Golden Krust Caribbean

Glad I didn't check the reviews before trying this fast food restaurant...the food was good...for a fast food chain!
I was craving Caribbean food on a budget since my fave place in the area will never produce a tab less than $20 and remembered hearing of this place years ago.
I'll always expect my jerk chicken to be saucy like it was when I visited Jamaica so one squeeze is not enough! As you see I asked for "proper" sauce and he wanted to charge me for it. Still, it, with the rice & pea cabbage was surprisingly good...mind you I eat my veggies & rice at home a bit bland so if you require big flavor on every item you'll feel there's some lack with the rice bean cabbage...I was fine as the jerk sauce is good and altogether in a bite it feels healthy and tasty!
The staff all seem rooted from Jamaica judging by the thick accents and English barrier. They weren't smiley people but they give you your order, take your money, and do it fast so it's efficient I suppose lol.
I liked that they had soccer on the screen...nice to watch while briefly waiting.
Now, I'll go read the bad reviews to uncover what the fuss is all about!
Will I return eh maybe not...neutral.

Dropped in at the Golden Krust in Jersey City for the first time around noon on a weekday. There was a little moving line when I stopped by.

For lunch, I grabbed coco bread and Jamaican beef patty with cheese inside. Of course, it was good! They had multiple patty options to choose from. For dinner later, I ordered the escovitch fried snapper w/ mac and cheese and festival. The snapper was pretty good and the mac & cheese was okay. The festival tasted more like a long fried dumpling, but was okay too. Also, had DG cream soda!

The food was decent and I would go back.

The food here is great at a reasonable price. The service is fast and excellent and Dayton helped me out. I highly recommend

Food:

- Braised Oxtail: I love oxtail when it's fall off the bone tender. For me, this was a bit of a miss because there were too many small pieces with not a lot of meat, which made it difficult to eat. The pieces that did have more meat on it were unfortunately not that tender.The rice and steamed veggies seemed underseasoned to me, but the plantains were not bad

- Mac and Cheese: wouldn't order this again as the pasta was overcooked, and the cheese tasted synthetic

- Carrot Cake: surprisingly pretty good albeit on the sweet side

- Sea Moss Drink (didn't see this on their regular website, but when we ordered through a third party delivery service it was there): I have never had this before, but I took one sip and couldn't stomach it

Overall: I'm glad I didn't pay for this meal

It was not good. I was very disappointed. Even the patty doesn't taste the same. The rice was decent but oxtail ( I make better at home) too much browning. The jerk chicken I have no words for. Just awful.

As a Jamaican, who just moved to Bayonne from New York, finding authentic and delicious Jamaican food has been a struggle for me. I was craving ackee and salt fish and decided to give his Golden Krust a try, and I am blown away! For starters, when I called the establishment to inquire about their menu options in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised that they were pleasant on the phone, because most Jamaicans aren't lol, and they had a wide variety of breakfast foods still available, this was the first green flag for me. Upon ordering and receiving the food, I was also surprised that they did not skimp on their quantity, typically, when you order ackee and salt fish, the ratio is off, you either have too much saltfish and not enough ackee or the ackee and selfish does not taste good and is not properly seasoned. However, this establishment's ackee and salt fish is the closest to authentic that I have had in a very long time. Their food was delicious! The fried dumplings were really good and not too oily, the entire food was not too oily, and they served really great quantities, and the food tasted fresh. Not only that, I ordered their cornmeal porridge, and it was the best I've had since having cornmeal porridge from my father-in-law, it was creamy, it was light, and it was perfectly sweet, not overly done. All in all, if you are looking for an authentic Jamaican taste, I would absolutely recommend this Golden Krust.

food is good. servings are getting smaller and smaller. small jerk chicken plate is 13$. comes with 1/4 chicken...2 piece. will not be going back. their attitude is som bad there that I won't go back just because of that. the need better customer service and larger portions.

I've gotten chicken and goat curry combos via Uber Eats. I don't remember what I got in person circa 2018 but I'm sure it was a combo. The chicken itself was less notable than the sauce. The cabbage, not usually the most attention-grabbing part of such combos, was exemplary, containing one or more secret ingredients.

Can I tell you that the rice was undercooked. How the eff do you not know how to prepare WHITE RICE? I didn't get the peas and rice because its been hard a few times so I figured white rice would be a safe bet. Well I was so wrong straight trash....

I ordered barbecue chicken with peas and rice and sweet plantains. The chicken was old not fresh and put the sauce on to cover it up. I was truly disappointed had ordered thru a food delivery service too. Never again. I do not order very often but had my mouth ready for some good BBQ chicken only to be let down. I hope they do better withvthisvone
