How is wheelchair accessibility? Taking my parents for dinner and need to know ahead of time...TIA
A:
It is in place but kind of oddly done. You have to go around the restaurant to the right side to gain wheelchair access the exact opposite side from the main entrance.

Order the squid ink pasta with the scallops slightly seared. Request a lemon slice and red pepper flakes on the side.

Dear Rosie, thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I hope you give us another chance to woo you with the scallops and top off the wine. So sorry you were not satisfied with those items. Our ice cream is from The Latest Scoop, Small Batch Ice Cream maker in Oakland. It is yummy. Hope to see you again soon.
Thanks,
MelanieJan 14, 2022Previous reviewWe were getting automobile work done next door, and decided to try Gianni's since they share a parking lot.
The wait staff was very friendly. I started with an order of the 2018 Super Tuscan which was surly smooth and mild for the blend that I imagined. For $15 per glass, I wouldn't mind getting a glass next time.
I started off with a bowl of squid ink noodles. I really loved the lemony sauce with pops of fresh basil. The noodles were cooked perfectly Al dente. The only thing that I didn't like in the meal was the protein which was over cooked, hard and rubbery nubs of scallops.
The kids pasta was great for my daughter because it came with a choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. She was in LOVE with the vanilla ice cream because of the flavor. We will try this again. - 80206760Apr 2, 2024Updated review
Updating my review for this place after coming back for their tips for change for the Danville community band.
First off, compared to my last two experiences that were takeout, their in person experience has been better in comparison.
Their bread is not much to write about. Pretty cold and chewy. Wish it was warmed up a bit or something.
That said, their lemonade is pretty solid. I think it's fresh? Not certain, but it definitely tastes different than your usual Minute Maid lemonade. The orange Italian soda was a bit disappointing as it was just San Pellegrino. (Though their menu doesn't label it as that.) I'd suggest just labeling it as San Pelligrino than "Orange Italian Soda".
Entree wise, my fiance got the maccheroni which when I tried it was pretty good. Vastly different and much better in taste than their ravioli, gnocchi, or linguine and clams (which was gone from the menu). I ordered the Stracotto (slow cooked short rib) and it was pretty delicious. Could possibly do with less sauce but the beef was good as well as zucchini and potatoes.
The star of the night however was their budino alle nocciole (chocolate hazelnut pudding). It's not your normal pudding but it was so good. It was warm and delicious and their sauces off to the side were also really good with their ice cream. This dessert is definitely a keeper.
So I suppose I'll look forward to retuning at the next Tips for Change event with the Danville Community Band.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Cynthia,
Thank you for your honest feedback. It was a pleasure hosting the fundraiser for Danville Community Band - we appreciate you for supporting us by ordering a carryout. We're sorry to hear that your food was just alright. We will be reviewing this with our kitchen to ensure all meals are being prepared properly and tasting as delicious as what we are known for. We hope you'll visit us again!Jul 28, 2020Previous reviewCame here to pick up some take out due to a donation event they were having for the Danville Community Band I'm in and while the fundraiser is appreciated. The food...eh...is alright?
For my order, I ordered the linguine with white sauce (+clams) and a dessert order of tiramisu. The pasta itself is pretty bland and not much taste to it. Like I can taste the wine sauce and obviously the clam taste from the clams (which, those, were spectacular). But the pasta is so drowned by the taste of chili peppers that you can't taste much else. I could taste more of the sauce with the bread than I could with the pasta. (Even though the bread was a bit on the hard side). TLDR: Pasta is about 3.5/5, Bread is about 3/5.
As for the tiramisu, when you first smell it, the liquor used seems a tad strong. However once eating the actual cake, the creamy layer actually balances it out quite well. Again, not the best I've had but it's actually pretty decent. 4/5 for that.
Probably will come again just for the tips for change donation even but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it. - Feb 22, 2024
We stopped in on a Monday for dinner. Apparently they host a charity each Monday with volunteer servers donating their tips and 10% of the bill to support a cause. A noble action by the owners to support the community.
They serve a limited menu, but had what I wanted - pappardelle with pork ragout. Aldente pasta and a rich flavor on the sauce. I devoured the bowl. The portion seemed small, but was just enough.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Business owner information

