To top my new year, I decided to go on a burger hunt and ended up @ Fivetenburger, according to twitter the fivetenburger truck was in front of Acme bar. Staring through their menu I was eager to just try out their Grass Fed Burger with Swiss Cheese. Upon waiting I over heard some people ordering the Pork chop sandwich, which looked marvelous! but they happened to run out. Waited about 10mins and my medium rare burger was done.
My first bite? WOW so much flavor, I can taste all the different spices mixed in my burger, wasn't sure if it was Chef Robles special vinegar blend with cider, champagne and white vinegar that he uses to hand-brine his pickles or his special made mustard but I loved it. My only complaint was the bun-the bun was too thick, other than that I was a happy camper!Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 20Oh no 0 - Jun 12, 2012
I judge a burger not only by taste, but messiness. The messier the better!
Both times I got the loaded burger with egg. Identical appearance, temperature, and taste! Consistency, check!
What I love about their burgers is that they're made fresh. Hot off the grill, onto the bun, and into my mouth. The high quality beef is definitely also a winner! Honestly, all you need is a good grill and some good beef to make a killer burger. And then you need tons of napkins because the burger is dripping with sexiness.
I haven't tried anything else just yet because I can't get enough of this loaded burger!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Oct 2, 2013
Whenever I'm stressed, I eat. I had a Finance exam yesterday so I went straight to San Leandro's Streat Eats and stumbled upon Fivetenburger. You'd think I'd order a burger considering that this is what they're known for, but I went for a grilled cheese instead. Why?
Because 1. I feasted way too much at the Eat Real festival and it was time to beast at the gym so I went for what I thought was a healthier and less heavy of an option. Operation Beast and Feast is what I like to call this.
And 2. The grilled cheese was toasted on truffle oil - no further explanation needed.
Now if you ask me, grilled cheese is pretty basic. It's just cheese sandwiched in between two slices of the typical sourdough - but no... Fivetenburger outdid themselves with this one and the ingredients are really simple, and sometimes simple is what you need to make one outstanding sandwich such as this.
The swiss cheese was creamy and rich; the roasted tomatoes were soft, tender and cooked to perfection; and the sourdough, which was nearly the size of my face, was toasted on truffle oil. Best thing ever. It gave this sandwich another dimension of bold flavor. What I absolutely loved was that this grilled cheese sandwich came with a side of garlic oil fries! They were thin, crispy, and full of garlic flavor without the actual garlic pieces. Place a fry or two in your sandwich and you're golden.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - 4793344713675Jun 14, 2011
DISCLAIMER: Bun-LESS Review Tainted by Lettuce
My burgeoning obsession with wanting to try every new food truck coming into the oversaturated scene led me to Off The Grid - UN Plaza yet again (while my TJ's salad sat desolately in the office fridge).
Today, 6.14.11, my co-worker and I came to OTG around 11:50 AM. Since Mama's Empanadas' oven wasn't working and I wasn't going to pay $5 for a cold empanada, I ended up at FiveTenBurger by default.
TODAY'S FIVETENBURGER MENU (CC's Accepted)
As constructive criticism, the menu looks unprofessional and disorganized. The handwritten menu signs were scattered with half of it on the right side of the truck and the other half on the left side of the truck which made it confusing when ordering.
*LOADED BURGER w/ Choice of American, Cheddar or Swiss ($6.75)
*ORGANIC (GRASS FED) LOADED BURGER w/ Choice of American, Cheddar or Swiss ($8.75)
(All burgers are cooked Medium unless otherwise requested.)
*RIBEYE SANDWICH w/ Cheese & Garlic Mayo on a French Roll ($8)
*CHICKEN BREAST SANDWICH w/ Jack Cheese ($8)
*SAUSAGE SANDWICH w/ Cabbage Slaw ($7.50)
*GARLIC FRIES ($2.50)
**ADDITIONS**
-Bacon ($.75), Egg ($1), Castello Blue Cheese ($1), Grilled Swiss & Truffles ($6)
I ordered the Loaded Burger with Cheddar & an Egg with NO Mayo and NO Bun - ($6.75 + $1 for an Egg). The cashier cautioned that with the egg, my burger would be very messy to eat. Since I was going back to the office to eat, I didn't mind; there's nothing like an reenactment of the Carl Jr.'s commercial in the office anyhow. My order didn't take long. With three patrons before me, it only took 7 minutes to get my order.

