My partner Laura lived at the lockwood ave apartments for over 2.5 years. Simone comes with the bait and switch. She won't give you your deposit back via mail, zelle or paypal and asks for your venmo even though thats p2p. We have examples of her saying she sent the depo back "a few days after laura left the apt." no tracking??? cant pay $10 extra? no signature honey????! then says she cant zelle and wont paypal or check her email on a regular basis. In the state of CA landlords have 21 days to give back the deposit. she has airbnbs in the lockwood ave apts. one threatened me and the police came cause i had "radios in my apt listening to her" i told simone and she more worried about profits saod if it happened again it she would deal with it. 0 stars stay away.

Hi Annika - The building in question is in a trust for social justice and wildlife, but I'm sorry for asking if I could send via venmo - it's just the fastest and easiest and your girlfriend was emailing me on Thanksgiving when I was out of the office and don't check that email on my phone. When I got to a computer the Saturday after Thanksgiving I saw lots of emails from her and I responded quickly. Some of our tenants prefer venmo. The woman who called the police about the radios was not our tenant and she did not have my information. She was the girlfriend of the tenant and as such, did not go through our background procedures. You too, are the partner of our tenant, so may not be aware of the rigorous background screening we do for all long term tenants.

Initially, I liked the apartments offered by Dwell especially in photos, but the property manager Simone is someone I would not like to do business with. Definitely warm in the beginning, but will switch up to being unresponsiveness and not understanding once you sign the lease. A simple maintenance request has taken a quarter of the year to be addressed. There is a lack of mutual respect between tenant and owner. Rent is sky high and she ignores you hoping that you forget about the issue. Business practices here are unethical and frustrating. Simone property manager/owner could be more professional, disorganized, and less judgmental. I have been avoiding putting a review because Simone fights everyone in every yelp review, very unprofessional, but it is important for others to hear this. My suggestion is to be more open-minded to serve the community better.
ATTENTION: Listen to all the personal warnings in the reviews for Dwell mgt before you sign a lease with them!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Daniel! I'm not sure which building you are in, but are you sure that we manage your building? We use appfolio to do maintenance and while a separate team handles the maintenance requests, I do personally overlook them to make sure they are done timely, and I've looked over my maintenance requests since December and I have no maintenance requests open... We do have a few open right now but they are from this past week and we are coordinating with the tenants regarding. Of course - if you do have a request that has been reported but not handled, please open a ticket in appfolio and it will be handled in hours/days, not weeks/months. I'm sorry if something got missed!

I just rec'd a notification 2 years after I posted my review. I've lived in LA on and off for years, never an issue with management companies there or NYC. But this manager bold face lies, I NEVER rec'd my deposit back but who cares looks like I dodged a bullet with her

We do not rent apartments sight unseen and that is explained in our leasing procedures and we already had a number of applicants who had applied and I encouraged you not to book a flight out here. I would never say I can't stand hipsters, and I did refund your app fee, though we were not required to.
Feb 14, 2019Previous reviewTypical bait and switch management company. I hate to say it but the owner doesn't like young adults that can afford her properties. I had made arrangements to fly out and see a place and she basically ended up telling me she couldn't stand hipsters and to cancel my flight. She said she would refund my money and never did. Stay away from this company unless your old world and have lived in the neighborhoods she manages.

