Is it just me? I seem to get ignored by the staff at the doctors office. I have had two tests over there and I got no word back from them on the results.
If you are out there, please call me.
Next time I am going elsewhere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - M M.San Mateo, CA439Aug 16, 2021Updated review
Dr Ribera is fine, but please be advised that the billing services for insurance is sub par.
It has taken me over 2 months to get confirmation that my out of pocket expense (over $500) paid for a routine procedure should be reimbursed and after numerous escalations, voicemails, emails, I was told I was in fact entitled to the reimbursement but still have not yet received it. Time for Dr Ribera to find an insurance billing company that is more efficient, timely and has integrity and treats their patients with respect!!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 29, 2015Previous reviewAlthough I have heard good things about Dr Ribera, I have left 4 messages on his answering machine over a 3 week period during normal business attempting to schedule an appointment and have not received 1 call back. If the office is unable to manage requests or if Dr. Ribera is not accepting new patients, this should be clearly noted.

I've seen Dr. Ribera and his team since my first routine screening colonoscopy, at age 50. (Have since had a second 10-year screening and will have a one-year follow up to that in a couple of days.)
I am writing this review for two reasons:
1. To endorse Dr. Ribera and his team in the strongest possible terms, and
2. To tell anyone poking around Yelp for advice on this ... uncomfortable ... topic to TAKE IT SERIOUSLY AND NOT DEFER YOUR SCREENING.
Dr. Ribera is a good guy. Can't say it any more plainly. He is smart, experienced, good-natured, and honest. My last screening turned up some worrisome precancerous stuff. He explained it to me in simple terms, had a game plan in mind, and combined reassurance with directness--just what you need and want.
His Physician Assistant, Sara, is great. (She sees most patients for pre-procedure evaluation.) His front office team is solid. My procedure was postponed due to pandemic issues, and they communicated with me regularly.
Finally: a colonoscopy is not the most enjoyable way to spend 24 hours (from prep through procedure) but it saves lives. It can save yours. It has saved family and friends of mine. So don't listen to whatever conspiracy stuff you might find online. Take the prep, deal with the short term consequences (!) and have the damned test. It's worth it.
And try to have Dr. Ribera perform it. I love the man.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Phil C.San Mateo, CA27892Nov 2, 2020
Dr. Ribera and his staff did a great job educating me on the colonoscopy procedure and made me feel very comfortable during the entire process. I highly recommend him and his team!

I was not looking forward to my first colonoscopy, but saw Dr Ribera on the recommendation of a friend. Unlike a previous review, my whole experience, from the first call, to the initial appointment, to the procedure, and follow-up were like clockwork. And you can tell that they really care about making patients feel comfortable and understand the process.
Dr Ribera is exactly what you would want in a GI doctor; professional, caring, a comforting manner and extremely thorough and clear. I felt like he was my personal advocate throughout the process. And his staff was professional, efficient and delightful.
No one enjoys this type of procedure, but Dr Ribera made it so easy, next time will be no big deal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Herman L.San Mateo, CA0183Nov 25, 2019
Dr. Ribera & his office team were awesome to work with...the thought of being put to sleep and then having a camera probe your innards are never pleasant, but a must @ the half century mark of one's life.
I had to make a few appt. changes because of my son's school schedule and they were very accommodating. Everything was explained clearly during the appt. prior to the procedure. Dr. Ribera made me feel comfortable as he went through my family history questionnaire during the pre-exam. And, after the procedure, he called me personally to give me the results and recommendations for future next steps. When you need to do this, go see Dr. Ribera!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Susan R.San Francisco, CA21592Nov 12, 2019

Ernie is a decent guy (pls. call him "Dr. Ribera."). We're colleagues and acquaintances going way back. He's warm, friendly, kind; traits I don't usually find under one roof in a doctor. He's what I would call the doctor's doctor. Good man.
In good hands,

Yelp deleted my old account and with it went my RAVE review of Dr. Ribera.
Long story short... I accredit Dr. Ribera with having found my Thyroid cancer in 2011. Yes... totally unrelated, but actually not really. I went in to see him for a minor GI issue and he asked if I had any thyroid problems because many times when the thyroid is off, it can affect the GI system.
I said no but he felt my neck anyway and sure enough there was a tiny nodule on my thyroid. So off I went for studies and about a year after my first meeting with Dr. R I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.
So Thank you again Dr. Ribera! I'm now coming up on year 4 s/p total thyroidectomy, cancer's gone and all is well. GI problems are gone too :)
I highly recommend Dr. R as he is very thorough!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gordon P.Belmont, CA084Jun 7, 2017
I have been seeing Dr Ribera for years, and the health care he offers is excellent. That being said, he is clearly a high volume provider, and for that reason Dr Ribera's administrative staff tends to treat you as "just a number".
My issues have been with simply getting refills . . . I was traveling and needed a prescription refilled. I was an hour away from the nearest pharmacy (CVS). CVS and I submitted a refill request that went unanswered for 3 days. I finally called Dr Ribera's office, and they claimed that they never received the refill request . . . fair enough, that sometimes happens. However when I explained my situation and simply asked them to send the refill, they said they would within the hour. Well, a few hours went by, and the CVS still had not received the refill request.
So I called Dr. Ribera's office again to verify that they sent the refill script. The person I spoke to informed me that "we only process prescriptions once a day, it will get submitted by this evening." I again explained my situation that going to the pharmacy is a 2-hour round trip for me, and I really need the script to be there when I arrive at the pharmacy . . . The reply I got from Dr. Ribera's staff this time was, "Sir, we are a very high volume practice, and we simply can not make any exceptions to our process". I asked if there was anything I could do, and the Dr. Ribera's staff member said, "No!". WOW . . .
Finally I asked Dr Ribera's staff member if I had the pharmacy call Dr. Ribera's office, could CVS get refill request from them over the phone. The response was, "[long sigh] . . . Yes".
So in the end, I got my refill, 3 days late and after eight - - yes eight phone calls simply to get my prescription refilled.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
