Ah, yes. Another place I haven't been to for at least half a decade that I was fortunate to return to recently.
And because Delia's continues to make my tastebuds and stomach sing, the previous review I wrote about this Rio Grande Valley staple deserves a much-needed update.
After church during a daytrip yesterday, my family and I dropped by for a birthday lunch for my dad and my aunt (they're brother and sister).
"Go to any location on a Sunday and you'll find a mini traffic jam in the drive-thru lane. That's a testament to how the business does a familiar Mexican staple right. But why grab takeout when you can dine in and enjoy your order fresh and hot from the cocina with free unlimited chips and salsa at your disposal?"
It may please you to know that the COVID-19 pandemic hasn't cause the eatery to lose a step. Trying to find an open parking spot still presents customers a challenge, but once you do and you go inside, it's all worth it. However, the endless complimentary chips and salsa is no more.
"I used to like tamales, but thanks to Delia's, I now love them."
As a matter of fact, I still love tamales. I ordered the spicy chicken tamales, and if I had any regrets, it's that I should've ordered the dozen than half a dozen.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Oct 1, 2018Previous reviewStrictly a Rio Grande Valley thing, Delia's is the apparent top place to hit up if you're dying for some legitimately tasty tamales.

The pork and beef tamales are my definite must-haves. Whether you get a full or a half order, those bad boys will really hit the spot like they do for me. If you're looking to have a feast, order some menudo. But there's a catch -- it's only available on the weekends.

Came out here to Delia's tamales after a family reunion in San Juan and let me tell you, I got my tamale and menudo fix for sure. It was a Sunday on our way back home and had to stop to get tamales. Establishment is super busy, a long line at the drive thru, so we park and decide to go in to sit down and eat. Parking was available. We wait a little and make our way in. There is sufficient room, tables and booths are available. Food listings are up overhead at the registers where you can look up and see what you want. You get in line to place your order. We wanted to try a little of everything. We order the chicken, pork, and jalapeño and cheese tamales. I ordered a bowl of menudo. The tamales were on point. Very warm, fresh, and the tamale would slide right on off the husk with all of it still in tact, respectfully. The flavors were amazing. Great tasting authentic flavors. Just the right amount of masa and packed with the fillings to perfection. The menudo was also so tasty and with that homemade taste so close to how your mama would make it. They bring you your order and it did not take very long. Bottled drinks were served. You should come out and try this place if you ever come out this way to deep south Texas whether you are visiting te San Juan church or headed out to South Padre Island. I would of given this place a five but I am spoiled most of the times and I don't like to get in line to order. I'd prefer to have my menu at the table and place my order. Other than that, the best tamales and menudo ever.

I ordered tamales to be delivered before Christmas, and they never arrived! I've called multiple times and each time I'm told someone from the shipping department will return my call. So far no response at all. I thought I'd try delivery this year and unfortunately this was a BIG mistake.

Looooove the Tamales here!!!! I was a little skeptical when someone suggested I stop here. They were not wrong. The tamales are perfectly cooked and really flavorful. They have a variety to choose from 1/2 or a dozen. I ordered 1/2 of every flavor available, loved them all. Went back a couple days later and ordered more to take home when I leave. The consistency is there, I already know I will be craving them when I am back home in Georgia. (They ship to your home if needed lol) They were so good I didn't have a chance to take pictures of the tamales out of the wrappers.

Still waiting to hear from "shipping department" which is apparently just one person. I ordered these for Christmas on 11/21/23 and not only did they never arrive, there was no notice from the company that there was a problem with shipping. I only know they were not delivered when the intended recipient told me. Since then I have spoken to the same person who delivers my messages but they are never answered. No customer service at this location. Go there in person but don't expect to have delivery from the online store, as expensive as it is.

Well what a disappointment. No wonder their employees are unhappy. We ordered Christmas tamales on Dec 3rd, they were to be delivered yesterday. no such luck. We will deliver after Christmas, they are bling Fed Ex for not picking up. When the order was placed, they could be shipped on or before the date. After several phone calls to them and leaving a message. Alma calls back to blame the delivery company and we should have ordered sooner. We'll if you ordered after 12/3..good luck. Never again... I give them no stars

Not first tamale at Delia's ....just sayin'. When trippin' down to the RGV, my plans always include a stop into one of several locations because the bean and cheese with jalapeño are divine. The spicy pork is tasty but have some crema ready to neutralize the burn!

After all the hype about this place I finally tried it and let me tell you... it's nothing special really. I think it's just culture down here in the valley. Good tamales non the less but definitely not worth the wait. Also employees seem rude almost as bad as dmv employees. Their attitudes towards customers are definitely a huge no. I don't care how good your food is, service is key. I guess they can get away with it down here in the valley where most businesses have almost the same kind of attitude down here.
