If you're on a budget and going for more than 2 lbs of poke I highly recommend Food Land! I honestly think food lands poke is better than a lot of poke spots! Everything tasted so fresh we even got to try samples of everything before we decided on what we liked! I can understand why all the locals would come here. Cook your own rice at home and come here for the poke!
It's $11.99/lb but if you get more than 2 lbs it's $9.99/lbHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 22, 2024
Went to get a poke bowl at our favorite foodland on the island after our fast, Kahea was there to make our order. My husband ordered a poke bowl and I stepped away for a sec to look at the front of the poke station since there were so many options. We go here all the time and have great experiences with all the workers. But today I guess Kahea was having a bad day and wanted to take it out on someone, my husband got his poke bowl and Kahea asked if there was anything else we wanted. I tried to order some crab poke and he cut me off and asked my husband again if there was anything else, I said "yes the crab" and once again was cut off. My husband responded yes my wife is trying to order we're together. And Kahea said I'm asking you if your order is done to my husband, being confused we said no WE want to order more. Kahea was not able to contemplate that we were together and I guess wanted us to order as separate people. So I said okay he's done, Kahea asked me what I wanted to order and when I said crab again he cut me off and started to talk to my husband again (my husband didn't say anything but was understandably upset) this caused them to have a small argument and Kahea just said the same thing. Kahea tried to pull the "have aloha" on us when he was the one arguing with a customer for no reason. My husband just repeated saying we're together so no the order was not complete (maybe Kahea wanted my husband to order the crab, who knows). Kahea even asked if we needed to be escorted out. Like what? Just because we wanted to order together? We've been coming here for over 20 years and never was told we needed to order as separate parties. We ended up not taking the poke and spoke with the manager who apologized on his behalf but kept saying "everyone orders poke bowls it's not hard I'm not sure why he did that". Basically didn't help with anything.
We both work with a lot of people around the island and tourists and always recommend foodland but this foodland location specifically (no matter how far the drive) because we always have good experience and the flavor is on point. That's definitely going to change.
Unfortunately we came on the wrong day and got disrespected just because we tried to order together. It just leaves a sour taste and sucks that we won't be returning. Ala Moana has better fresh poke anyways so it's not too bad.
Good thing there's other food options here at Market City.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 15, 2024Updated review
Not all Foodlands are created equal.
In recent years, they opened a new format, Foodland Farms, that caters to a different demographic.
My friends have been shopping here since we started visiting the island annually in 1992. Things haven't changed much but the store remains well maintained with a good selection of grocery items both mainstream and local. The item that my friends enjoy the most are their local cooked foods (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jrZTCre_NQ-lZPjg6BvcPQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) and poke/seafood sections (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4LndFzjk18033kg1k2RIOw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); as you can see, their selection is pretty extensive (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iN_hOjEQjrMx4ZokJCJszQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q).
During this visit, we mainly bought drinks for our room and each got a slice of the guava chiffon cake (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=pEOrEHiDFBQY_RsDlo4k5g&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I was a bit disappointed with the guava cake as there was little if any guava flavor. My favorite was probably from one of the bakeries in the nowcl gone Shirokiya Dept. Store.
We will continue to shop at this store on future trips. Don't forget to get a Kama'aina account and, better yet, a senior's account if you qualify to enjoy an additional discount. Next time, if I hadn't eaten a meal before coming, I'll likely rekindle more food memories by getting a plate from Gina's a few doors down.Helpful 8Thanks 4Love this 11Oh no 0Feb 12, 2009Previous reviewAfter arriving and knowing that my hotel room had a refrigerator, I figured to pick up some things for the week (water, juices, soda, snacks, etc.). Being slightly hungry, the spam musubi under the heating lamp seemed like a great solution. My friend also asked me to pick up a can of Kona Coast Macadamia Pancake & Waffle Mix which I found for $9.00 per 24 oz. can. I grabbed a six pack of water and saw the selection of Aloha Maid and other local drinks. When I reached the refrigerated section, I noticed some new flavors with missing individual cans removed from their six packs so I figured that this would be a way to sample them. When I reached the cashier, he rang up my items EXCEPT for the sodas, stating that they only sell them by the six-pack. I explained that I am a visitor for one week and his reply was, "I'd have to charge you over $1.00 per can if I sold it this way." Wait a second... do you or do you not sell them by individual cans??? I didn't want to argue and get my vacation off to an auspicious start. The kicker was, later in the week, I went to Long's at Ala Moana and purchased the same pancake mix for $5.00 per can. Obviously, it was MY big mistake to shop here before going to the hotel.