Been living in my 139 St Andrews apartment for almost a year and I just wanted to leave a review because there isn't that much feedback for this management. For this reason, I was so close to turning down my apartment because I thought the listing on Dwell Management's website was too good to be true and had a feeling that something was bound to go wrong if I signed the lease. BUT I'm so glad I made the decision to move in because my apartment ended up being exactly what I wanted! It's so difficult to find quaint flats these days; everything is super Ikeafied and sterile, but I feel like Dwell has a good eye with preserving a unit's charm and respecting the integrity of its original architecture. Everything from the white walls, high ceilings, huge windows, bright natural lighting, hardwood floors, mantel, light fixtures, and tonal backsplash makes my apartment very unique. I currently have Gigi as my manager and we have a great relationship, she's super chill about texting whenever I need anything. When I was first looking to move into the apartment, I was working part-time because of college, so my monthly income wasn't enough (however I had money saved up for 2 months rent), but I told Gigi that once I graduated, my job was going to turn full-time. She was super understanding and contacted my boss to make sure that arrangement was true, and I was able to lock down my apt on the condition that I put down a deposit and half instead of the usual double deposit.
As far as logistics/response times go, everything runs smoothly. One time I had an issue with my toilet and Gigi called maintenance right away and they came over within 30 mins to prevent an overflow, luckily it happened at 3pm/weekday so maintenance was on the clock. Aside from emergencies, everything takes the usual amount of time to get fixed, but I've never really run into issues.
When it comes to location, the apartment is right in the middle of K-town and Larchmont village so you get the best of both worlds. You can walk towards Western and be super central to the urban terrain of crowds, public trans, markets, liquors, post office, affordable Asian/Mexican food OR you can walk away from Western and take a calm, isolated stroll into the rich Larchmont neighborhood and see all the beautiful historic mansions and walk to Larchmont Village for a more upscale/trendy vibe. Because the apartment is right next to all those huge family homes, there's a ton of street parking since everyone has a private driveway, and luckily I qualified for a district parking pass to park on the private streets adjacent to Larchmont.
Overall, my experience living on St Andrews has been amazing and I'm definitely going to live here for another year. I put up some images of my unit so you can get a feel of the interior :-)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura N.Los Angeles, CA062Nov 27, 2021
As a tenant for 2.5 years I can tell you that Simone is a horrible person and horrible business owner. She is very bad at responses via email and is currently retaining my security deposit even though she owes me it as she confirmed it via email. She has made it clear that she did not deduct anything from my deposit and she mailed it to me but I never got it and clearly on her end it was never cashed. She then offered to Zelle me which I gave her the info and she said she couldn't Zelle me the full amount for some reason then asked for my Venmo which is peer to peer which is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Basically comes in with the sweet landlord approach and is actually a slumlord. She has airbnbs in 1 year lease buildings. She says that airbnb has the same "background screening" as normal tenants and that that all airbnbs are for 30 days but that's not true. They usually stay way under 30 days. One airbnb guest who shared a wall with me who had the police called on them more than 3 times and was having a mental breakdown said I had radios in her apt and wouldn't let me sleep via pacing and pounding on our shared wall. Simone cares more about profit than tenants. Can't wait to see how she responds to this review!

Laura - I want to thank you for being a great tenant for 2.5 years. Most of that tenancy was over a pandemic and as such, I've never had the opportunity to meet you personally. We sent your full deposit within 5 days of your move out. Unfortunately, when we send checks, we need to cancel them before issuing them electronically. You notified me while I was traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday and I told you I'd love to immediately send you electronically, but I couldn't send large amounts via zelle due to some limitations on our banks end. You accused me of lying about this as you'd received a large amount from someone else. We can send large amounts to verified zelle people but not for new people. As for your experience with the girlfriend of one of our tenants - I'm so sorry she was having a mental breakdown but she was not actually on our lease, but was sometime guest of our tenant. I could not elaborate more on our efforts to handle that matter as it was a private matter and I believed the girlfriend was an otherwise kind person going through a difficult time. It was not you who reached out to me about this matter, but another tenant, and I reached out to you to ask you your experience so I could resolve in appropriately. We do not have airbnb guests who stay under 30 days.