Instead of the toasted brioche bun, they wrapped my burger in butter lettuce. As I sunk my teeth into the thick patty, juices started oozing out from the patty. It was cooked to a perfect pink medium and succulently juicy but not greasy. It was flavorful and seasoned just enough to bring out the natural rich beefy flavor in the patty. The cheddar added creaminess with a slight tang. When the cashier said, the addition of the egg would make my burger very messy to eat, I excitedly anticipated getting down and dirty. So I was disappointed when the egg was overcooked and the yolk was not runny. The accoutrements of the sliced tomato, red onions and pickles added freshness with a nice snap.
Was the burger good? For a truck, YES! However, they don't rival Pearl's, Hall of Flames and Urbun Burger which are my favorite burger joints. Then again, my review is tainted because it's just not a "burger" without the bun right?Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jan 29, 2013
I've been meaning to try 510 Burger and when they were one of the trucks at an event at Rockwall Winery in Alemeda I felt it was destiny.
I stuck to the basics with the "Loaded" burger (Natural grain fed golden gate meats 6oz burger, $6.75) with swiss cheese (included in price) + garlic oil fries ($2.50). A few minutes later a greasy sack appears in their take-away window.
Along with the cheese the "loaded" comes with lettuce, tomato, housemade pickles, onions, mayo, ketchup, and mustard wrapped in white paper to make eating less messy (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fivetenburger-oakland?select=NX51ycElgnsn0V4oD-b6Vg#LfD1HolFtf2DbLM5TZgm8Q). The thin-ish patty was cooked to a juicy medium-rare as requested (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fivetenburger-oakland?select=NX51ycElgnsn0V4oD-b6Vg#UsPo-43crJvwfStdqX-OQQ). The other toppings were fresh and I like the toasted brioche-y bun.
They give a generous portion of thin-cut fries for the $2.50 (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fivetenburger-oakland?select=NX51ycElgnsn0V4oD-b6Vg#NX51ycElgnsn0V4oD-b6Vg). They were crisp on the outside like I prefer, but didn't get much garlic flavor.
Burger: 4.5 stars
Fries: 3.5 stars (more garlic please!)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Aug 10, 2012
Fivetenburger was at OTG Civic Center Plaza earlier this afternoon, along with The Chairman, The Taco Guys, Hapa and Seoul on Wheels.
Because I had never tried the burger from the fivetenburger truck, I opted for the loaded burger, garlic oil fries and a blackberry Izze for $11.25. It was pricey for lunch, but it's Friday and I was very much eager to have their burger. The description of the loaded burger sounded great...burger with choice of American, swiss or cheddar with lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, red onion and the usual mayonnaise, mustard and catsup.
Me: Yes, loaded burger with cheddar, medium well, garlic oil fries and a blackberry IZZe, please.
Cashier: That's $11.25. You're number 28.
Me: Okay (paid cash); and waited.
I got my lunch and headed back to the office. The burger was done just the way I wanted it - medium well - grilled perfectly and pinkish on the inside. However, the burger to my disappointment was dry, lacking in flavor and not juicy. Granted there was melted cheddar cheese on top, but on the other side of the patty were the following: a thin lettuce leaf that was already wilted, one sliced tomato, one small sliced red onion, 2 dill pickles, little mayo, mustard and catsup. I always cut my burger in half in case I can't finish it and to see if any juice from the burger is on the wrapper. Tsk, tsk, no juice on the wrapper. No bueno. The amount of lettuce, tomatoes and dill pickles were no where compared to the photos that I have seen of the loaded burgers...2.5 stars. (I am also submitting my photos of the burger, garlic oil fries and the Izze.)
The garlic oil fries were tasty and good (3.5 stars), but I would not have mind if they were more garlicky. They were crispy on the outside and soft/moist on the inside...not mushy and no greasy taste.
