A fun food truck experience at Fashion Square Mall

My wife and I had tried to go to Daily City's Food Truck event a few weeks ago, but we didn't find any trucks at the Lake Eola location listed on Yelp. While we were shopping at Fashion Square Mall today, we noticed a food truck event and decided to stop by. Low and behold, the Daily City Food Truck event is at Fashion Square Mall! We excitedly parked our car and went among the trucks.

The event is located on the front part of the mall near Colonial. They had approximately 15 trucks with lots of different varieties, ranging from BBQ to Vietnamese and more. They had several dessert trucks (crepes, cupcakes, etc.), as well as the biggest pizza food truck that you will ever see (it was essentially the size of a small restaurant). Out among the food trucks were tables for eating and signs describing the various truck menus. I noticed that several trucks had upgraded to digital menus as well. While the prices for most of the food were typically high food truck prices, all of the trucks looked rather clean and the food all seemed rather tasty.

After looking at all of the trucks, I decided to get some tuna and cod from the Cafe Rouge Truck (one of my favorites from the Highland Games Festival). While the portions were small (only one piece of cod?!) and they included too many fries, the cod and the tuna were very good.

Overall, Fashion Square Mall's Daily City Food Truck event is one of the better food truck events in Orlando. It is definitely worth checking out if you are near that area on a Sunday afternoon.

Headed to this event - now located in front of Fashion Square Mall - this past Sunday. Be sure to check out the Daily City's calendar on their website and FaceBook page for dates, since this is an ongoing, repeat activity. The trucks change out pretty frequently, so check out the participant listing, too!!

This is a great way to get a taste of Orlando all in one place. There are about 15 - 20 trucks on average, at each event. Personal faves include La Empanda and pretty much any truck that has sweets. We just tried the Cake truck (I'm drawing a complete blank on the name - I'll circle back with an update on that) and the Hot Fudge Sundae cupcake was ridiculously good!

They block off a good section of parking lot for this event, so there is plenty of space to bring folding chairs and a small table (recommend this actually). At the very least, bring some sports chairs with cup holders.

The lines can get pretty hefty on some of the days, so try to arrive early and hop in line at your faves to ensure you get what you are looking for to eat. We like to divide and concur. He'll go to one truck and I'll wait at another, and we'll regroup at a chosen place. This works well on busy days.

      Overall: A
A fun event, family / pet friendly, and plenty o' food to nom on!

This was my first time at the Food Truck Bazaar, and I had a fun time. It's a very family friendly and dog friendly environment. Bring a foldable chair! (I wish I had known there was a cute park area behind the food trucks with music and cute light displays.)
Veryyyy 1st date appropriate. -wink- ;)

      Ermahgerd! So many food trucks!

Thank you Daily City Orlando for organizing these events. People always dog on Orlando for being too touristy and not having enough culture or just a spot for Disney (no Disney hate). But, it's events like this that give me hope for my hood.

I haven't done a food truck bazaar in a while and last night at Fashion Square was a great time to go! There must've been at least 20 trucks there. So many choices from Filipino/Hawaiian, Tamales, legit Pizza, ice cream, cupcakes, burgers, fresh juice. Picky eaters will find SOMETHING they like. There was a DJ playing music, lawn carpets to sit on, extra tables and chairs. It was a great crowd of people including families and kids.

Like everyone says, bring some lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Cash, even though most take cards on their mobile devices. It's pet and family friendly. It would be a cool date idea. It's a great event!

It's so nice to see local food culture in Orlando alive and doing well. Love supporting small businesses and love supporting local food. Keep it up Orlando! Now if we can get a beer truck or booth... this would be 5 stars! :)

Fifteen food trucks roared onto the parking lot behind Orlando Fashion Square Mall and set up shop.....stand, shack. Whatever! They parked and kicked on generators or ran their engines or however these palaces of heaven run. Smoke billowed from BBQ trucks, lines started to form, sweat started to pour, people started arriving, dogs started arriving, music started blasting, yea its on. Let the grills and stoves do the talking.

Not your average lazy Sunday evening. This is hi octane eating. What to eat, which truck has the shortest line, whose food will run out, wait in line, wait for the crowd to ease, is it worth it? Decisions, Decisions, decisions, oh there is food!

After making a sweep of the pickings we settled on Fire House BBQ. The line was moving fairly good and the smells were just belly grumbling. Two sliders, 1 pork and 1 beef, hit the gut like little tickles. Succulent pulled pork and beef with a hint of sauce sat juicily between regular buns. They were pure joy.

