What a pleasant surprise this place was. I found myself with an hour and a half to kill on campus at UT and decided to walk to the Dobie Mall Food Court. I had not yet heard of this establishment and the man at the desk said they were brand new.
I ordered a hot ham and cheese crepe and was pleased how it came out. The crepe was very delicious and the cheese was melted just right.
The man at the counter told me how delicious their Strawberry Banana crepe was, so I splurged and got that also. Man, he was right. What a wonderful, sweet treat.
I will be returning.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mar 10, 2015
The great thing about college fundraisers is how they seem to find hidden restaurants that you have never heard of. Flip Jack Crepes is a perfect example because why else would you be walking into Dobie unless you live there? Okay, maybe for Oishi and Hoa Hoa if your cravings so desire. But anyways, this place is aesthetic, spacious, and very inviting. I admit I had my doubts about a campus crepe place, but their food is pretty darn good.
I ordered the Chicken Thai crepe, and my first impression is danggg the crepe is mad tasty! I don't know what they put in the batter, but it's all the right ingredients. My first two or three bites were filled with the spinach leaves, but once my teeth sunk into the chicken, I was sold. I'm not gonna exaggerate, the chicken isn't life changing. But it was tender, seasoned right, and tasted great with the veggies, sauce, and cilantro. They didn't skimp on the chicken either, I got a good piece in every bite.
I also got a couple small bites of the Banana Nut Chocolate crepe. It wasn't mine, but I really wanted to just eat the whole thing. The consistency and temperature of the chocolate cream is perfect, and I'm liking the size of the almonds.
As far as crepes go, $8 per order is generally expected, but still a bit expensive for the quantity you get. For me, the perfect amount would be 1.5 crepes on a normal night, 2 if starving. Also, If you're coming here during their peak hours, getting your food can take a while with only two guys cooking. But if you're with good company and plenty of time to kill, I suggest you give them a try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Luther F.Seattle, WA5051426Dec 11, 2014
Welcome to UT, Flip Jack Crepes! FJC is Dobie's newest tenant and offers a crepe fix to students at a short walking distance.
Some thoughts:
Business (but not service) seems extremely, extremely slow so far. I have literally never seen another person in line. I expect this to change once people realize that someone moved into Chippery's old location.
$7.99 for a crepe is pretty pricey... portion sizes aren't huge either. While FJC's prices certainly aren't unreasonable, Burrito Factory is the king of quantity in the Dobie domain. Keep in mind, though: you can't get banana nut chocolate crepes at Burrito Factory.
Regarding the crepes:
Turkey Delight Crepe: Really good. I was not wholly satisfied with the quantity (see above), but it's nice being able to eat something at Dobie that's not 120% of your daily intake of calories. The almonds were a nice touch, and the tofu sauce was quite tasty. They will let you substitute sauces if you find one that is more your thing.
Ham and Cheese Crepe: The filling is really not that different from the sandwich you could have made at home, but the crepe itself is pretty good - very airy and tasty. This one also comes with honey mustard sauce that is worth trying. For a "hot" crepe, I do wish it could have been more warm.
If you find yourself in Dobie, I would definitely give Flip Jack Crepes a try.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ingrid A.San Francisco, CA512205129Mar 24, 2015
Dobie is always a fun place to eat because the food is always a hit or miss. You never know what you're going to get!!!
...but this place was pretty good! I ordered the Chicken Thai. The crepe wrapper was fluffy (even for a crepe!) and had a really good flavor! Initially, I was worried about ordering a cold savory crepe since I didn't really know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and also came in a plentiful amount. The veggies were fresh and there were a lot!
Only qualm I have is that it was super hard to eat - everything was falling out by the time I got to the middle of it. I guess this can also be a good thing because it means the crepes had a lot of filling?! Oh, and they are really pricey. With tax, it's about $8.50 for one - although it was relatively filling (even though I wasn't that hungry), I probably wouldn't choose to eat here all the time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tina D.Austin, TX352114Jan 14, 2015
I've never actually been to the restaurant, but I've used 'Favor' delivery service to order from this place 3 times. I've never put a more delicious crepe in my mouth! My favorites are the savory caprese and the sweet chocolate banana! The chi locate banana is seriously the best desert ever! It has chunks of dark chocolate, fresh bananas and some kind of chocolate custard. I love the food and will continue eating these amazing crepes!

I have been to Flip Jack's 3 times now, and each time I have had a great experience. The first time I had the Thai Chicken and it was so good I had to order it again. When I think of crepes, I think dessert, but the variety of choices they had were very interesting. I went by for a snack on my third trip and tried the strawberry banana. Oh my goodness, it was awesome! I'm looking forward to trying some of the other options, but I'm definitely going to have to get that strawberry banana again soon.

We just had Flip Jack Crepes delivered to us at work! They tasted amazing especially the turkey/spinach. My favorite for dessert is the chocolate one which I believe had pretzels inside of it!

Crepes and coffee were excellent. Service was slow, especially so for a breakfast place.

Was on campus for a meeting and needed a quick lunch. The savory ham and Swiss crepe hit the spot. I will try to get back a sweet crepe before I leave.
