I tell you - I drove by several times telling myself, "That looks really interesting! I've got to go in there!"
One month went by . . . saw people in there. some buying coffee, some what looked like cookies.
Another month - rode my bike by - Darn! No money...next time.
I was getting this really built up in my mind, I think.
I thought on the little coffee shops in California I'd gone to on vacations; the cafes and coffeehouses in Boston...Central Perk of "Friends." Okay, so I knew it wouldn't be Central Perk, but really?
I decided I'd go in one day after dropping kids off at school & before starting the day's running around...I really needed some caffeine. Wow.
I walk in to find a guy sleeping in one of the over stuffed chairs. He mumbles something about a headache, welcomes, me, and asks what I'd like. I ask what he has and am told something like, "Well, basically coffee, we have flavors and its 1.99 for a small a $$$ for a medium and $$$ for a large." The $$$s are substituted in, because once I heard $1.99 for an approximately 12 oz. of plain black coffee - with no refills, I went numb. Then he says, "If you want an espresso shot or latte, it's a dollar more." A Dollar - MORE?
I've spent this time looking into the display case at gorgeous looking pastries, cookies, etc. -- was never asked if I wanted any of them -- they were comparably priced with the coffee anyway, so - no. Then I was informed the "chef" was at the store buying food, so there wasn't any hot food yet. Hmmm....
I bought the small plain coffee -- like I said, I needed the caffeine -- went to the condiments table and found no liquid creamer (something I'd expect to find for a $1.99 cup of plain coffee in a small town), and only one sugar substitute -- one I would not use in hot liquid as it turns bitter. I added a little sugar and powder creamer. Sat down and tried to drink it. It was okay coffee - but, honestly? I could've gotten just as good a cup down the street at the convenience store - different flavors, flavored creamers &/or half-n-half, and - for the price - 12 oz. more coffee, too.
I guess the place is good for people who want to sit down and drink an expensive cup of coffee with friends, or with the shop's 'barista.' Since I couldn't have the food or baked goods, I'll have to check those out another time - like after a payday.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
