      I recommend this DMV at 850 Widgeon Rd in Norfolk, VA to everyone I meet locally. I've gone here two times to get my VA real ID with my new last name. Each time I didn't have a prior appointment but was able to be helped quickly through the walk-in line. The first time I visited, I had all my necessary documents except for my passport/birth certificate but the person that helped me was kind about it. It's awful and frustrating when you have to wait at a DMV for an hour plus and then are rudely told you don't have all the necessary documents and are dismissed. Fortunately, there was none of that at this DMV. Each time I went, I stood in the walk-in line for about 15 minutes max and was helped at a booth by a kind employee.
      The second time, I came back with all my documents and was in-and-out within an 1 and 15 minutes.
      The staff is friendly and their system for helping people is effective and organized.

      First of all, make an online appointment!
      This is truly the best way to get in and out of the DMV in record time. Show up 15 minutes prior and scan the QR code at the entrance. Take a seat and you will be called fairly quickly. We were called a few minutes prior to our actual appointment time. Use the online information ahead of time to have the proper documents with you. The customer service agent who helped me to get my 84 year old father his drivers license was knowledgeable, fast, and kind. We both left feeling accomplished without spending forever waiting. Thank you DMV!

      Amazing customer service! Despite some of the bad reviews posted, I had an excellent experience here! I think it's much better now that they are doing appointments. They also take walk-ins, but they have plenty of appointments open.

      I came in early and got finished with my transaction by the time my actual appointment was scheduled for. Customer service was great, too!

      This had to be the most painless visit to a department of motor vehicles I've ever had.. The service here was outstanding. They handled my issues with speed and dedication and of high merit to the Virginia department of motor vehicles.

      Lucky for me this DMV isn't as retro as the ones that I'm used to going to. However I had to go back home to get documents I needed for an ID because I didn't know I needed a passport or birth certificate. I should've known! I was frustrated when I came back because there was a long line, but the line moved quickly. I got all the way up to my letter/number being called just to learn that I needed two paper forms of proof of residence in order to get a Real ID. The guy who was helping me was really patient, resourceful, and kind though which was refreshing. He helped me to schedule an appointment online for next week. I was out of there in less than an hour so overall not a bad experience!

      How do people drive around when they're tags are two years to one year expire and not get caught in the DMV don't do anything

      I came here on Saturday morning to register a '92 Jeep Wrangler... was in and out in about an hour, maybe less. HANDS DOWN THE BEST service I have ever seen at a motor vehicle establishment. These people are shining examples of civil servants, polite and helpful the whole way through. If you have a problem with them, it probably was caused by you. If you treat these people with a bit of decency I can guarantee you it will go a long way here.

      As a longtime Norfolk resident, I remember dreading visits to this DMV, knowing it would be 2 hours of my life I'd never recoup for seemingly remedial tasks. Some aspects have improved but some things remain unchanged.

      Arrived on Tuesday at 440p to register my daughter's vehicle. I researched required info online beforehand; gathered, completed and brought it with me (VA title, drivers license, bill of sale). Immediately corralled into an information line upon entry (there's an express line for simple things). There, after waiting your turn, you're given a number related to your task, then instructed to wait for it to be called. I was F137, the main monitors showed F130 being served.

      Waited over 45 minutes before a supervisor came out, noticed me sitting there forever, asked me what I needed, asked me my number, then asked an employee not taking numbers if she was still on the clock. She indeed was, so I finally got the "service" I should have received way earlier, when she saw me sitting there in the nearly empty waiting room.

      I was polite and warm but she said very little, clearly bothered that I was there. Charged me 100% personal property on what should have been prorated (Sept purchase), especially since the previous owner already paid it for the year. I brought this up but she said "umm, that's the fee." 25 minutes and $140 later, on a 2001 vehicle, I was able to leave but had to exit out of side doors since all others locked at 5p.

      Not 2 hours but definitely 70 minutes of my life I won't get back. Necessary evil....

      Although I didn't have the required document for the ID.., I'll go back on Saturday. The people that I interested with were nice. Have you a feeling of wanting to go back. Great customer service skills. See you soon again DMV!! I'm too tired to come back today.

      This DMV was recommended by our daughter & am glad we followed her advice. We're new to Norfolk (from NY) and had no problem obtaining new licenses and registration. Staff were great-professional and friendly.
