Update:
Sips was completely full Friday night due to reservations when we went at 6:50 pm, so we had to do takeout.
We got the Saffron Paella Risotto ($32), Curried Chicken Crepe (I think also $22), and Lobster Croissant ($22), which were ready after a 25 minute wait. The major offense is that there was a 10% takeout fee, coming out to $8.21. I have NEVER seen that before ever, and to add insult to injury, the food portion of the paella is egregiously small.
I'm only giving 4 stars still because their brunch is incredibly good, and their service is lovely (besides the inadvertent microaggression when the female cashier during brunch asked if I was fluent in Chinese and complimented me saying my English was so good because she thought I was from China).Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 13, 2020Previous reviewWe came here on a friend's recommendation (they came here 3 times during a 5-day trip), and it. WAS. SO. GOOD. My friends and I rushed here at 11:45 am on a Sunday, and the staff let us do indoor dining even though they close at 12 pm.
There were lots of specials to choose from, so we went with Fresh Lobster Omelette w/ Spinach and Asiago and Crab Mushroom Omelette. Both with Texas Toast, though there was other bread options you can get instead. One of my friends wasn't a fan of the Asiago, saying it was too strong and overpowered the lobster flavor, but I thought it was fine. I loved both omelettes, and the buttered toast was delicious! It paired well with the Hollandaise sauce from the Lobster Benedict, which tasted of superb quality, and the Blueberry sauce from the Maine Blueberry Crepes.
I found it interesting that the blueberries were so small; I've never seen them that way. They were sweet but still had some tartness. What stole the show for me was the home fries. Larger than the ones I see in diners all across America, these are spiced so well where you don't need to rely on ketchup or anything like that. They also have a bit of a crust on one side.
I didn't get the Whipped Coffee, but I saw that it looked like the trendy Dalgona Coffee. Given the flavor options, which included Pistachio and Pumpkin Spice, I may have to come back sometime to try it. Additionally, their specials board is constantly changing, so you always have a reason to return. There's also Sips 2.0 across the block, which is their takeout shop? But I'm not sure if there are notable differences in the food.
We got a chance to talk to the staff and found out a lot about locals' perception of lobster. Everyone in Maine has been incredibly nice, and we won't forget it! - Oct 16, 2020
Sips caused me to do something I rarely do on vacation (or even ever) - order the same thing for breakfast two days in a row. And it would have been three if they had been open the third day.
Who cares what else they have on the menu - get the smoked salmon sandwich, and get it on a croissant. The end. Now you're loaded up for a day of Acadian hiking. And so deliciously, too - the combo of a generous pile of Atlantic salmon, coupled with plump tomatoes (I often pick out tomatoes - not here), capers, red onions, spinach, and just enough dill cream cheese to moisten the sandwich but not enough to make the whole thing taste like cream cheese. And getting it on a croissant lets the filling shine instead of mucking it up with a too-thick bagel or whatever else it might be served on.
For a bonus, pair it with grapefruit juice!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Paulo M.Fort Lauderdale, FL01117Oct 24, 2020
I cannot believe I deviated my path and spent 90min of my road trip just to come here, because the place was labeled as "seafood" at Trip Advisor...
The good news: they follow the pandemic rules to the letter. That's it. The service is awfully slow (for a completely empty restaurant) and the server let our prepared food get cold. My daughter and I had the only fish dishes available (see receipt) and they were bland, unseasoned, and not memorable. Not fresh catch either. The beef skewer appetizer was ridiculously small (the meat has no seasoning). The mash potatoes had no salt either. Believe, you can spend US 60 in a supermarket ready-to-go or frozen food.
The setting is unremarkable (tiny place) and only o e table outside.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kristin V.Boston, MA14242Apr 15, 2022
We loved it. Expectations were blown out of the water! Highly recommend the Mac n cheese and the Philly cheesesteak.

Been here before several times over the years and it was fine.
Sad to say, most places in town are either closed completely, limited hours / limited days, or completely mobbed.
Tried to go here twice today since we're staying here in town and had zero luck either time.
This morning (a Tuesday in July), couldn't get breakfast because they were closed and I believe the sign said they don't open until 11 these days, very disappointing because I've gotten coffee and breakfast there and enjoyed it in the past.
Tried to go back for dinner (same day, a Tuesday in July) - and we were briskly turned away because we didn't have a reservation. It was around 5:30. No offers of any wait times or later availability, just told they are full and that's that. There were empty tables outside and maybe 1 or 2 inside, maybe they were reserved but no one was seated in them at the time.
Very disappointing and so many other places not open at all, we had to drive way out to find a place for dinner. It's too bad they didn't offer us another option or later reservation because we might have taken it, we're staying right around the corner.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 2020
TLDR: great hot chocolate
We got take out from here and everything hit the spot. Their BLT with avocado and salmon was the perfect light sandwich after a day of heavy fried foods. We also got a Reuben which hit the spot. Continuing with the light theme (don't worry about that Reuben) their garden salad was also filled with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and other veggies with a refreshing sauce. While we waited for the take out we got a hot chocolate and walked around town which was the best hot chocolate ive had in a while.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 26, 2017
I came here a few times for breakfast during a weekend vacation. This was mainly because it was one of the few places open off season and it was close to where we were staying.
The first time we went here, I got a Dr's Veggie Omelette. The veggies were roasted, which I enjoyed. They were not cooked into the omelette, rather tuck inside a folded egg deal. I also tried a piece of an egg sandwich and the Smoked Salmon Sandwich which were good. I loved the dill/scallion cream cheese on the salmon sandwich! I should have gotten it! Another friend got the Chai Charger and wouldn't stop raving about it (he ended up getting a second one the next day), so I thought I'd mention that. The service was really slow (took over an hour, maybe even an hour and a half for breakfast).
We came here a second time because no other place was open. It was again busy/a wait to get seated. I ordered the eggs benedict with hollandaise on the side. The hollandaise was super buttery and thick so ended up not using a lot of it. Again, the service was really slow but they were super friendly.
The prices are right, but for the standard food and slow service, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here even though the staff was super friendly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christine K.Mahwah, NJ0104Jun 30, 2021
I loved the Sips Cafe! Great service and waitress was very friendly! They have a wonderful selection of food, drinks, and desserts! There is a variety of coffee/tea drinks, fresh lemonade, and the dessert slices are huge! All the food was tasty and reasonably priced. I order this Mac and Cheese with bacon and it was deadly! I would recommend and return!

Hooray for places that are open in the off season. All the poor reviews for this place because they are too busy during peak season are a shame. It was a nice warm respite after striking out trying to find a warm breakfast all over the island after a cold hike. Friendly staff, warm breakfast, couldn't have asked for anything better.
