El Interior is one of Austin's oldest and most established shops for Mexican clothing and folk art. We carry a wide range of women's clothing (blouses, huipiles, skirts, and dresses from Oaxaca, Guatemala, and more), Men's Guayabera and Guatemalan shirts, colorful, hand-woven textiles, oilcloth, folk art such as Black pottery and Michoacán pottery, clay and wood figures, tin wall art, and other home accessories.

Love this shop...lots of beautiful Mexican embroidery shirts and dresses. Prices are on the high side but worth it for these hard to find styles that were so plentiful and cheap in the 60's and 70's.

So sad to report that this reliably great shop has gone out of business after 40 years of selling great Mexican and Guatemalan imports.

This is exactly what I was looking for!
The perfect shop with a wide array of textiles and accessories.
Not at all overpriced either - believe me!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alyssa C.St. Petersburg, FL187220179Apr 11, 2015
This stuff is gorgeous. In a perfect world, I would have it all. In reality, I'm too poor. But this place really is great- and they take the time to fair trade with the artisans (I briefly heard from the sweet gal working) but from their selection, prices, and vibe- I totally could assume that as well.
I was only there to grab a few papel picado banners, but will now be forever dreaming about the beautiful textiles, jewelry, and dresses.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christine A.Austin, TX117911291262Sep 12, 2012
Coming from a border town, (one I don't go back to at all because I like my head attached to my body, thank you very much) I grew up loving the bright colors and care that went into handmade clothing, jewelry and art created by indigenous people. So, I keep popping in to find a lightweight cotton top here. The small sizes are HUGE. Not huge. HUGE. I think ants made them and, well, of course we would be HUGE to ants.
But, seriously, let's talk true sizes for clothing. I'm not a mini refrigerator.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Alex M.Seattle, WA11540855Oct 24, 2009
Three words: Rolls of Oilcloth.
I'd say at least 50 rolls, fantastically wide, massively colorful, cheerfully cut to order, and priced at $8.75 per yard.
Hello, new tablecloth. You're cute.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - ninja M.San Francisco, CA169134Oct 22, 2006First to Review
This place has crafts from Mexico and (maybe-? )Guatemala Textiles (it was a hottt day for a bay area wimp). A large selection of Oaxaca Artisans from the Aguilar family and also many clothing pieces. Prices are on the high side, but worth it if there is a very very special gift or ocasion, like yourself.

Love this place! They sell lovely blouses, dresses and stuff for the home. The store is homey and not at all pretentious, which is a real plus (I had a bad experience at another shop in Austin which sells similar items, where I was made to feel like a burden to the poor clerk). These folks are warm and helpful and I found just what I was looking for.

I always find something unusual and unique in this store. I've probably purchased at least one Christmas or birthday gift everytime I go. Inventory changes and it seems they're putting more emphasis on clothes than the handcrafted knick knacks I go there for. This is the only place I've ever found the hand cut Mexican paper chains. They happened to have one cut out of colored plastic that looked more durable so I got it for my classroom. Painted tin Christmas ornaments and pottery available. The jewelry is priced on the high side.

I'm short and round so it's tough for me to find blouses that fit. I really wanted something gauzy for the crazy Austin heat. I was a little worried because they do have some pricey items but was able to find 3 things that I love at prices I was happy with. I wish I could give 20 stars to the customer service. It was excellent!

I love visiting this store! The clothing and decor are expensive, but so beautiful. I have a top from here that's very unique and I always get compliments on it.
