Sweatpants!!!
Why is the entire staff wearing sweatpants?
It's inappropriate and it's lazy, please put on actual clothes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ava B.Columbus, GA036Mar 16, 2024
First review....
Amazing food. I got the chicken katsu and it was crispy, fresh, and all around delicious. I also had their green tea mochi ice cream. I am a big fan of their dessert. That is my go to and will still continue to be my go to.
One last thing, there is a man that works there and I don't know how old he is but I am using yelp to try to find him. He has a sleeve of tattoos and one tattoo is behind his ear going down his neck. I have red hair and tattoos and I was sitting at the bar. If you are reading this, hi, I find you very attractive and would like your number, but if you are taken then just take this as a compliment. Thank you and yeah this place is amazing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 15, 20241 check-in
I heard a lot about the happy hour here, prior to ever being in Houston so def added it to my list of visits on my quick tour. Its a small, casual restaurant and filled up quickly.
Happy hour has BOGO of various appetizers along with beers and wine. We ordered a few items including dynamite roll, spicy salmon, fried squid, vegetable tempura, agedashi tofu, and edamame. Staff was all friendly and food came out quick (I'm sure they want high turn around given the popularity of the happy hour). All the food was great for the price, its nothing super special but for ~$25 for 2 people coming out full, its a great deal!
I'll have to come back to try the regular menu as well since it all seemed very affordable regardless. So far, I can say the HH was a great deal, just be prepared to wait if you're coming at 5 or later!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 12, 2024
Cool spot with great happy hour!
Parking is limited in front but there is parking next to the restaurant.
We arrived on a Thursday after 5pm, it was two of us and had about a 15 minute wait.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and checked on us regularly throughout our dine in.
They have a vast happy hour menu with buy one get one free appetizers among a ton of other sushi options.
Pork egg rolls & miso soup were delicious.
Fries were bland and not anything outstanding.
Enjoyed the spicy salmon rolls.
Depending the time pack your patience because it is an intimate small space, and does get busy and crowded for happy hour and for good reason.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - 208002596Apr 9, 2024Updated review
Go during happy hour to maximize your experience. It's a small dining area so there may be a wait. But it's definitely worth it.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 16, 2022Previous reviewWe went for their happy hour. At 3 pm on a Friday there was a 30 minute wait for a table of 3. I noticed that the dishes were old and worn with the paint decorations coming off pretty badly. Also the napkins had a lot of white lint on it. I guess one of the servers noticed me taking a photo of the worn dishes and offered me a replacement which was nice. The miso soup / salad combo (ginger dressing) was pretty good as was the Kani Sunomono. It looked like imitation crab sticks but tasted better so maybe it's real crab? My palate ain't that refined. But I liked it. I didn't see the pork spring rolls on the menu so I got that. 3 per order and it was crunchy and fresh. Same with the goyza. I also liked the fried squid. But the sushi was just ok. We had like 4 orders, but they only gave us a dab of wasabi which wasn't enough for that many pieces. The large hot sake was too much for us to finish. Servers were very nice. Looked like they had a lot of regulars. Bar area has seating so maybe you could sit there if you wanted to dine quicker. Not sure.

What's your goal?
Delicious sushi - wrong place
Ok food for a good price- this is the place.
I was very excited to try this place due to the consistent long line and high reviews, but it was a let down for me. The restaurant is pretty small in the inside which explains the lines. The service was not as attentive as I would've liked based on restaurant size and the amount of patrons at the time.
The food was very regular. They have a great but one get one free hh, but everything I had was comparable to Chinese buffet. The food wasn't bad, I just expected more. If I was at a different level in my sushi pallet I might feel differentHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 57110159Apr 7, 2024
The location is very small with limited tables. We arrived (table of 2) at 6:30 and didn't get a table until about 7:45. We put our name in with our phone number, and went to nearby stores to kill time. Thank goodness we did! Anyway, the wait was worth it. 1 coke, edamame, the Philadelphia roll, and half of the shaggy dog roll was $16 in total for me (before tip). Food was great for such a low price.

Checked out their happy hour since we're in the area and we're fortunate to not have any wait at 3:30pm on a weekday. Still had to park in the lot next to the restaurant though as their main spaces are very limited. We were seated immediately, but that was about the last of the service for our visit. Although there seemed to be plenty of staff standing around, it took 30 minutes to take our order and about that long to get our check. The food itself didn't take too long. Maybe they were going through some things.
