About the Business
Fishermen's Catch is owned and operated by an Italian fishing family that dates back three generations. The father-son team both own their own fishing boats - the Sandy Bea and Philip Nick. They specialize in catching fresh white sea bass, local halibut, crabs and lobsters. The Guglielmos opened Fishermen's Catch to bring fresh affordable fish to the public. They take pride in both their fish and their customers. After fishing in the early morning you can visit them at the fish market and grill. They purchase the fish they don't catch from high-quality vendors. If we don't eat it...We won't sell it. Come visit us at Fisherrmen's Catch as we are "Redefining Fresh."

I wasn't excited to eat here. It's in a strip mall, has an unsuspecting store front, and you order at a counter.
But let me tell you, the food was amazing! The clam chowder in the bread bowl was the star of my show and my husband raves about the lobster roll. If you're in the area and are looking for good food, don't pass this place up!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tokunbo A.Ewa Beach, HI181126311Apr 5, 2024

I haven't been here in a while and for the most part I feel like things are the same. The one thing that was very noticeable was the amount of food you get in the captain's combo. My family and I would always have felt overs and now the ports are not as generous as they used to be. With that being said the flavors are still there! Everything is delicious and perfectly cooked. They have an amazing clam chowder that is so creamy and delicious! They also have fountain drinks, wine, beer or micheladas. I had a michelada and it was great.
The service is always great. All of their employees are always friendly. When you get there you have to order your food first, they give you a number and then sit down, they'll bring your food and drinks to you. The seating is comfortable and the tables are large.
The restaurant has plenty of seating inside or outside. Oh! And you can also purchase fresh seafood for here! My kids love watching their lobster tank. Once you are done eating you can go outside and take a nice walk around the harbor. This place is a definite a favorite of mine.Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 4Oh no 0 - Robert S.Tempe, AZ07615Mar 31, 2024
I came because of the ratings. I ordered the shrimp poboy. The focus is supposed to be on the shrimp. They were so small and so breaded I couldn't taste shrimp. There were more dill pickles and lettuce by far. $26 with a fountain drink.

This building looks very unassuming from the outside. Looking at pictures would've made me guess that it was located in a strip mall. Inside they have a nice display of fresh seafood.
We ordered half grilled calamari, aguachiles, and I had a corvina plate for myself with grilled veggies and garlic bread. The order took around 15 minutes to get.
The grilled calamari option is pretty cool. Most restaurants only have fried calamari. I don't like shrimp typically, but the aguachiles were pretty good and I liked it a lot. For my main plait, my garlic bread had a very nice char to it but my veggies felt more steamed than grilled. The corvina is basically a sea bass and tasted like one (good). The tartar sauce is also a nice touch
A few annoying things included the lack of napkins at the table, a bone in my fish, and a shrimp tail in my aguachiles.
Despite this, I still enjoyed eating here and would recommend this spot for seafood fans nearby.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 65236306Oct 6, 2023
I hadn't been to the fisherman's Catch in years. My friend and I checked into a timeshare in Oxnard and I remembered it being so good I asked about it. Apparently it has changed owners and a lot of development took place around it, but it is still there! I think I ate here starting 20 years ago.
They still have a fresh fish market and a really great menu. And happy hour plates that are about 10 bucks if you buy a drink! I had three street tacos, two salmon, and one shrimp, and a margarita and my bill was 20 bucks. And not only affordable but super super delicious. My friend also had an amazing simple side salad and fried clams with french fries. Will definitely keep coming back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 4629763061Jul 23, 2023
Fishermen's Catch has been hiding right in plain sight from me all these years. This restaurant has delicious seafood and friendly staff, I'm sorry I didn't try it sooner but safe to say I'll be back!
