Twenty plus years ago. My wife (at the time girlfriend ) used to brag about Deandas rum cake. Well. I bragged that my mom could "out bake any bakery" and I promised her the very best run cake ever. Home made by my mom. I called my mom who said something to the effect of.."huh!? I never made one before but it can't be that hard."
A week later I bring a cake to my friends house and we proceed to try to choke down the most god awful version of a rum cake anyone had ever had. Full stop. Ultimately my mom said to me "it's very hard to make a yummy rum cake."

Anyways. Flash forward to now and I ask
My wife of twenty years. "Whatcha want for your birthday ?!"
Her answer ? "To love rum cake again. Your moms rum cake ruined it for me and I haven't had the courage to try another rum cake. I want a GOOD RUM CAKE. Like from Deandas. "

So I called on Wednesday and ordered an
8 person cake for Sunday. Cake was fair priced. Beautiful. And so yummy !! My wife says her faith in rum cake is restored and Deandas has righted a twenty year old wrong.

      Good on you Deandas !

      The pastries are spot on.

This is where I don't give it a five star review. Customer service is horrible.

      There is no patience.

They have a look of despair, like they don't want to be working.

      borderline rude service.

If you like gray customer service, don't even bother going in here !

If you can stomach the not so friendly service and you're yearning to try some authentic Italian pastries. This is the place for you.

The ambience is mediocre. The pastries are great !

I've been a loyal customer to Diana's over 40 years.
Now that they're hiring cheap help, result is immediate.
In the last week alone we've bought 2 cakes for birthdays and over 20 pastries.
Today came in, there's new young employee with an attitude. Made me wait for quite a while even though she saw me (alone) waiting. She was purposely doing anything except at least acknowledging a paying customer.
Finally she asks me "what do you want?"
I pointed at two pastries and she got aggravated that I asked for a specific slice which was a next one in the row anyway. She says "this one? You have to have this specific one?"
Anyway, not only she completely ruined my experience of buying from Diana's, she lost a very long time customer for them and I run a very established business and I will mention to customers about my today's experience.
There are many fine bakeries around here but I feel terrible that whoever is in charge doesn't even know that their help making company lose established, loyal customers.
By the way, there was another, older lady who's always polite but even she didn't reprimand young employee for arrogance and rude speech to me.
      Very sad.

Old fashioned cakes, visually and taste wise, that cost too much. 80s vibes. I wish they'd update some of their offerings. Then I can support this local business more.

Notice that the staff is not very friendly to seniors! The food sometimes can be a little day old as well. Not as fresh. The place is self dining, is not well kept. The coffee creamer is always empty. When asking to refill, you only get back in return only enough for two more customers to fill their coffee with creamer. That is definitely a sign that this business is loosing money but overall customers. The Latin ladies that work here need to be respectful with one another and help others out...No background music and you can definitely hear employees gossip and personal problems.

I've only tried the almond torte. I have not been to the bakery. The torte was magical!! It's a dense crumb, with a strong almond flavor that isn't that fake chemically tasting almond. It's topped with almonds and powdered sugar. The bottom has very thin layer of raspberry and the very base is phyllo. It was perfect for breakfast with coffee. Not too sweet, the flavor was amazing.

These cupcakes are tasty. Thanks for my mother-in-law ordered these cupcakes for my baby shower. It's a big cupcake even for an adult. Thanks for my baby shower host to pick up them.

I got the chocolate horn. I asked for a plate so i can eat there. She said she didn't have one. Offered me a box. I got a bag and used it as a plate so i can eat inside. Then i see this couple comes in, orders, and they get a plate. Por que? Horn was not fresh as the one in the Mission bakery. It's nice they have seats.
