El Hefe

Nice Mexican Restaurant in River North. We went here for quick drinks and a bite on a Thursday evening when it was not too crowded. They had nice music playing. We ordered House Margaritas that came in huge glasses that had Li Hing powder and salt on the rim. We also ordered Chips and Salsa - there were 3 types of salsas which all tasted good. But the chips weren't so crispy.

The drinks were okay but overpriced for the actual bar. Service was good, bartenders were friendly.

Definitely come expecting to spend over $100.

Sunday funday loaded! This place was great. Food was amazing! DJ played a great mix of all kids of music!!! Drinks were strong and to the point yet reasonably priced! The atmosphere was great!

This place will not disappoint. Wasn't crowded just walked right in. Lots of things going on, on the street with lots of street parking

Today on a Sunday night me and my friend came in with a positive attitude, we waited by the front bar for about 10 minutes before a blonde bartender rudely wouldn't clean by our section, we then asked to order a drink! She rudely asked for us for money before pouring our drink, my friend was taking her card out and she then yelled and said "I'm not pouring anything until you give me money"
My friend stud there and she looked away, I then saw her roll her eyes at my friend so rude and very unprofessional over a 30$ tab she treated us like we would walk out, when we just got there killed our vibe and we left.
It's not what she said it's how she said it. Hire better staff el Hefe!!!!!

I had heard bad things about this place and my recent visit validated that and more. Service was OK but the nachos I ordered were overly salty and almost inedible. I ordered a Woodford Reserve on the rocks which was decent.
Then came the check. We were a party of 3 and still got slapped with a gratuity charge. Nothing on the menu mentioned this. In addition we were initially charged a 6 dollar venue fee- whatever that is. It was removed from our final checks but not after haggling the sleazy manager for over 15 minutes. And for the icing on the cake, we were all charged 3.00 per drink for ordering on the rocks. The explanation we received was that because the drink contained ice, it was more than a standard pour? I dont think so- I won't be coming back.

I would not waste my time or money here. Made reservations for my birthday, got there and nobody was greeting us at all. The workers allowed some other people to take our original table and we had to be moved. But worst of all was the customer service, we were sitting for probaly 20+ minutes before someone came to offer us any assistance. Nobody wanted to be at work, clearly.

As for the food, carne asada fries were good. The tacos were not. The drinks are okay but I've had better at chain restaurants.

Then the bill comes and its damn near $500 with all kinds of added fees that are NOT made clear when you make a reservation or when you sit down.

In my opinion, Casa Tequila would be better for your pockets, taste buds, and overall fun having time.

This place should just become the nightclub it so desperately wants to be and leave the rest of it alone.

I was the sober driver and asked for water after my wife paid $85 in drinks. Bartender said she can charge $7 for Fiji water. I said tap is fine. She kicked me out for wanting free water. This bar is terrible. Don't waste your time or money, and BE WARNED due to this - they do NOT encourage responsible drinking. Also, FYI: they charge an extra 4% on all transactions.

I should have listened to the reviews, not the music blasting from the spot... DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE

The food is gross. All processed, frozen food, with more salt that you can imagine. I took one bite of my "americano" taco and spit it out. The amount of salt is uncanny.

Shots from the happy hour menu are unavailable, aka they try to sell expensive liquor to you. If you don't have the liquor in stock have a substitute or remove it from the menu.

Booth seats were ripped and table was dirty. Service was terrible as well. No one was attentive other than the bus boy and that's not even his job.

I'm not sure how they're still in business.

We had a BLAST enjoying some College Basketball.
Lauren the bartender was awesome and attentive.
The food was truly fantastic.. that crispy cauliflower was absolutely our FAV..

Un lugar elegante nunca tiene buen sazón, no me gustó que la chica que nos llevó a la mesa nos barría de pies a cabeza por qué íbamos vestido en pans jajaja veníamos de un viaje en carretea y nos tocó comer algo y fuimos a dar ahí , el mesero excelente pero se sentía las miradas por qué todo mundo iba con sus mejores garras por eso no me gustó y no estaba tan bueno
