If this place is a 'historic hotel,' I'd hate to see our history.
This place is a great lesson in 'you get what you pay for.' Located right near an abandoned train depot on the edge of town, this old hotel offers up the bare minimum at the cheapest prices you'll find in Southern NY.
When you get there, good luck making sense of where to park your car. The parking lot is a nondescript gravel lot across the street that might as well have a sign that says 'MUG CAR HERE.' Once you walk in, you'll find a bored employee watching NBC prime time on a television from 1989 and eating Chinese food. The complimentary coffee she'll inevitably offer you looks like the spat tobacco of a baseball player.
Walking through the hotel floors, it expands in odd directions and feels like it never ends. It's not really a nice hotel, more like one of those functional lodges for boy scouts or church groups. The rooms themselves have the usual disgusting details: pubes in the sheets (check), cum stains on the outer sheet (check), a non-smoking room that smells like cigarette smoke (check), a cold water sink handle that doesn't work (check), dirty bathroom light (check).... and so on.
If you want to have cybersex, the wifi password is their phone number.
Go if you're poor or don't care.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dan L.Rochester, NY1141Apr 20, 2013
This is my second visit to the Dudley. The staff is welcoming, pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast buffet for $5 was everything you'd expect and more for the price. The Friday fish fry is classic enough for any recovering Catholic to relive their childhood. The unique characters that frequent this place are a far cry from the triteness you'd find in a Steven Spielberg movie. If romance is what you're looking for the charm of this old place worked for me and my companion, both times. When I read the previous reviews my response is - if you want bourgeois, be prepared to pay for it but don't complain about a very reasonably priced place like the Dudley with some real atmosphere. I have no doubt you'd be delighted by the lure, charm, magic and blandness of a Holiday Inn Express!

A few friends and I stayed at the Dudley Hotel for a show at the Seneca Allegany casino as all rooms were booked at the casino and the nearby Holiday Inn Express.
Not knowing what to expect on our way down, we saw a sign on the 219 in Ashford for "Haunted hotel tours at the Dudley Hotel". Nice. When we arrived the lobby was full of people waiting for the haunted hotel tour, and the friendly woman at the desk was surprised we were actually there to stay. She informed us that the bar in the hotel had karaoke and was open till 2am, and that there would be a complimentary breakfast. We tried neither.
The elevator to the 3rd floor was small and slow, and upon exiting it onto the third floor we were greeted with a Shining-esque carpet in the hall, flourescent lights, and a smell similar to an old recliner cushion from a basement rec-room.
The room was a bit tired and looked rather 70s-ish, but was a decent size, and was pretty clean. In the bathroom was more Shining decor. A friend complained of a lack of hot water but I didn't find this to be the case, perhaps clearer instructions were needed with the shower.
The casino provided a 24/7 free shuttle which came promptly , a nice plus. McDonald's is a 2 mile walk, should you be interested in any late night snacks.
In the end, we did not experience any hautings, other than the oppressive old-smell that permeated everything.
This hotel might be an ok option for a few friends on some sort of outdoors or cheap casino trip and you have a sense of humor, but avoid it if you're looking for a romantic getaway or other options are available.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stephanie C.Ravenna, OH03Feb 24, 2013
For $90 a night we weren't expecting much but the appearance of the hotel was initially appalling. After the initial shock, I warmed up to the Dudley. It was clean an basic but was an acceptable place to sleep. The hot water didn't always work but it was only 20 min from Holiday Valley which was out destination and weekend plans. We enjoyed the bar Friday night and had a great time. The five dollar breakfast and our interaction with Ben was notable and appreciated. All in all we got what we paid for. We had fun but probably wouldn't go back.

There is nothing good I can say about this hotel. I checked into room 212, which hadn't been redecorated since the 1960s. The blue toilet had neither lid nor back, and squirted water on my hand when I flushed. The only outlet in the bathroom requires you to stretch an electrical cord across the open toilet - not safe. The curtain doesn't cover the whole window so be ready to give the neighbors a good peep show at night. The whole second floor reeks of secondhand smoke even though it's a non-smoking floor (as indicated by the many signs). The elevator is a tacky gold with lots of names carved in it just like middle school bathroom stalls. The parking lot is poorly lit. I have no idea where they got the pictures of the rooms for the web. I guess there's one good room there somewhere. Save your money and go somewhere else.
