I had the largest lamb shank ever!!! It was so tasty, it was difficult to keep myself from eating the whole thing, especially since I kept sneaking bits of the veal cheek BBQ from my boyfriends place.

Both dishes were perfectly paired. The lamb came with a lovely polenta and the veal cheeks had a fantastic risotto. The serving lamb shank serving was huge, like I mentioned before. The veal cheeks weren't a huge serving, so if you were starving it wouldn't be enough, but that brings me to the starters.

We ordered the sliced meat plate...it was great but too much for two people, we ended up taking it home with us. All the meats were wonderfully salty. Next time I would order the fries, they are truly shoestring and I have seen lots of people order them.

We also had dessert. The molten chocolate cake with peppermint ice cream was scrumptious. It was warm and gooey with the perfect seasonal touch. We also ordered a gingerbread cake with lemon cream. The tangy cream was a great offset to the gingerbread but I probably wouldn't order it again - the bread was a little tough.

I love the wine selection here and the fact that you can order 1.5, 3.0, and 5.0 oz. pours. Also, the staff tends to have good suggestions. Our server suggested a sparkling pinot noir with the veal cheeks that was a great pairing. My favorite wine is something Chateau Margaux...a lovely red. But the small and well priced pours allow you to try lots of things and be adventurous.

Great brunch.  Especially on a rainy day.  Especially on a rainy day after Thanksgiving when you've been sleeping on in-laws awkward beds and just want comfort food.

We got there early, since we're told it can get quite crowded for brunch.  Everything sounded amazingly good, but I opted for the rosemary ham and fried egg sandwich, with a side of grits.  I don't even remember what Jimmy and Jane got because I could not get enough of those grits.  It was a huge bowl of creamy goodness.  The grits were nice and gritty, even though they were swimming in creamy cheesy sauce, and while a little salty, they did have good flavor.  The rosemary ham was excellent - so aromatic!

I only wish we'd stay until noon to try their mimosas.  But after all that food, we needed to lay down and let it all digest.  Can't wait to go back to try the wine!

I will start off saying that I have only visited this establishment one time. But my experience was not at all what I had hoped. We were originally intrigued by the idea that you could purchase small samples of wine before purchasing a whole glass or bottle. We already had reservations at another restaurant but stopped here first to sample a few wines. When we arrived they had just opened and had very few patrons. The staff seemed more annoyed than attentive to answering our questions. And while they gave off the impression they were well informed of their selection and the proper pronunciation of the wine, they were less than helpful when we had questions.

As far as the food goes, it smelled really good and the descriptions of the items on the menu were very apppealing.

I have not written this restaurant off yet. Maybe this one evening was a fluke.

I'm a sucker for a wine bar. There's just something about going to a bar that specializes in wine specifically that makes it so much better than going to a bar that just happens to have wine on the menu.

The staff here all know there stuff about their wines, and the wines they have available are absolutely fantastic. While I have come in jeans and a t-shirt and not been kicked out, this is the kind of place you would probably want to dress up for, if only a little bit.

Dinner is a bit on the pricy side, but exceptionally good.. they also serve small things to nibble on like cheese and fries.

Vin's pretty well recognized as one of the best restaurants in Raleigh. They've got the best wine selection of any place I've visited by a large margin.

Our server was awesome, he knew I could've cared to ask about the wine, and his recommendation was spot on.

Be prepared to blow some money if you're out here, I think our bill was a bit over $80, but it was definitely worth it for the quality service we had.

I was pleasantly surprised by my evening at Vin, which came highly recommended from a client.  Fair prices, inventive dishes, and attentive staff combined with the wine-bar-meets-modern-cafe feel made for a very enjoyable dining experience.

We started off the evening with pre-dinner drinks -- espresso martinis for me and one of my co-workers, and a shared flight of five wines for two others.  All excellent, and heavy pours.  The waiter was trusted to select which five wines to include in the flights and didn't disappoint.  Even better, he was actually able to talk intelligently about them.

We ordered a cheese plate as an appetizer -- I am still lusting after the templais fleuron.  The cheese plate is the source of my only complaint with Vin, and it's a complaint I find myself having with most restaurants that offer a cheese plate: no one ever seems to be able to tell you which cheese is which.  When I order a cheese plate, I don't just want you to hand me a card with the names of the cheeses on it -- I want you to walk me through each one just as you would a flight of wine.

