If you are looking for something other than the traditional Osteria, Rosticceria, Pizzeria or Trattoria then El Tiburon might be for you.
I can probably safely say that not many people come to Florence for its Peruvian cuisine, but set away from the hustle and bustle of tourist Florence is a simple Peruvian cafe.
The first thing you notice about El Tiburon is that it resembles a worker's cafeteria rather than a restaurant. Bright stip lighting and simple tables and chairs are probably enough to discourage most passers-by. But on closer inspection you will see most customers are Peruvian or South American cousins. They must know something we don't.
Service is kept to a minimum. Help yourself to a drink from the fridge by the door and the waitress will take your oder. The menu doesn't cater for tourists but does include some pictures for those without any Italian.
Knowing nothing about Peruvian cooking I went for the Lomo Saltado which turned out to be Stir-fried Beef and Potatoes served with rice. The size of the portion took me aback but it was so tasty that the plate was empty in not time. In fact, despite unnecessarily large helpings we all (more-or-less) managed to clear our plates. A testament to the food!
The area where the restaurant is located is somewhat down-at-heel but don't let that put you off. El Tiburon was a real find. Thanks to our friend Richard Burton for taking us there.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Valeria P.Marietta, GA120132Sep 13, 2018
This restaurant has overall good food. I grew up as a Latina in the United States and later moved to italy. It was amazing for me to have a restaurant in Florence that reminded me of my roots. The only downfall with this restaurant is their staff. They are not always very friendly and it always just looked very understaffed to me. If you're willing to get passed that, this is a great Peruvian restaurant I recommend to anyone looking outside of traditional Italian food.

We visited Florence from the US. We have family from El Salvador that live in Florence and they brought us here. We really weren't that hungry, but we ordered the Lomo Saltado. It had great flavor and the meat was tender. We all cleaned our plates. We were in Europe for 20 days and this was our best and probably cheapest meal of the trip.
