Mr. Dominach started TKD on Jan. 2nd, 1991 (he was 9). With 22 years of experience, he finds it easy to relate to students of every age group. All of our instructors are at least a 1st Degree Decided Black Belt, and they've been a part of the school for at least a year before entering our instructor program. This is a Nationally Certified Program that all TA schools follow. It is very detailed, with 4 levels of certification, which takes a minimum of 1.5 years to complete. But even after reaching the highest level, we stress and require continuing education (both locally and nationally) so that our instructors can be the best. Independence, KY is a great community, and the attitude of the families involved has helped create an atmosphere that makes DTA a special place. It's your home away from home.

I received an email from DTA today and I realized I never reviewed this academy although I had intentions of doing so years ago.
Our son, Luke, attended DTA for a few years. He was diagnosed with Asperger's around the age of 4 years old and we were instructed to start him on medications. We disagreed and began occupational and speech therapy with our school district. We began looking for extracurricular activities he could participate in so we checked out DTA. We had concerns because at the time he was barely verbal and couldn't follow much instruction. We spoke with Mr. D about his diagnosis but also wanted to make sure that Luke was held accountable and treated, for the most part, like any other student.
He loved it! Mr. D and his staff were incredibly gracious and much to our surprise Luke began learning patterns quickly having to remember several moves and techniques in order to move through different levels of skill. Several times he wasn't able to complete patterns to move through different belts and Mr. D didn't make exceptions if he didn't make it. However, he always encouraged him through his missteps and I witnessed Mike do this with other kids as well.
Luke will soon be 17 yrs old and we are looking at colleges this spring. He has always viewed his years with DTA with fondness and it is clear that he was provided mentorship through several instructors as well as Mr. D.
The money spent with DTA is really inconsequential for as much as we received in return. We can't recommend this place enough!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Eric T.Walton, KY0501Aug 7, 2021
After just over two months our 8 year old daughter has achieved so much here.
The staff is amazing and they love sharing this art with children.
Mr.D and Mr.Z have dedicated their lives to helping children learn self confidence respect and discipline.
The price is very very reasonable with unlimited amount of classes you can attend per week
It is important to remember that this is an art and requires dedication to achieve greatness , but with the staff at DTA it is possible.
Let Mr.D and his team give you and your whole family a gift they can share for a lifetime it will be one of the best things you can ever doHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lydia M.OH, OH010Jun 3, 2022
My son absolutely loves these classes! He tries to teach me the moves at home, which is a disaster, but you can tell he has been taught well and learned to love it. It's a positive atmosphere for everyone.

Our family spent a great deal of money (1500+) at this TWD school. Mike is not a great instructor, nor a good person.
I do NOT recommend. Find another school.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Shelby P.Newport, KY1531931218Feb 19, 2019
I started my kids here 2 weeks ago and they love it! The instructors are very patient and take their time with each kid. Some how they remember every kids name and it really makes them feel welcome. We signed up during the special and it was a great deal but the prices aren't bad at all even without the special. The kids really love it and I love watching them. You should definitely try it if you are looking for a good outlet for your kid or yourself!

As an adult, I was looking for something to help keep me in shape. Going to the gym just wasn't my thing, I wanted something that was more social and guided. So I decided to check out the place next to Kroger with the big KARATE sign over the door, and I'm incredibly glad I did. I've been taking TKD for about eight months now, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I wasn't made to feel self conscious as a thirty something guy starting as a white belt, all of the instructors were awesome to work with. Each class is different, so you don't get into a boring routine, and with testing for the next rank every two months, you have a feeling of accomplishment. I can't recommend the school highly enough. I've made new friends, learned new things, and gotten in better shape in the process.

After watching my daughter kick it for a year, I started TKD Lite then quickly pulled my daughter into TKD classes. I really enjoy the nurturing atmosphere. The instructors offer helpful criticism and NEVER in a biting way. I can truly tell they only want to make me better. Nearly 1 1/2 years later, I'm gaining confidence and belts!