Anyway, I digress.  Although the food options appeared somewhat limited at first, we soon came to realize there really was something for everyone on the menu.  I was torn between the risotto and the red chicken and ultimately went with the chicken because I'm not a big fan of chantarelles which seemed to be a big part of the risotto dish.  Others in our party ordered the scallops, the ricotta gnocchi and the sausage.

The exceptionally cool staff is worth noting -- everyone seemed young and hip, yet knowledgeable and unpretentious.  Ask for the waiter that looks like Ed Norton.  I would definitely go back to Vin, especially mid-week -- there was no wait.

The only bad thing about discovering places like Vin when we're on the road is that they're so good, we want to go back to them every time.  My urge to explore Raleigh whenever I have a chance to return will take second fiddle to the urge to try another flight of Pinots alongside the amazing scallops.

A group of four of us enjoyed our dinner at Vin, with an adorable Edward Norton-lookalike as our server.  Because it was so cold it was a really slow night, and we were one of only about five tables dining.  The place was a bit lighter than we expected -- blond wood tables, brightly lit -- but it worked.

My boss wasn't happy with his gnocchi, and the drinks and food took a leeeetle too long to come out, hence the dropped star.  But the cheese plate, my scallops, and my co-workers' sausage and chicken were all heavenly.

Plus their special expanded menu of Pinots, available by the taste, the half glass, the glass, or in flights of three or five, rocked my world.  And started me on a drinking spiral that culminated in far too many Captain and Diets at the Hibernian -- but that's a different review.

The plan was to hit Big Ed's at City Market for brunch but guess what?   The place wasn't open so we re-routed over to Enoteca Vin instead.  The restaurant has a very urban feel to it: funky wait staff, high ceilings and small tables lined around the place.  They've also got a small patio in front which would be great in good weather.  The crowd is young, 20 and 30-somethings that typically hang out at S. Glenwood.

I ordered the eggs benedict with pancetta along with a side of fresh fruit and roasted potatoes.  Everything was fresh and yummy though there was definitely a lot of butter in the meal (butter = yummy : ).  Prices were a bit higher than most places ($8 - $12 for breakfast entree) but worth it for the food and good service.  My only slight complaints revolve around the average coffee and limited menu.  I'd definitely like to check out Enoteca Vin for dinner, they've got a half price bottle of wine special on Sundays.  Overall a good spot for a more upscale breakfast in Raleigh!

again, went with the brother on a trip to raleigh. I really haven't had any bad experience there yet. vin had a cool little system for serving wines by the glass, which i caught my self gazing at for prolonged periods of time. As for the food, my memory sucks and it was last year, but i remember i was not disappointed in the least. um...go raleigh, yay.

ok, so this really upset me.

the hours on the door are *posted* to be until 1030 during the week (closed monday i believe). me and my friend showed up at 9:20 on a tuesday night, and the door was locked and one of the servers was inside putting the chairs up and doing closing sidework. the server saw both of us at the door pulling and just kinda gave us the most indifferent look ever. thanks for that. apparently, they just decided to close early one night due to slow business. i sure wish i could do that in the restaurant where i work.

i get that it is slow these days; but if it says on the door open until 1030, don't close up the place at 920. very lame. this lack of consistency really detracts from the overall experience of vin, which is otherwise fine. so if you're wanting to have dinner after 9:00 on a weeknight, despite the fact they say they're open until 10:30, call and just be sure.

I recall when Enoteca first opened prior to my migration to other parts of the country.  It is a great little location with a wonderful wine list and the ambiance is elegant and sophisticated.  It definitely is a place for a wine novice to be introduced to the intricacies of wine tasting and is the correct touch of class to an up and coming area.

This place was amazing!  The wine list is extensive and you can buy in 1.5 oz, 3.0 oz and 5 oz sizes or order a whole bottle.  Also, there is an in-house chef that creates the menu, which are changed regularly, so you won't see things you could order at any other restaurant.  The decor was modern and clean.  I definitely wouldn't go here unless it was a special occassion, though - it kind of screamed expensive!  (I just checked the website, it is - entrees will run you $25+)
