I hadn't been in here because I assumed it was a cheapo store without quality products. I was very wrong. And the employees are about 100x better than what Stop & Shop is offering right now. I am making an effort to come here more often. :)

Was there the morning of the 7th of April. Cashiers aren't very welcoming. Especially that dyed hair girl. Not friendly and standoffish. She seem bored as well. Maybe you should work at McD's. Or Starbucks. They'll like your attitude there.

Otherwise the food choices were good. Stock up on more Kombucha and now we're talking.

Village Market is cheaper than most of our local groceries stores! Recently I did a comprehensive price compare between Village Market, Roche Bros, and Whole Foods and found that, despite being a independent grocery store, Village Market price beat on almost everything I buy consistently. I also love the local products they carry and I've discovered a bunch of great brands (hello, Phillips chocolate!).
I wish they would increase their local offerings further (local frozen meat) and up their cheese game. And they could do with some serious reorganization of the store. Often I stand in the aisles know the thing I want is somewhere in the store but having no idea where.
BUT. I'm so grateful they're here for us, they're affordable, and they really have pretty much everything you could need. Thank you Village Market!

Super convenient if you live in the neighborhood. If I've run out of something or forgotten an ingredient for dinner, it's just a 10-minute walk away.

I the Village Market. It's so great to be able to walk down the street to get most anything I need. Especially in snow storms. My only complaint is that because they're doing such a great job of catering to diverse food communities, it's often hard to find exactly what you are looking for because similar items are not on the shelf together but are with the other items from say Goya or Bob's Red Mill, or Gluten Free section, etc. But the staff is always very friendly and helpful and will order request items as well.

There have been a number of complaints about the cleanliness and level of customer service at this store. Let me add that they fail to comply with a number of laws:

1: Seafood is required to be labeled with the country of origin. There is no sign that lists this information and the counter person has no idea where it comes from.

2.If a store is out of an advertised product, they're required to offer a rain check. VM refuses to do so. I stopped in today to make a purchase of a sale item. They were out of it, wouldn't be restocking until after the sale (it's a regularly stocked item), and gave me no option to get it at the sale price once it was back in stock.

      3. If the check-out computer doesn't give an advertised price (or one on the shelf), the store is required to give one of that item free (up to $10). They refused to do so even though I showed them a print-out of the law.

      4. Insult to injury - I'd bought a glass bottle of high-end root beer there and was charged a deposit. When I tried to return it to get the deposit back, their machine only takes cans and plastic and the store staff refused to manually return the deposit. Only 5 cents but really now...

I will now only shop there as a last resort. What a shame, considering the promise of 20 years ago. I think new ownership is needed.

On Feb 19, 2021 in the time of coronavirus, the Village Market had nothing to disinfect the shopping cart handles at the entrance to the store. There was no even an empty bottle of sanitizing wipes, which would show a manager put out the effort to care for the health of local community.

You can get fresh fruit and veggies here at descent prices. Some fruit on sale is as good as deal as the largest supermarkets. You can also get Pigs Fly and Iggy's bread. You have to really look and give it a chance. Also, the people are nice.

I went in 1 time and would not go back! I felt prices were really high! This place is good for those who live close and can walk! Parking is limited! Didn't find many of the things I use on a daily basis!

I would love to give a positive review of this grocery store because it is a neighborhood store, but customers need to be wary. Yesterday, I bought groceries and paid for a cash back. I realized later that I didn't receive the cash back, and came back today to request it. The store manager told me to come back an hour later because a different employee had to count the money to verify. When I came back, he told me that the employee still wasn't there, then told me to leave the store because there was nothing he could do. This manager doesn't know how to count himself. He also doesn't care about wasting people's time.

Update: I received a phone call from a different manager. She verified that I didn't receive the cash back, and told me that I could get it from her.