Bottom line, I should have stuck with the Chairman truck and its tofu steamed buns with garlic aioli and baby bok choy...2/$6.50 for lunch today.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 2, 2013
Truffled tots and a Loaded burger?! Yes please! I was at Off the Grid: Upper Haight to try another truck, but couldn't resist trying this one when I saw Truffled tots on the menu. Since everything is made to order, it will take a while to get your food, but it's sooo worth it! When we got our bag of food, I was waiting in line for another truck, but was fighting the temptation to rip into it since the truffle smell from the tots was calling to me.
Fastforward to when I rip open the bag to see a bunch of tots covering my delicious burger! The tots were fresh out of the fryer and drizzled with truffle oil. Delicious! Once I dug through all the tots, I found my giant burger with bacon and egg. Let me tell you, the patty was cooked to a perfect medium and was sooo moist and tender! I'm drooling just thinking about it! I will definitely hit this truck up again next time I see it!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sep 22, 2011
Finally back at UC Eats and could not miss out on Fivetenburger again! Ever since seeing this truck featured on Eye On The Bay - Street Food Edition, I had to give this truck a try.
The UC Eats event just barely got started, luckily for me there was no line. The customer service was very welcoming. I ordered the Grass Fed Beef burger loaded with the bacon and egg. I also ordered the Rib Eye cheese steak and a side of garlic oil fries. And no I did not eat all of this. Maybe a quarter of the meal. I did share the cheese steak and fries.
The burger was cooked medium well. The patty was tender and juicy. the bacon was crispy. One bite of that burger and I had breakfast, lunch and dinner in my mouth. The cheese steak was tasty as well. IMO, is comparable to cheese steak shops around the bay area. There was a generous portion of vegetables, cheese. and rib eye. The fries were crunchy, not soggy at all. They also had a hint of garlic in them hence the name garlic oil fries.
I definitely will come back when they are in the area again. Fiveten representing in the 510!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 735522674Mar 6, 2015
Whenever I think of the Bay/SF region, I'm always reminded of Five Ten Burger.
It's everything I want in a burger, salty, greasy, piping hot and simply just delicious.
I dare say this might be the best burger I've ever had in my life. My burger was perfectly seasoned. Oh, and you really got to add an egg to it. This place is the first place I've ever added an egg to my burger (much thanks to the suggestion of my friends). I've got to say, I've been addicted to adding eggs to my burgers ever since. This one little egg makes such a different boom in flavor that it's simply amazing.
Don't forget to add an order of garlic fries as well, these are kind of like pringles. Once you pop, you can't stop.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Eric Y.San Mateo, CA3327391408Oct 30, 2014
NEVER AGAIN!
You ripped me from my perfect lunch and time. $13 dollars for the Grassfed Burger + Fries.
I ordered:
- Grassfed Burger w/ American Cheese (Meat was to be cooked to medium). + Egg (asked for it over medium so it doesn't drip all over the place)
- Garlic Fries.
Anyways, there wasn't anyone behind me while I waited for the burger. It was a dreadful wait. The person in front of me only ordered a sandwich. How do you manage to satisfy your customers if the line get's long?
Finally got my burger and ran back into the office to enjoy. Took a bite into it and found out that the burger I just ordered did not included the egg. Where's the egg?. How do you forget the egg? Now I'm thinking to myself, "Do I have to walk back and get the egg?" I went back to the truck and told the lady behind the glass window. She was like ohh, "sorry." Took in my sandwich and asked the chef. The cooked turned around and asked me did you ask for an egg? WTF? You charged me for it.
Dreadful wait again.....
I was called back. They didn't make a new burger.. They took my burger with a bite and kepted it sitting on the counter until they made and egg. I looked at what he handed me and was so disappointed. You left my burger sitting there to cool off while you made that egg. Oh and you didn't bother to bag it for me (i had to carry the spoiled burger back into the office). You just spoiled the entire lunch for me. Couldn't you make a new burger? The burger that I bit into was now cold with an warm egg. The egg was cooked sunny side up and dripping everywhere. Everything was soggy because you let it sit, drenched!
Not to mention, the fries went bad while waiting for the burger too.
Oh, and it was a burnt piece of meat. They used super high heat and got the meat all burnt. Tasted really bad! You can see my picture of the burnt burger. I only took a few bites and threw the entire lunch away.Helpful 23Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