Located in the busy restaurant packed shopping center in Oxnard I hadn't realized this place was here as it kind of blends in with the others. Found them on Yelp and was really craving some seafood with a harbor vibe and I knew I had to make a stop here. If you want easy in and out then come right at opening. I came at 11:15am and it was pretty dead inside. I heard them say after 12pm they start getting super busy and that was definitely accurate. I like a more intimate quiet setting so coming early was perfect for me.
You order at a counter and if your eating inside they give you a number and bring your food to you. I also heard them say that while they have outdoor seating overlooking the harbor, if you eat outside they pack it to go. I opted for inside so I could have a more formal dining experience. The inside isn't too big but had plenty of seating from booths to tables. The menu is also impressively large. You'll surely find something for everyone here but of course they'll be known for their seafood dishes.
The gal taking my order behind the counter was super friendly. She helped me navigate the menu and gave me good suggestions. She told me their teriyaki sauce was really good so even though I didn't want a full Asian flavored dish, I did substitute rice for my fries so I could try it out. Anyways - back to service. Everyone here is super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. 5/5 for positive vibes and helpful people. The man running the plates out looked to maybe be the manager and he was super nice.
The food and drinks are where it's at though! Everything was good and I would totally get these dishes again.
Watermelon Cucumber Margarita: 4/5. Please note this isn't a traditional looking or tasting margarita but it hit the spot. Almost reminded me of a watermelon seltzer but it was refreshing and a good size. Add the tajin rim and its perfection.
Clam Chowder: 4/5. Another solid bite. Its not the best clam chowder I've had in the area but it totally hit the spot. More potato bites then usual but it gave the chowder a nice thickness and it was tasty.
Popcorn Shrimp: 5/5. The best fried popcorn shrimp that ive had in a very long time. Its nostalgic reminding me of my childhood, super fresh and crunchy. Also was really impressed with the portion size. A good value and was just a super tasty dish.
Also note Im a sauce gal and their sauces here are primo! Loved the tartar sauce and their teriyaki sauce. Super good!
Lastly, the prices were super reasonable. Where can you get a cocktail, an appetizer, and a main dish consisting of seafood for $30? I found it to be a great value & adding on the stellar food, atmosphere, and service, this spot is an easy 5 stars on Yelp.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - 115381166Dec 5, 2023
Been a moment since I was last here, but so grateful I stopped by for lunch! Enjoyed mahi-mahi, rice and grilled broccoli. Yum! Everything was deliciously prepared. A healthy option for lunch instead of fast food. Plenty of seating inside and patio tables as well. Looking for a fresh alternative? This is your spot. Enjoy!

YUMMY SEAFOOD IN OXNARD!!!
This is GrandPop's favorite seafood place in Oxnard/The 805 lately! Lots of options for seafood in Oxnard, as this is a beach town. There are some "more famous" ones in the Ventura area, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are guaranteed tasty fresh seafood, though. Here at Fisherman's Catch, it just hits the spot for this Old Sea Dog's picky palate to make him smile after every meal! Can't argue with that, hence the frequent visits so he can pop those pearly whites wide open! Parking typically isn't a challenge but there are competing restaurants so sometimes may have to stroll a lil bit! Friendly Counter service and then if you are eating here, they will bring the food to you. FYI... if you choose to eat outside in the patio area they pack your order "to go." It's nice to see the fresh fish cuts and shellfish options as soon as you enter. The dark wood panels and Fishing Boat images create a nice nautical look within. Alrighty... let's eat!
FRIED CALAMARI (full plate): My family loves fried calamari and this is probably their favorite location for it. This is The Comparison. It comes as a BIG plate of tentacles and circles with a crispy batter and cooked just right so the meat is not gummy. They also provide Cocktail sauce and Tartar sauce with every order. Don't try to have a conversation or get distracted when this lands on the table in the presence of my boys. They QUICKLY demolish this lol
GRILLED SWORDFISH PLATE: Old Sea Dog's "go to" dish here. He likes the freshness of Swordfish and the way they season and grill it. When it arrives on the table, he impressed with the size. Then he takes a whiff...uh oh! Smile Alert! Then every bite brings him a genuine sense of comfort. Cannot argue with any of that! The onion rings are his typical side dish but we have to force him to eat greens, so the way they prepare their sautéed broccolini is something he won't complain about lol. Winner dish for sure!
NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER WITH SOURDOUGH BOWL: This is a very good New England Style chowder for the City of Oxnard. Can't say there is a better one in Port Hueneme or Channel Islands Harbor. Lots of chunks of clam in a thick soup. Good flavor to it. The sourdough is soft and easy to tear so you can enjoy it as you work your way through the chowder. I REALLY like the touch, where they've poured chowder on top of the bowl core on the plate it arrives on. Definitely cool style points right there!
EASY RECOMMENDATION for seafood and a harbor view in Oxnard. Something to consider if you are ever in my neck of the woods. Enjoy!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Oct 31, 2014Previous reviewCan't remember EVER seeing a LOBSTER ROLL being served by local eateries here in Coastal Ventura County. That's just not the kind of thing you'd expect from my hometown even though we technically are a harbor/beach town. Yet, here comes Fisherman's Catch, doin' their thang to change the game 'round here. Oh yeah, we're movin' on up! Watch out Beverly Hills! Nyahh! Fisherman's Catch is a relatively new fish & chips spot NOT RELATED to similarly named Fisherman's House or Fisherman's House Sushi nearby. After a couple of visits and staring at it on the menu every time, but settling to enjoy their delicious fish & chips instead, it was time to break the mold and dare to be different, hah! We sampled a few items...
*RICK'S LOBSTER ROLL: At $22.99, I'm thinking something amazing is about to happen! I IMAGINE a large roll exuding warm, succulent, chunky, lobster pieces with maybe hints of butter as part of the experience. Menu says it's mixed with mayo, green onions, & celery. So, creamy? And, we always need some greens, right?!? Sadly, I psyched myself out and hopes were COMPLETELY dashed when the roll arrived. First, IT'S SERVED COLD! Aw man! So, it's a lobster SALAD roll. Why can't the menu say that? Why doesn't the order taker warn me? Tastes no different than a chicken salad sandwich. Matter of fact, if you told me this was chicken I woulda believed you. Small in size and Bland as well. I've had delicious lobster rolls elsewhere, however, this was Absolutely, NOT WORTH IT. The onion rings as my side were perfect, thankfully.
*GRILLED RED SNAPPER SPECIAL: Good sized piece with simple preparation here, accentuates the red snapper flavor, which was only okay to Wifey. Added Tapatio, lemon, salt , and pepper to spruce up the taste. Grilled veggies were decent. She noted that she likes their grilled Mahi & Salmon much more.
*CORN DOG NEMO MEAL: Munchkin gave 2 thumb's up and a big smile when asked how it was. He "said" he wasn't hungry, but made this thing disappear in no time.
Their fish & chips are awesome here, BUT our menu choices today sure didn't hit the spot. So, normally it's a 4 star experience here, but today, 2 yelp stars at best. Average out the ratings? Shock & awe with an "eh" 2 stars? Should I click my Ruby Red Chucks ;) twice, pretend it never happened and review a previous experience? All I know is, STICK WITH the chowda and their fried stuff, it's always been delish. No way I could recommend "Rick's COLD lobster SALAD roll." - Oct 23, 2023
It's been years since I've last eaten here. I'm glad to say that the quality and freshness of their seafood is still very high. We came by for lunch on a weekend and it was not busy. There are plenty of seats indoor and even a few outdoor. The menu is large, so take some time to review before you arrive to the ordering counter. I had a light lunch and appreciated the options on the menu. The cup of chowder was very big for a cup and pretty thick and wholesome. I prefer my clam chowder a little thinner, but it was good and I would order this again. The fish taco was also very fresh and filling. I especially loved the salsa that came with the meal because it had extra heat and spicy. Highly recommend this place if you want fast and casual seafood.
