Hello, Finnegan's; it's been a while!
It's very obvious that you've changed, Finnegan's. You've clearly been doing some work on yourself, and the results are fantastic.
Ok, no, I can't do the letter-to-Finnegan's thing this entire time :P
My husband, 18 month old daughter, and I swung by Finnegan's after a neighborhood event. I was very skeptical about trying this again, because a couple of years ago, it was definitely just greasy bar food.
This time, though, the experience was very different! First, the service was really great. I felt very comfortable being there with my daughter. It felt more family-friendly than it had in the past. Of course, it was lunch time, so... there's that :) Not exactly prime drinking time.
The food was really good! Tasty burger, crunchy and fresh fries and chicken tenders. I'm glad to see this place is doing better after the refresh :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 23, 2013Previous reviewThis place is so "meh" if you're looking for food... but they do have tons of events, which I'd imagine would be pretty fun!
I really like their pretzels, but that's about it. I even was disappointed by their St Patrick's Day menu. I mean, it's typical bar food...so that's what you'll get here. If you're looking for greasy bar food, it's decent. - Ashley A.San Marcos, CA8111884Jul 26, 2009Updated review
We still frequent this place.. my boyfriend goes every Tuesday night for poker (no buy-in, $75 1st place, $50 2nd place). I go sometimes too... it's really fun!
They have 2 and 3-dollar drink specials most nights.. the wings are pretty good-- big, meaty, flavorful and only FIVE BUCKS!!!
My drink of choice is a vodka/club soda (w/ lime wedge)... they are delicious, lighter on calories, and a good way to get a buzz going in only 2 or 3 drinks. They only cost about 5 bucks, which isn't bad; way less than paying for a martini, a vodka-cranberry, or even a shot of vodka for some reason.. so, I'm happy now. Yeah, you will wait to use the bathroom sometimes (as mentioned in my initial review); but I've never experienced being actually turned away from using the bathroom altogether, as another reviewer had. Must've been an extremely out of the ordinary night.. been coming to this place for 4 years now and have never heard of that happening.
Mike is the manager, and frequently bartends- he's an awesome guy, you should say hello to him next time you go. Danny, one of the servers, is one of the coolest people ever too. So, suffice it to say that overall, Finnegan's has a really nice staff and the service is usually very good, even on crowded nights. The outdoor seating area is nice, and you can bring your dog with you too which is really fun.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Mar 16, 2009Previous reviewI got drunk here last night. It was expensive.
More expensive than drinking at Clyde's... and not cool, because this used to be Kirkpatrick's. Good ole' KP's from back in the day.. where you could get sh*tfaced and still walk out with usually less than a $40 tab. What was our tab last night? 90 dollars. That's right, NINETY.
Well what the hell could you have possibly ordered for ninety dollars, you ask? Well, between the two of us...(and don't judge us too harshly- (1) I am a lush. and (2) we were pre-gaming for St. Patrick's Day bc neither of us are gonna be able to go out since we have to be at work all early the next day... I hate being a grown-up.)
5 beers (at SIX DOLLARS A POP).
2 "Irish trash cans" @ TEN DOLLARS EA
2 Irish car bombs @ eight dollars each
2 "Adios motherfuckers" @ seven dollars each
1 plate of spicy fried pickles (literally 5 pickle spears) @ eight dollars
=one hell of a huge tab. Granted, we should've asked less than halfway through the night what our tab was (as there are no prices listed for drinks), but we figured it was no big deal since the place is essentially Kirkpatrick's with new wallpaper. Needless to say we were shocked and sad when we got the bill.
Apparently, we can only afford to come here on weekdays from 4-7 for happy hour. Seriously, this place is awesome simply because of the nostalgia and memories of KP's, but the drinks are not on par with the old prices; you can pretty much go to a place like Clyde's and drink for less money if that's what you want to do.
So, in summary-
Finnegan's Pros:
No smoking
Huge bar and ample seating
Accomodating waitstaff
Loud live music
It's Kirkpatrick's!!
Finnegan's Cons:
No smoking
Pricey beer
Uber-pricey mixed-drinks
Loud live music
TWO stalls in women's bathroom (expect to wait)
People like us come to a place like Finnegan's to get sloshed and not break the bank doing it. Too bad that's not quite the case here any longer. - Charles S.VA, VA169278177Apr 11, 2016
I play poker here from time to time.. I love the atmosphere, the bartenders are hilarious and the beers are always cold.. I don't eat a whole lot when I'm there, but what I've had has been cool.. Definitely check them out!!!

I have to agree with others no customer service we had a party of 5 and waited 10 minutes for wait staff and 45 minutes for food. I really want to like the place but needs improvement.
With all the choices in the area it is only a matter of time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

The chicken cobb salad was really yummy. I also had the leek soup and shared the crispy calamari appetizer. All were good. I like my food on the lighter side and the new chef complied with my tastes. Even the calamari, which was fried, was not greasy at all.
Went with a bunch of friends and left before the band came on, I would have liked to have stayed for the music, but am not a late night person.
Give them a break, they are under new ownership and working things out. Hope to go back soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charity R.Hagerstown, MD57348Mar 13, 2016
Food was average. Had a pretty dry prime rib sandwich. Boyfriend had the Shepard's pie. While it looked cute, it wasn't great.

It makes me sad that places that hold trivia have such mediocre food. The pub fries, were more like a plate of melted cheese with fries in it. I'm all for indulgence but this was a sad scary plate to consume.
Their boneless wings for happy hour specials were good. Got them mild, they come with ranch and a couple sticks of celery.
My boyfriend ordered the Shepherd's pie, which was incredibly bland, average at best. Our other friend ordered the burger with Guinness BBQ sauce. He didn't think it was much of a BBQ sauce, he taught it tasted more like ketchup.
Overall we were unimpressed. The worst part is that our waiter had the worst timing and would come over and start asking us questions, during trivia questions, which we were very obviously taking part in.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff T.Prosper, TX3893Sep 22, 2016
Went in at 7:30 on a Thursday. They weren't real busy, plenty of seats. I had to wait 10 minutes to see a server then another 15 to get a drink. I ordered nachos and fish and chips. Nachos weren't bad, fish and chips were awful. Crispy on the outside, runny on the inside. When the server dropped off my nachos, he didn't notice that my glass was empty so I had to stop him to order a drink. It was a draft beer. I waited about 10 minutes, he brought my entree, and then brought my second beer about 5 minutes later. I never saw him again. Never checked to see if my food was ok, never checked to see if I needed anything. Never even brought the check. I left some cash on the table and left 30 minutes after I finished my meal.

Hi Jeff - I'm sorry you had a bad experiance, that is unacceptable for Finnegan's Grill - We have addressed this with staff members and are taking steps to make sure this does not happen anymore.

There's something familiar about this place. Feel like I've been here before, ah yes... Kirkpatrick's! I'm happy this place stuck around and reopened with a new owner and new theme. I loved Kirkpatrick's but in it's last year, it went downhill, waaaaaaay downhill. I can't take karaoke everynight, especially all country!!!!!
Mike is the manager and couldn't be a nicer guy. Always there with a smile and great service. Danny and Sarah are awesome, so if you see them there, take real good care of them!!!!! Tuesday night are fun, it's poker night! No buy-in obviously, but first prize $75, 2nd $50 and 3rd $25. Not bad at all.
Happy hour from 4-7 all draft beers 3 dollars. Two hearted ale and some Blue moon, perfect dinner if your taking it easy :)
This place came back like the phoenix on a trans-am, it's great and nice to have around.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