Next up, Winter Park Fish Co. We had eaten at their restaurant in Winter Park. Great fresh seafood, nice atmosphere, breezy outdoor patio. Oh the truck. 2 Fish tacos served in a flash almost jumped into my throat. Fresh fish, light batter, crisp lettuce, light sauce, soft taco shell, delightful. These guys know how to handle fish.

To cool it all down, Sunset Ice. The most flavorful little drops of cold delicious coconut and mango flavored ice. There were pieces of coconut in every spoonful and the mango tasted like it was just picked. A real treat to cool off from the Florida sun.

Korean BBQ Taco Box stole the show for the entire event. Their line extended the parking lot length all night long. Most of the other trucks had long lines at 7 pm but shortened significantly around 9 pm. Not this bad boy. These guys rocked all the way to pass 9:30 pm when I left. Although I did not get to eat here tonight I have eaten at this truck and they are very good. Will review separately.

Even though there were a lot of people, every one seemed calm and relax. It seemed like a family evening in the park. Parking lot. Adults, kids, grand ma, grand pa, uncles, aunts, and of course Fido came along for the drooling. There were more dogs there than the doggie park. But all were well behaved and did not lick any bones or Italian ice or from what I could see.

Great event. Can't wait of the next one.

I enjoyed the Food Truck Bazaar! It's always fun in my opinion, to be a part of a gathering of people all in the name of food. I enjoyed the music, people/ pet watching and perusing the different food truck options. My only gripe is I could not locate a porta potty/ bathroom anywhere in sight (and neither could another lady in line who voiced the same complaint) and that just sucked because the lines were pretty long and after waiting in line for about an hour for the Korean BBQ Taco Bus, nature called.

The food was decently priced and overall I enjoyed the different entrees I tasted. I will definitely attend again, but now I know what to expect. Here are some tips: potty before you get there and limit your fluid intake (otherwise consider wearing an adult diaper), make sure you have cash on you, wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared for long lines and crowds of people.

But if you like sampling new foods, can appreciate unconventional dinning experiences and enjoy people watching, like I do, then this might be up your alley.

It's always a treat when the Food Truck Bazaar comes through. The selection varies each time. Sometimes you can try something unique. I was tempted to try kangaroo meat, but it was a bit pricey for a first-time experiment.

Arrive early so you can figure out what you want before the lines get crazy. If you plan to hang around, consider bringing a lawn chair, as there is often no seating.

I went to the monthly Orlando Food Truck Bazarr this month. This was the first time I've attended a food truck bazaar and it was an interesting experience. There were about 12-15 food trucks offering everything from lobster rolls to mac and cheese. It was almost overwhelming lol. We had to circle the trucks twice just to make a decision. The trucks were situated in a big circle and there were patches of artificial grass laid out in different areas for people to sit on. There were also a few tables where you can stand and eat. I would recommend that you bring your own chairs and small tables if possible. There was also a DJ playing music. We decided to eat from a truck named "Monsta Lobsta" I was sooooooooo pleased with this choice. We opted for the smothered lobster roll, which was an open faced lobster roll covered in lobster bisque. It was absolutely amazing!

This event was definitely family oriented so children and dogs were welcomed. I'm not an animal lover so the presence of the dogs was unappealing. Most of the trucks had long lines, and if there weren't tables available then you're stuck with standing and eating which, depending on what you purchase can be slightly difficult. And don't even think about adding a drink to the mix. The event as a whole was nice; however it's not something that I would do often. But if the craving for that lobster roll hits, to the Orlando Food Truck Bazarr I will go!

Smothered lobster roll from Monsta Lobsta!

Had a lot of fun at the Orlando Food Truck Bazaar. Yes, the lines were long, but that is to be expected. The weather was beautiful so standing in line was not a big deal. I would have given this event 5 stars if my meal was better.

We ate at the Red Eye BBQ truck which was just okay. I should have known it wasn't very good because it had one of the shortest lines. I had a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger came with nothing other than a bun, burger and cheese -- no lettuce, tomato, etc. It was also very small and looked like it was a frozen patty thrown onto the grill. A burger at a fast food place is much better. The fries were pretty good.

My husband had the beef brisket and mac & cheese. The beef brisket was good, but the mac & cheese was terrible. It was pasta with some sort of cheap cheese sauce like what you get with bad nachos at a sporting event or the movies. It was so bad, we each too two bites and threw it away.

I have been to a couple of food truck event and tried Big Wheel Provisions, Korean Taco Box, Treehouse Truck and Crooked Spoon. All of these were better than Red Eye BBQ. I will continue to go to food truck events, but will avoid dining at Red Eye BBQ.
