We are intently focused on two types of Yoga only...Ashtanga and Vinyasa. All of our staff were first students and due to their diligent practice, were then individually selected to train to teach the DY method, by the founder of Detroit Yoga. Our students receive clear and concise instruction, individual support and guidance, as well as a very unique and unparalleled environment to practice and learn in.

I bought a package of classes through Groupon, but didn't go back after the first class.

This place is for hard core yoga people, not novices like myself. You are assigned your spot in the room. No socks are permitted. And don't even think about bringing your water bottle in with you.

More importantly, there isn't a hint of instruction. He calls out the poses in "yoga-ese," and the hard core people snap into action. As for me, who has no damned clue what the words meant, I was left to scramble behind, trying to duplicate what they were doing. Poorly.

The "instructor"/owner is not remotely friendly. If he is seeking additional clientele, his aloofness, if not downright hostility, certainly isn't helping his cause.

Seems like this guy/place is a covid denier and kind of pushy with his yoga style too. Sounds really healthy!

This is a super intense yoga experience. If you love a boot camp feel to a yoga studio this is for you. This is a really small studio so if you are claustrophobic or like a lot of space during your practice, this maybe is not the right fit. There is also no music and the instructor does not allow water during class. There is a small room up front to store your stuff and then a bathroom and small changing area in the back if you are coming straight from work.

I only went twice and both times I felt like I got a really good work out but it was not a warm and fluffy experience. This dude takes yoga seriously! There are different classes for different experience levels and I am 100% positive that the regulars at the studio absolutely LOVE this studio.

I got a good deal with a Groupon and I would definitely recommend taking advantage if you want to give this place a shot. I am glad I tried it but it was not for me.

If you would like actually to learn, be pushed, become a stronger and more thorough yoga practitioner without all of the sugar coating then this is the place for you. If you would like to be babied with the Hansons playing in the background then this is not the place for you.

I had been consistently practicing yoga for 3 years before I visited Detroit Yoga. I learned more in one of Detroit Yoga's classes than I learned in those three years.

Jason has dedicated his life to the art and lifestyle of yoga you can see it if you "pay attention." He's not there to be your friend he's there to teach you, correct you and watch you grow.

Since I've moved to Texas I've taken classes from at least 7 different teachers and noting compares to Jason's classes. I've recently signed up to his online program and it's great! I'm will be going back to my daily 1-2hr practice and I know I will do nothing but improve. It's even better because I've been trying to get my hubby to practice consistently and he wouldn't. He tried Jason's beginners online practice yesterday and woke up wanting practice today. He said it was "hard as hell" but he loved it.

Go to Detroit Yoga if you want to learn.

      Peace, blessings and much love

      Worst Experience Ever!!!
This guy does not work well with others!!
      Depressing Narcissistic Personality!
He sits and gives commands to his clients and never demonstrates.
I asked; "How do you learn the yoga poses?"
He said that you keep coming to classes.
So, you come to class and you learn from the other clients. He expect the other clients to do his job and teach the new people, yoga. They do all of his teachings! Because, he is too arrogant to be bother with that.

About ten/twelve years ago I first began my practice at Detroit Yoga. I arrived from a year or two scanty home practice with tapes, and before that I practiced at other studios for 2-3 years. And yet with all that history I still knew nothing to speak of. After the first few classes I attended I knew there was something different about Detroit Yoga. The atmosphere was serious and rigorous, while at the same time a place of teaching and learning, and I couldn't get enough. I went to as many classes per day, per week that my schedule would allow.

The most remarkable credit to Jason's teaching is to look at us years later. It seems like there was only a handful of Ashtanga students when I started. No one could float, and no one could bump up. Now, thanks to Jason's teaching ability and patience, that is a very different story. He has taught us so much and his encouragement has allowed us to advance in our practice way beyond what I, personally, thought I was capable of.

All of that is just telling the story of our physical practice. Detroit Yoga is, truly, a place to improve in body, mind, and spirit. Jason's questions and answers at the end of practice, along with the reading material he recommends to us are invaluable for deeper physical and spiritual development. Not only is Detroit Yoga a studio to work and sweat, but it is, even more, a school of self improvement.

I bought a Groupon to try Detroit Yoga. I have only been to the Royal Oak location (they also have Ann Arbor and Detroit).

I really like the classes here and the credit for this goes to the instructors. They are knowledgable, correct gently and run the classes smoothly.

The classes are also small. There are days and times were there are more or less people. There keep the room pretty warm and there is no music.

The only negative is that classes are a bit pricey. The do offer a good deal for new clients, $99 for the first two months.

Highly disappointed! I had high hopes as a new student when after reading Jason's philosophy I purchased a Groupon; always a safe bet as a new student. Well he has a strict policy that you may not just show up for your first visit without scheduling which I respect and makes sense. What irks me is after phone calls, emails and filling out the new student paperwork online I never heard a peep. I was able to turn my money into a voucher so not a total loss but not impressed. Now one could argue well you're one person; nope. My friend had the same experience independent of me; we like to practice together so purchased same new student Groupon within the same week. She had the exact same experience. Not cool! Namaste.

I started coming to this studio years ago and loved it. I took the ashtanga class with Lisa and more than any class or studio, I felt that it was the best way to deepen and improve my yoga practice as you learned something new every day. Also, they had you line up with newest in the back of the room, so getting to watch the advanced people practice was good inspiration to what I could achieve by continuing this class. I started here with a Groupon, but when I saw the outrageous price ($150/month for unlimited and a minimum of 6 months purchase at a time), I had to go elsewhere. But I always came back when they had a Groupon. I would have preferred to pay for a pack of classes; I just cannot always commit 3+ days a week for a solid month to make the $150/month worthwhile. So when I saw that they had new monthly prices, I rejoined. It turns out that the owner was now the only teacher. I knew what he looked like from Facebook, but I had never met him. My first day of class, he never said hi to me; I had to seek him out and let him know I was registering for the class...weird to me since the studio is quite small, I thought since I was new, he would introduce himself to me. Well, I never learned anything new in the 6 classes I attended. I understood this for the first two since he said he wanted to ease me back into it, but eventually I felt as if I was being 'punished' for having taken a break in my practice and I was proven correct on this (as I will mention later). Also, the paperwork I signed for the month by month basis did not mention that it automatically renewed your membership monthly and in order to cancel, you need to give 1 months' notice. That was not mentioned in my early paperwork (maybe enough people complained and it got added later). I was not able to devote 3+ days a week every month to this...doing it for this one month was challenging enough. I was hoping to be able to take breaks and come back when my schedule allowed. But I was told by the owner that he no longer wanted to take people who took breaks in their practice and if I canceled, he would not let me back. I thought yoga was all about understanding and acceptance and not judging. And I would think that any studio would be happy being able to introduce as many people to yoga as they can and not be so judgmental and rude. I am very sad to say that I had to cancel since before when the studio was run differently, it was really great and I would have given it 5 stars...it shows that customer service and personality make a difference.
