      First to Review

I have been a member at every gym in the Santa Clarita Valley at one point or another. My biggest complaint with most of the gyms was the crowds. That is why when Fitness Compound opened, I left my current gym and joined there. Their monthly rates are based on what "level" of the gym you join. At the time of this review, they had 3 levels. They have a basic level, an extreme level and a martial arts level. The price increases with each level. The basic level is very reasonably priced at around $19 per month and the other levels dramatically increase the monthly fee.

When I took my tour (which, like most gyms, was done by a salesman), I was impressed at the offerings they have that are not typically seen at other gyms.......a rock climbing wall, batting cages, punching bag room, martial arts classes and a large MMA octagon smack dab in the middle of the gym. "Wow....this place is cool" I thought to myself. When finished with the tour, I went back to the sales pitch area and was quoted the prices. It was now learned that you get NONE of the aforementioned offerings at the basic level. That means all you really get is a small gym at about the same price as the other large gyms in the area. Guessing I could deal without having access to a rock climbing wall, batting cages, punching bag room, etc., I elected to join anyway to get away from the crowded gym I normally go to.

The gym is small compared to others and they do not have a lot of equipment. In addition, they are missing quite a few machines you see at other gyms. They only have 2 bench presses and only 1 cable cross-over machine. In addition, they only have 1 set of each weight of dumbbells. That means if someone is using a 35 pound dumbbell, you are out of luck until their done. Even though this place is not really busy, it only takes ONE other person using your machine or weight and you are waiting. They only have 1 of everything, except the bench press and cardio equipment.

Now to the cardio equipment. They only have 4 treadmills! Yes, I have had to wait for these several times and you know that the wait for one can be long....sometimes 20 minutes or longer. They have TV's at each one; however, 1 to 2 always seem to be broken.

The classes......well, this is where this gym excels. They offer excellent classes at the basic level, such as Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, Pace circuit, and TRX . However, they do not have many of the classes, usually one every other a day! That means if you miss the ONE class, you are sh#t out of luck for a few days. The MMA/martial arts classes and boxing classes require the premium membership.

Also, the gym has excellent customer service. The staff is attentive and friendly.

I would like to see a few rules made at this gym. One: require all members to bring a towel. I do not see many people with towels and I am sick of having to wipe other people's sweat off the machine when they are finished. Two: Make people re-rack the weights (or have a staff member walk around and do it). There are always weights left on the bench press and other machines when I get to them. That really annoys me!

In conclusion, I think this gym is not worth it if you simply join at the basic level. This gym was made for people to join at thier highest level in order to benefit from all they have to offer.

Pro's: The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I love the basic membership so my classes are limited. The ones I do go to are great. The instructors are awesome and run great classes.

Cons: I'm sad to say that I regret joining this gym. The place is falling apart! There are only 5 treadmills, one of which rarely works, one of which is a relic, three do not have working tv's. there are 5 elipticals, 4 bikes and one stair climber. At busy times, there is often a wait and in the summer, there are no fan in front of the cardio area. Some machines have fans, but a couple fans are on the machines that don't work. Honestly, it looks like the equipment was all purchased secondhand when the gym opened, as there is little consistency between models.

The bathroom facilities are just downright old and nasty.

The cost of the gym is expensive for what you get. The same price at other local gyms will provide you with much nicer facilities with better upkeep.

I recently joined the Fitness Compound, and initially started due to a huge desire to lose the weight that I had maintained because of a hip replacement surgery (two of them) and kids. I started with the Couch to Beach but realized it was a bit much for me (too much, too soon.) I absolutely LOVE the Zumba class with Jehane. She is so amazing and full of energy, with an added sense of humor. She also encourages you when she sees you are trying your hardest, and I have never had that feeling before at a gym. I often felt invisible.

The only drawback for me is that for single parents, this gym is a bit highly priced. While I would LOVE to get my kids involved in their Kidz Fit Program, there is no way I can afford to do so with what I am currently paying. It would help if they accommodated those specific needs.

Other than that, the staff is incredibly friendly, and I would recommend it highly to those who are interested in a smaller environment with top-notch classes and service.

I just recently joined this gym. I used to belong to one of the big corporations out here in SCV. Absolutely hated it. I had a prepaid 2 year membership and I visited probably 5 times...
So when I drove by Fitness Compound it caught my eyes, because it looked like a private gym (years ago I belonged to one and loved it). So I thought I'll give it a try. Me and my husband went in one Saturday and we signed up on the spot. Very friendly staff, all brand new equipment, clean and even with the basic membership you get to take a bunch of classes. And affordable!
      Definitely recommend!

My wife and I cancelled our memberships when we moved away, we also got confirmation of our cancelled memberships. Yet for 2 months we were still charged for our memberships. We called, emailed, and even went in and spoke to the owner and were promised that we would get those charges for 2 months reversed and credited back to our account. Yet months now have gone by and even with additional contact we never got our refunds.

Great facility but they get a low score due to poor customer service.

When Zumba instructor Jehane left 24HF and started teaching here, I and many others followed her & never looked back (yes, she's that good). I've never regretted this decision. Fitness Compound is certainly a smaller gym but I actually like that. The staff and trainers are more like family than the corporate drones you may find at the big chains.
Just a sampling in addition to the Amazing Jehane: Ricky teaches two levels of a bootcamp-style class; I love his Couch to Beach class which is geared toward beginners but gets you in shape quickly. Ricky is so great about tailoring your workout around your limits (e.g., there are several in the class w/ knee injuries, etc., and he takes the time to work w/ them individually). Wendell is an awesome instructor for the ever-popular cycle classes, and Michelle will motivate you w/ her fast-paced Kickboxing and Miami Mama classes. With all of these classes, you will walk away sweaty & sore but find yourself craving more.
They offer a ton of other classes including Krav Maga, TRX & Vertical Fitness. Yes, some of the classes require an upgraded membership but even the basic membership will get you classes like Zumba, Cycle, Kickboxing, Pilates, Yoga & Miami Mama. They offer different discount membership specials throughout the year too so keep an eye out for those.
There's a basketball court downstairs and a batting cage upstairs. They took out a second batting cage to add some new tanning beds. There's no pool or sauna. Oh, and just an FYI, they took out the MMA cage recently, I guess w/ a plan to add more TRX and other workout stations to that area. From what I can tell, they are still doing the MMA workouts, just without the cage.

This is a real gym for people who are serious about getting into shape. Do the mid level membership it's worth it. Take the classes the trainers are not fat and out of shape like LA Fitness. They set the example! A trainer needs to look the part ! They don't pussy foot you around here they push you to your limit. TRX all the way!
