Whenever I am in the area, this is the hotel chain I put at the top of my list. Even closer to the city is the one in Greenwich, which I plan to try. But, for leaf-peeping, the Southport Delamar is an excellent choice.
It is not on the beaten path, but near enough to Westport's shopping district and beach to make it a good place to anchor while attending a nearby event or business meeting.
The building is a beautiful old inn with two stories. Every room is unique and there are suites that are downright regal. The spaces are large and while not luxurious, are elegantly appointed with European-style traditional furniture. I needed a rollaway bed added to my room and they managed to do it without disturbing the comfort and elegance of the space.
The bathrooms are European in style and size. All the rooms have a verdant view, even at the back of the hotel, since the setting is filled with trees and lawns.
Parking is a bit of a challenge (especially since we had a very large vehicle) and we had to walk to it through rain (it was summer -- I imagine the same walk to be a bit much when it is snowing -- how beautiful that area must be in winter).
The rooms all have refrigerators. In fact, the only negative I experienced during my four-day stay was the cleaning staff discarded a sandwich I had brought with me from Breads, in the City. I was miffed!
Fresh linens and towels daily were optional. There is a dining room for meals on the first floor -- quite good. The staff were all friendly. There is a little spa and store on that level too that looked calm and soothing. The whole place was spotless. When we arrived, we found brand new terry slippers and bathrobes waiting for us, and two bottles of spring water. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room, but room service managed to deliver it quickly first thing each morning. Breakfast was ready in the dining room as well.
There were a few minor drawbacks. There is no pool (as far as I could see), there is not much to walk to, so a car is a must, and it is pricey. I still plan to stay there again, when in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natasha G.Black Rock, Bridgeport, CT2636104Jan 2, 2023
We stayed here New Year's Eve with our family. We had a fantastic stay here. It was a holiday weekend and extremely busy in the hotel and restaurant . The hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure they secured me a room available for New Year's Eve. The room was cozy and I was met with a welcome letter and bottle of champagne. The breakfast buffet was tasty and staff was friendly and helpful. This is a great place for a family to stay and especially the holiday season. Thank you Delamar Southport for an amazing stay!

Don't spend one cent in this hotel. Upon checking into our room we realized that the room temperature was 74 degrees and climbing. The staff told us it was a "hotel-wide" problem, as if this would somehow be helpful to us. By the end of the night, the temperature had INCREASED to 77 degrees, despite the fact that the temperature OUTSIDE is in the low 60's. I don't even know how that's possible. The windows have signs that say "do not open" and even if we did, the roadway of I-95 is approximately 100 feet away so that would hardly be a viable solution. Don't walk, RUN to another hotel before you stay here.
Edit: after giving up and driving home (we were only 1.5 hour away for a wedding) the hotel called and offered to cancel our reservation with a refund and a gift certificate for a future stay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elliot H.Baldwin, NY70289Jan 15, 2023
When you pull up to the hotel you're grated by a doorman/bellhop but the entrance area has zero feel that you're at the front of a hotel. They don't have parking spaces available to leave your car few a few minutes to check in, you kinda just double park. Then the size of the hotel is at least 100 rooms from just walking around yet the lobby seems smaller than some 6 room bnbs we've been to. It's nice they have a fire place but there is only seating for one. And then a cross is a very uncomfortable couch for seating for another 2 and that's it. The room was large and clean and fairly priced, would love to see the lobby updated but other than that very happy with the hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel frequently over the years. Mickey greets us with a big smile and warm welcome every time we visit. He always offers to assist us with bags. He also extends the greeting with a glass of Prosecco and bottled waters. Always look forward to seeing him.

Post Mother's Day visit. We had fabulous massages then ate lunch in the courtyard. The hotel is super clean, the staff super attentive!
The atmosphere Spring flowers everywhere. You do need to make a reservation to eat at the restaurant ask or outside with an umbrella.... We had clams on the half shell and seafood salads.
Totally fabulous day!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Philip H.Peterborough, NH0269Aug 31, 2019
This is the worst experience I have ever had. Booked a three bedroom suite to show up to a 1 bedroom. Front desk was not trained and frankly rude. Pull out couch is suppose to be acceptable for grandparents on move in weekend to Fairfield ... Really?
This hotel in Greenwich is amazing .. this hotel in Southport is equal to a red food inn!
Shame on you for treating people this way ... we have the emails to prove you lied!
Forget to mention when we asked to cancel all future reservations we were informed that we can't. This is truly the worst hotel experience we have ever hadHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
