So happy we stumbled upon this place! Great Gelato flavors, very small but it was only us so we had plenty of space!
I tried the Olive Oil, Ferrero Roche, Fig, and honey and lavender flavor. They were all amazing but olive oil won the gold!
My friend and I shared a small and it was plenty, but the best of all was that the employee brought us 3 Italian sodas! So good! And best of all they were on the house!!
Good coffee too, they serve Verve Coffee which was my first time trying it and I was very pleased! They also sell pastries at great prices. You know those cake pops? 99 cents here. They cost a pretty penny at other competitors. Will definitely be back when we are in the area again.
Guess a drawback would be that the surrounding area doesn't have much. So just come for the coffee and Gelato and you are good to go!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aug 28, 2015
I've tried a couple of flavors here.
Pistachio was great. Nothing to shout about, but good.
Salted Caramel was a tad too salty / savory for me, but some people might like that.
Hazelnut was my favorite so far.
Cookies & Cream tasted a little gingery. Odd, I know, but I couldn't shake it off.
Parking is metered on the street, and the residential street have ones without meter.
It sometimes says Cash Only, but the couple of times I've been there, they've always accepted my card using Square on their iPad.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 7, 2015
I happened to be in the area and was on my way to Jeni's ice cream, when I stepped into Gelato Bar, and found out that Jeni's was closed.
However, never fear, because Gelato Bar has some tasty fresh gelato. :) The person at the counter informed me that this place was family run, had closed 2-3 months ago to renovate, and now they're back in business! They've been open for at least 8 years now in the Los Feliz area.
I really enjoyed the strawberry chocolate chip flavor. Small size is $4.95, pretty hefty price tag though.
There's 1 FREE parking spot right out front. :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 20, 2016
I knew Gelato Bar was in trouble when Jeni's opened up the street. I walk up and down Hillhurst pretty often and always saw Jeni's packed and Gelato Bar more or less empty. I'm sorry the place is gone, but I didn't do my part to keep it open. Always meant to Yelp it after the next trip, but only made it inside a couple of times over the years.
The place was cute and cozy, with a charming ice cream parlor interior and a pleasant sidewalk patio. Service was good, and it was easy to sample. I liked that you could get multiple flavors in even the smaller portions.
The gelato was great, with solid texture and a lot of nice rotating flavors. I particularly liked the Greek yogurt with strawberry and the rich, smooth olive oil. Greek yogurt with honey was also lovely, tart and sweet, and I liked the pumpkin, which was assertively spicy. The creamy cantaloupe was nice for a light fruity scoop, and the spiced chocolate had a creeping heat. Not everything I sampled was perfect--lemon sorbet was kind of icy, a blueberry yogurt tasted just a bit too much like Yoplait. Lemon basil was too tart and savory to eat in a scoop, though it was pretty interesting. The salted caramel, hallmark of this entire genre of fancy gelato shops, was too sweet.
I feel bad for ignoring Gelato Bar on so many walks along Hillhurst. It may not have been on the same level as Jeni's, but it was a solid spot and Hillhurst is a little less charming without it.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Melanie D.Los Angeles, CA22510641725Oct 22, 2015
This is a tiny, little gelato shop in the Los Feliz area. Staff is friendly and are on stand by with lots of tasting spoons for you to try different flavors.
The coconut was full of flavor and had nice chunks of coconut. The honey lavender was too mild. The mascarpone was too sweet. I would have liked their gelato to be more smooth and creamy.
Pricing is as follows:
$4.95 for 2 scoops
$5.95 for 3 scoops
$6.95 for 4 scoops

Good, but not the best gelato and the prices are generally very high here.
Portions on the gelato are small, one was tiny at just under $5 and I thought too soft and watery for my taste, order two scoops and sample first to make sure you like it, I didn't enjoy the first two I tried at all.
The coffee was good, but again pricey, and $3 for a small can of San Pellegrino crazy as well.
The quality is there, but my coffee was also pretty watery and lacking flavor.
Ok, but not worth rushing back to.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jun 5, 2010
Great little gelato place to check out!!
I really think this place is tooooo cute!!! The people are friendly and willing to help you! I love the way they make their organic coffee. I came in here to use my groupon which they said I could since the one in Studio city was to far from me. They were very nice to call and check. So I ordered the Gelato for my lil girl and a gentleman helped me out with that. So very helpful. And I ordered the coffee which I did not know which one to get so I had to ask and they refered me to try the one they liked. (darn I wish i remember the name i'm thinking something africa blend.. lol) So there was a newbie learning the coffee maker she did a great job and see the gentleman assisted on that also he is everywhere!!
Yippie for this place opening up 2 day after I went!! New owners.. Great job guys!!
So if you want a great gelato come on thru and also don't forget to try the cool coffee. Slow drip but well worth the wait!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2011
The gelatos here are pretty decent. I'm more of an ice cream person but why not walk down Hillhurst and try out some gelato from time to time.
The Gelato Bar on Hillhurst runs a pretty nice little shop. They sell gelatos and also loads of different coffees. They also sell the old school Italian candies and mints in the tins...just like how mama and papa use to buy them for us years ago in old Sicily!!! LOL! Not really.
Friendly staff, good gelatos, parking can be a hassle on Hillhurst.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Celine L.Los Angeles, CA33399714897Apr 23, 2015
Stopped by for some dessert after getting Alcove Bakery right across the street. Cute mom and pop shop that offers gelatos and caffeine drinks.
I got the ferrero rocher and the stracciatella. The ferrero rocher tasted just like the chocolate itself but gelato form. It was creamy with a nice flavor of chocolate and hazelnut. So good. The stracciatella gelato had really high quality chocolate chips, basically like fudge, and it had a great contrast between the chocolate chips and the creamy gelato. My friend got the hazelnut which had a bold nutty hazelnut taste. I like how they add a little crisp on top!
The gelato was the perfect finish to my meal, and the flavors are definitely more on the bold side. Great place to stop by after lunch!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 22, 2014
I came here to try to refresh my taste buds out of a funk they were feeling after a not-too-great Greek lunch nearby.
The pistachio was brown, not green as pistachio gelatos usually are, and I wasn't going to choose it, but my mom overruled me. She was apologetic, but not for long, as we were soon digging with gusto into the most thick-packed, dense pistachio forest of flavor we'd (or at least I'd) ever experienced. It was like diving into a lake of pistachio.
I wasn't wild about the flavor choices overall - it sure had a lot of fruit sorbet for being named the 'Gelato Bar' - but really it didn't matter, since none of the rest of them were in my mouth at the moment.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