This oldie is still a goodie...
Foodland has been here in Market City since forever and has here for us with so many milestones. Though many has gone though renovations to the Foodland Farms and what not I do remember this location going through the renovations adding Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and though how fancy that was.
Yes its one of the older ones and smaller ones but is still much loved in this part of the community as it's the place to get your poke fix, Kara-oke bowls and various other items including some local faves I was delighted to find like 'Ulu Chips that I was searching for on the last day of my bestie's mom visit finding out she loved 'Ulu I had to find some chips for her to only be disappointed at other locations.
Forget your eco bags...they probably have the best and most fun prints here which I really do love, the staff here is so friendly and helpful with questions that I had and yes parking can be an issue but there are lots of stall and I usually take the first one I find so that the search doesn't have to be so painful especially when you're craving salt and vinegar wings lol!
Thank you!Helpful 13Thanks 1Love this 12Oh no 1 - Oct 27, 2023
If you want some melt in your mouth, buttery soft, fresh poke. You must come here. Don't go to the Foodland at Ala Moana because they will charge you an arm and a leg and your first born child for a cup of their poke. I busted out almost $18 for a small container of salmon poke at their AM location.
When I stopped by at this location, I went over to the poke display box and the guy who was helping me was very nice. He offered my mom and I samples of poke to try. There were about 6-7 types at the time in a weekday afternoon. I requested for the spicy salmon and ahi tuna and I asked the guy helping me to gingerly scoop the poke into the small container because I was worried I was going to splurge again on their fish. Once I was satisfied with the amount, the container was weighted and he slapped a sticker on it. Both containers were under $16! And I got a good amount, too! The fish was nicely cubed, chunky and oh so ono with warm rice. I got a little fancy and scooped some onto my ono giant shrimp chips and wow my gosh. Twas life changing. It was the best, memorable poke I've had!
I mainly came for their poke but browsed around if see what else they offered. The supermarket was clean and not as busy as their AM location. They have baked goods, some hot food, fresh produce and much more typical grocery store stuff. We did have a hard time finding their ice cream and the variety is pretty limited and expensive. Go elsewhere for ice cream, but get their poke. You won't regrets because it's reasonably priced and nom-worthy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jan 23, 2024
I heard that the poke at Foodland is a must-try in Oahu. There are tons of cool food options in the store and I wish we could have tried more. I ended up sharing a poke bowl, spam musubi, and a lilikoi creme brûlée. We were able to try a couple samples of the poke before deciding and went with the spicy Mayo ahi and the spicy Hawaiian style. I thought the poke was very good, although a little more expensive than I was expecting for grocery store poke ($22/bowl). The spam musubi was good and the lilikoi creme brûlée was a little too sweet for me. We also got an assortment of fresh fruit and brought it back to our Airbnb.

Here for groceries & the poke! This location was closer to where we stayed but after visiting a few more Foodlands around the area, this was one of the smaller ones.
There was a line for poke as expected. The options are endless. Different marinades & flavors. Can get it by weight or in a bowl with toppings. $10-12 for the bowls. The spicy ahi poke & the shoyu ones were good. Everyone says you can't go wrong with any poke here!
More to highlight is the pastry & baked goods section. I tried the Ubae crinkle cookies here. I made my way to their main bakery the next day. We also got some of the butter mochis.
Great place to go and stock up on some essentials. Water bottles & snacks. Service was good. Shares the parking lot with a lot of other small restaurants and businesses so it does get tricky with parking.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 2049454118Nov 29, 2023
This is my favorite grocery store in Honolulu. You can expect to wait in line for their freshly made poke. We love their fresh fish, especially ono. Much of the merchandise is locally sourced. You can find anything there including your morning masubi, poi and Hawaiian Mac salad. The vegetables and fruit are fresh. Things can be a bit pricey.
They also carry a selection of locally sourced gifts and cards.
The parking lot is a bear to maneuver and find a spot. So get there early. And don't forget to bring your bags.Helpful 9Thanks 2Love this 10Oh no 0 - Jan 10, 2024
Foodland has got some of the best poke. Even better than a lot of restaurants too. They have a reasonable price on their poke selection (not the farms location) and is really fresh as well! The poke is decadent, tender and full of flavor. An absolute treat. Only thing is i wish there was a seating area here but it's alright. Service was really friendly even though it was our first time ordering poke in a grocery store. Really nice people, amazing poke!

I highly recommended this place of business! Im not a person who normally eats poke until I've had it from here. It's so fresh, amazing quality. I really loved the Wasabi flavor.
The inside was clean, when I checked out KoKo was my cashier. KoKo was such an amazing lad. She's so friendly, caring and a beautiful person. I've made it a point to come here many times not only for the poke but for such a wonderful customer service I've received.
Thank you so very much for the above and beyond quality of the food, and customer satisfaction of service from your employees.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