The hubby surprised me with a dinner here and I immediately fell in love with this place!
We had the gnocchi and the Caesar salad for starters. They were both delicious! The gnocchi had a creamy white sauce that was just to die for and the Caesar salad was perfect! It even had a Parmesan crisp that I wish I had more of.
For our main course we had the chicken and the salmon, to me the salmon was superb. The chicken was okay. The servings were a good size and we finished both of our meals.
For dessert we had the pana cotta and the strawberry tiramisu. The pana cotta was the winner, so creamy, light, and the sweetness was well balanced. The strawberry tiramisu had plenty of whipped cream/icing but the flavor was nothing special.
Service was good and fast. They kept checking on us. Would really like to come back and try their other dishes!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Dining at Giannis!
We came here for dinner after attending an event in San Ramon. My first time dining at this place. My first impression is the place is cozy, dark, small but with relax atmosphere! We had a reservation so it was easy for us to get seated.
I ordered the salmon special, but the rest of the party ordered pastas. The salmon was perfectly cooked and tender. It was seasoned just right and not fishy at all. As for the rest of the party. I didn't hear any complaints about their meals
The service was fantastic. Our waiter was very funny and attentive. Overall, it was a good dinning experience at the Giannis. I will certainly return again if I'm in the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Wow!! A fantastic NYE dinner with friends. Never been before and was blown away by the food, the service and the overall great vibe of this place!
Unpretentious and definitely focused on delivering a great dining experience
We started with a pre-dinner cocktail made of pomegranate and gin. Wonderful.
Fixe Price menu: Next came apps of Burrata and bruchectia.
Main was a fantastic seafood stew like cioppino. Wonderful.
Followed by a killer take on tiramisu made with pineapple, coconut and macadamia nuts.
Incredible!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Really cute old school family run restaurant. The parking was a little challenging since it's next to a lot that deals with cars.
The restaurant is really small and narrow they placed us all the way back and we had to squeeze our way through tables.
The waitress was nice. They have a simple menu. I ordered the gnocchi with truffle fontina sauce because I don't normally order this as it can be really dense however the ones here are fluffy clouds and the sauce was cheesy but not overwhelming. A nice touch of truffle oil.
The lasagna was good too the top nice and toasty. The octopus appetizer was also really good however the portion felt very very small for the price :(
Overall it was a good experience and we would come back to try the other dishes. Love supporting family run businesses! You can tell the locals eat here. Lots of older folks lolHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Giannis is surprising. Even after coming here for years, it is just our favorite restaurant. It feels like family here, family that came from Italy and cooks spectacular food.
We always start out with the gnocchi for the table to share. It is so delicious! You can tell they were just made, the are fluffy and light pillows of heaven with a decadent truffle cheesy sauce.
Many times we stick with the macaroni here, this is truly special. Tonight we ventured to the veal and short ribs. These were stunning in presentation and delivery! Sitting at home tonight we are still talking out this food.
Don't miss the Panna cotta or their new hazelnut desert with a side of Gelato. Wonderful!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Jul 31, 2014Previous reviewOnce again a great meal. My wife's birthday ant it was a real treat. We all around after dinner trying to figure out who had the best meal. We all way a get gnocchi for a table appetiser the best ever. Service is great.
Aug 16, 2013Previous reviewBest west coast Italian food I've had. I'm from Chicago and New York where we got really great Italian food that we have not had great luck on the west coast. This place has really great food! Try the Gnocchi, with truffle sauce it is sublime. We had a shrimp with red sauce that was a bit spicy and really good. The other order was an ahi tuna with an olive and onion topping that was outstanding! We walked in without a reservation at 7:30 pm on a Thursday night and waited about 10 minutes for the table. It was a bit loud with a large party, but the food and service was so good that it didn't matter at all. I thought the service was great. The waiter was from Italy and had a passion for the food. I wished I had asked his opinion before ordering as he had other favorites. The bread and olive oil at the table were great. The owner was busy but took the time to talk with us. Great for a night out. I'll have my next event here as well.

The food is excellent, as are the drinks. I had the salmon which was perfectly prepared. My friends all enjoyed their dishes as well. I am so impressed that they are engaged with a community and do fundraisers every Monday night. parking is tight, you may have to park in the lot next-door. I am generally not a fan of Italian food, and I would definitely come back here.