This company listed an open house yesterday in Echo Park. I immediately called and spoke with an assistant named GiGi and asked to clarify the pet policies as the listing description clearly said "PET FRIENDLY!!" but then below under amenities said, No Cats, No Dogs. This was the first question I asked this woman on the phone as it a complete waste of time for me to view properties that do not allow animals. She told me the building was pet friendly and asked that I text her to schedule the showing. I texted and again wrote to be extremely clear "I have a small dog." She immediately responded with a link to schedule the appointment.
I requested to leave work early to view the apartment, as did my fiancee to walk up to a property where I was embarrassingly told I could not even enter the premises because I had my dog with me. Once I confronted her on the fact that I even texted her that I had a dog, she responded with "Yea, but I am sorry. This unit is actually not dog friendly." I had even texted her in the thread that I was running late and one text above that I informed her of my dog (that is a certified service animal).
I cannot begin to explain what a waste of time and how unprofessional the entire experience was start to finish. Will never rent from this property management company. A shame too as the place looked lovely.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hey - I'm sorry you found our pet policy confusing. As explained to you multiple times, we have insurance restrictions for pets, and we can make exceptions and frequently do. The reason Gigi did not allow you in the property was because the current tenant, who still lives there until August, has a cat and did not want a dog in her apartment. Gigi even offered to hold your dog while you looked at the place, and you got angry and yelled expletives at her. I asked some other applicants who viewed the place while you did and they verified Gigi's version of events. I own Dwell, and I own the beautiful property you viewed for which we had 25+ applications. In twenty years of doing this, I've never heard a story quite like yours.... Either way, I'm sorry you refused to leave your dog outside for five minutes to see the place but we cannot force a current tenant to allow an unknown dog into her apartment, and quite a few dog lovers applied after speaking to us about our breed restrictions.

I live in a dwell property. It's beautiful and I've made it my own, however my property manager is more than difficult and very unaccommodating. I dread having a maintenance issue because the management is so unhelpful. I recommend the property but not the service.
When I first moved in, my landlord walked in on me while I was indecent. Another time, the maintenance technicians showed up without warning and started working on my closet while I was trying to shower and get ready for an interview. A third time, a air conditioning technician showed up on a Saturday morning at 9am without warning. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there...Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi! I looked back through all our maintenance correspondence, and your complaint regarding our maintenance staff. The first time when Miguel knocked on your door, he wanted to see if was a good time to fix your request. We responded in less than an hour of you making the request because we had guys working at the apartment next door. We had attempted to call you first, and though that you would appreciate prompt service. When you were so upset, I offered you a rent credit. I did not get a response. The second time, Jen who was at the building, received your request on the phone, and knocked on your door... She was not intruding in your apartment in any way. The third time (AC), you had actually scheduled that appointment directly with Jon. Thanks for your feedback, but having looked at the records in detail, I think we made a mistake ONCE, which we followed up with an offer of a rent credit.

Just moved into a Dwell property a week ago near Silver Lake. It was really easy dealing with Dwell and I was able to complete the application process, pay all move in costs online which is great for a busy person like me.
I like that I also have the option of paying my rent online either through banking or with a credit card. While I have not yet met Jen or Simone in person, from the very beginning of the renting process to the present, both have been very responsive and helpful. They worked with my desired move in date and got me in earlier, which I really appreciated.
Love the immaculate and well designed studio apartment I'm in and the well cared for building itself and as a tenant, feel I'll be in good hands with Dwell over the next year.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Christopher F.Knight, Vancouver, Canada01May 23, 2020
If there was an award for the worst property management in BC, I would have to give these folks the title. This management company is extremely good at creating falsehood narrative and failed to deliver many services that I paid through my monthly strata fee. Do your homework diligently before you hire them or contact me personally and I will give you a full tour of how poorly they manage my building from the front to the back of the building. They will take your money but they won't return your call or response to your email when you need them. There are so many negative reviews about them online so therefore one has to ask yourself, is this a coincidence or they really bad? You cannot deny and say that all the reviews here are a bunch of lies because I believe people are telling the truth. People work really hard for their money and they are paying the monthly strata fee to this management company that has a long history of producing bad result. They create so much stress and headache for a LOT of people. They simply don't care at the end of the day! Stay away from this company at all cost.
