about twice as much for the same price.
It's been there for 50 plus years and it shows its age inside. But the food is good and the staff did a nice job of attending to our table - even when the place was fully sat. Glad I finally gave it a try!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bepos1luv O.Spring, TX4195130Dec 23, 2023
Old school vibe with great service and food. Down to earth people & enjoyable ambience. If you get Sharon as your waitress, you struck gold.
For starters, Scallops De Jonghe was succulent. Soup, salad and bread was fresh and filling. Entree, Ribeye was tasty and good and Steercheeseburger was juicy and delicious.
Cosmos on point.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Miles C.Chicago, IL02Mar 8, 2024
I was really surprised tonight. When I saw that Golden Steer was the highest rated steakhouse near me at a 3.8/5 here on yelp- I figured something had to be off. Maybe this place had been judged unfairly.
The reality is, every single piece of food my fiancé and I touched at dinner tonight was truly disappointing. The table bread was cold and stale, the clam chowder and French onion soup we were served were clearly reheated and hadn't been made anytime recently. The salad was a complete afterthought and might as well not have been a component of the dinner.
My medium rare ribeye not only came out not only so bloody that it couldn't have been on the grill for longer than two minutes, but half of the 16oz steak was fat and gristle. The peppercorn on top just didn't move the needle, and it was lacking in flavor throughout. My fiancés pork ribs were decent, and our waitress was very kind and apologetic. Without her, this is a 1/5.
I'm 3 years sober, and after my Diet Coke came out with tonic water mixed in, I thought I'd been spiked- and had to go to the restroom to relieve myself before I knew for sure that I'd accidentally relapsed through another's mistake.
I spent $150 tonight to experience this. Brutal Friday night. We will not be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda M.Bethany, IL1541Feb 8, 2024
My daughter and I ate here after finding and purchasing a prom dress at Peaches Boutique. We had friendly, quick service and our food was excellent. My personal favorite was the French onion soup and my daughter was surprised how great her fresh cut French fries tasted. Steaks were cooked to order (medium rare) which I'm frequently disappointed in when eating out. Wish we would have saved room for dessert but I guess we can try the chocolate mousse if we happen to return.

Went here and was pleasantly surprised. The food was so good! Definitely old school in ambiance. Also old school as in you get soup
And salad with your entree. Chose the soup of the day cream of broccoli. Absolutely delicious. Friend had French onion and said it was awesome. Salad is good size. Got the blue cheese dressing with lots of blue cheese on the salad too. Chicken Kiev was one of the specials. Came with rice pilaf, gravy and carrots. I didn't get it but it looked so good. I got the open face filet sandwich and baked potato. It was very good. Will definitely be back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eric B.Champaign, IL90207187Mar 24, 2023
Loved the golden steer, will definitely be back! Excellent mushroom soup (was supposed to get baked french onion but passed this time), delicious bread and salad and excellent Porterhouse steak on special.
I'll be back to this old school steakhouse!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Greg K.Forest Park, IL13491Dec 3, 2023
Been wanting to try this place for many years and last night we went. I have to say this is a 5 Star Place! Much better experience than Gibsons or even Ruth Chris. There are you get a lot of pretentiousness and flash. This place is like an old supper club from the 1950s. And it's preserved. Great steaks, kid friendly, down to earth people! Prices are affordable. This is a hidden gym and will we will be coming back!

Golden Steer never disappoints. The food is always delicious. It is just as good if not better than city steakhouses without the downtown prices. My husband and I have been coming here for years and the quality and service is just as great as ever. Congratulations to Elba for keeping things great if not better than ever! Brought a group of 7 in last week and every single person at the table was beyond impressed. We had fish, steak, lamb chops and more. All were fabulous!

An absolute gem of a place. You'll feel like you stepped back into a 60's supper club, the vibe is the same with wood paneling, rustic decor, and a bustling crowd.
The waitresses are friendly, the drinks cheap, and the food fantastic. Everything from chicken to steak is delicious - make sure you try the French Onion soup.
Everything comes out at a fast clip, but you'll still need reservations on a Friday or Saturday night.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
