With so many bars and restaurants either closing or still being temporary offline, it's nice to know that a few solid bars still exist in Little Italy. Here at the Drum & Monkey, you've got a mix between a dive bar and a college town locale that's got some great deals.
My friend from out of town was visiting so we decided to spend the afternoon tossing back a few beers and biting into some bar snacks. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and made sure we were taken care of during our visit.
Aside from some standard cheap drafts, they've got some fantastic appetizers. In particular, their Mac N' Cheese bites were killer. Fried balls of delicious home goodness that you can dip with a side of marinara sauce. I imagine ranch being a very viable alternative as well.
The environment was chill and the snacks and drinks were solid. I'd definitely drum to this beat again in the future.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 5, 2018
Went here with a friend/date on a Saturday night and it was loud and crawling with young adults (early 20's). I think their was a bday party going on.
There's only a beer menu (I don't drink beer), but they will make cocktails for you if you ask. My friend had the fish tacos and just said they were okay and we both agreed the fries were bad.
If I was younger I would probably like this spot better.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - David Z.Chicago, IL277115263Feb 3, 2020
Nice little dive bar with dark mood lighting. I love around here so we usually come after class or at night when we want to chill. This isn't a bar that gets wild but a more lowkey mellow on with shuffle board. Drink selection is nice and the deals are pretty good. We ordered the disco tots, we weren't expecting stellar food but it was quite tasty. Can't really go wrong with tots dressed with cheese, bacon , sour cream, and jalapenos. Jalapenos were a nice touch. Only issue is the tots were piping hot in some areas and cold in other areas. Definitely, wasn't ideal temperature but was decent nonetheless.

Fun place to grab a casual after work beer or hang out for a game. They put the sound on for games, bartenders are polite and talkative. They also have some good specials, both food and drinks.
Overall this is a good place to hang out for a casual time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle S.Chicago, IL5080397Dec 21, 2018
I have never had a bad experience in this bar. In fact, I've had some amazing experiences! Even when they are hosting events, the staff are always so nice and do their best to be attentive.
Happy hour has reasonably priced, solid beers and apps. There is a TON of space for big parties, or smaller tables/bar space for a more intimate feel. The pretzel with beer cheese is out of this world, and pairs greatly with everything else on the menu. Overall, a nice, casual spot to hang out any time of day.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rosa F.Los Angeles, CA10134120Sep 6, 2018

I came after work to support my work-wife's birthday, my first visit here on a Friday evening. It wasn't too busy until around 9-10pm when a wedding rehearsal party came through. Seems like a classic, friendly neighborhood down-to-earth joint with basic beer and bar snacks. I had some shots and a beer, the tater tots were great after all that. I usually don't care for wings but had some here: typically fatty/gristly/messy, reminding me why I don't do them much. There was one major detractor to this place that may be by the design: the first thing that hit me on arriving was toilet/bathroom stench. The smell was strong enough that I was bothered by it, and it wasn't so subtle, and persisted quite some time before I could drown it out. The mens room door was open and ajar to the main area which probably explained it, the women's was closed and in the back. They really need a smell monitoring of some sort or better bathroom care to prevent this, makes me think twice about coming back as a newbie.

This little place is a gem on Taylor St.
Great place, especially on Fridays/Saturdays with DJ Myth, the place turns into a dance party! Fun bartenders and attentive manager.
It's fun to come here, play shuffleboard and drink with friends with dope music playing in the background. Their burgers are great for recovery too!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Natalie D.Chicago, IL400378289Jun 20, 2017
I never went to a traditional college (Mount Holyoke is.. well, you'll have to google it) but I imagine this to be a quintessential college bar!
Booths made like a church pew -- check!
young bartenders and young, noisy crowd -- check!
Hip, cool music playing too loudly -- check!
Back door that leads to a back lot with pick-nick benches and ash trays -- check!
And if that won't sell ya, they have Malort.
It's like a divey college bar right out of the movies :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