The happy hour menu is reasonable - the prices really can't be beat. But the quality of the food reflects it. You won't leave hungry but it probably isn't as satisfying. What little fish I did get seemed fresh anyway but portions just seemed a lot smaller. And without much flair. Everything else wasn't really memorable enough, so come expecting you are just filling your appetite.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 30, 2024
Arrived at Oishii around 8 PM on a Friday so my first recommendation is to not arrive at this particular time- the wait was 1 hour and 45 minutes. We probably would've gone elsewhere if didn't have this thought 1 hour into waiting for our table.
We were able to place our orders before getting seated, so they could start working on our orders which saved time. Although it still took 15 minutes to get out our sushi order after we were seated.
Overall, it's good value. The beef don was surprisingly large for the $8.50. The sushi pieces were around $1.50-2.50 aside from Toro, Otoro, chutoro, uni. It's not the freshest sushi and the rice is too mushy/sticky. But it will satisfy your craving for sushi for a low price.
The parking is pretty limited.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 49426541Mar 22, 2024Updated review
Finally revisited and got their sashimi. I should probably factor in the price but found the sashimi hard to swallow. The fish quality is not the best (my prior review, I did not have a lot of experience with fresh sashimi) which makes sense given the price but I'd prefer smaller portions w better fish quality.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Mar 26, 2022Previous reviewI finally returned on a Saturday during lunch time and it happened to be their lunch special period. I got their 9 piece sashimi ($9) lunch specials which was a really good deal given how big the pieces were. The seared pieces were definitely the best. We also got the agedashu tofu ($4) and the curry don lunch special ($7). The curry don portion was also amazing with lots of beef - I do wish it was more flavorful and had more sauce. Each lunch special came with side of miso soup or salad - definitely recommend the salad with ginger dressing! Overall, their lunch specials are great for someone on a budget who's looking for quality fish.
Jul 31, 2021Previous reviewI've been wanting to try this place for a very long time and it mostly didn't disappoint. I came at 3 pm for their happy hour (3-7 pm on everyday but Saturday, 3-6 pm Saturday). Happy hour menu is in the pictures.
The wait was 30 minutes (might be longer if you come later), and they can text you when a table is ready. The parking lot next to Oishii had enough spots.
Service was great- while it took awhile for someone to take our order, our food and check came out very quickly! Staff was also very nice. With the delta variant on the rise, I must say this dining area is not COVID safe- you can definitely be very close to people.
Food:
Appetizers ($2 after BOGO free):
-Ika Tempura - 4/5 - came with 6 pieces and a sweet/sour dipping sauce- I really enjoyed how perfectly crunchy and light the outside was! Squid is not super super high quality but I still really enjoyed it! (Is it weird I like a little chew to my squid?)
-Kana Sunomono - 1/5 - did not enjoy this at all, it is literally pieces of imitation crab and pieces of cucumber- serving is TINY and the flavor is nonexistent. Also wasn't a fan of their imitation crab
-Spicy Salmon Roll - 3.5/5 - comes with 6 pieces and it's okay, nothing special, but for the price, I'm super impressed
-Agedashi Tofu - 5/5 - must try this appetizer! Came with 6 pieces - the tofu is so light and airy and perfectly fried on the outside. I loved how the tofu and fish flakes dissolved on the tongue
-Baked Mussel (not BOGO, $5.50)- 3.5/5 - wouldn't reorder but it wasn't bad! I do wish it was baked more because it was a texture I didn't expect- it was in little pieces and kind of runny, but could be from the sauce they added. Presentation was great.
Sashimi:
Hana Nokoyi - 5/5 - LOVED! I think their salmon sashimi is very good, very buttery and fresh. Loved the presentation and price. Highly recommend.
Rolls:
JD Hand Roll $5 - 2.5/5 - I wanted to try the chopped scallop and saw this had it but honestly wasn't very impressed. There didn't seem to be a lot of scallop or tako in there and everything was blended to mush in the roll. It also was very small.
Snow White Maki $6 - 3/5 - I wasn't super impressed with this either, there was more cream cheese than I would like. Portion size wasn't terrible though.
I do want to return and try more appetizers and sashimi/nigiri. The price is incredible!! However, I'd probably stay away from the rolls because they weren't very remarkable to me.
