Hands down the friendliest staff!! They feed you like family!! I've grabbed more family style dinners here than I can count
I haven't tried the entire menu because they make killa huli huli chicken and adobe.
Today I had the pork sisig for my dinner and I'm in heaven. I took a bite just to test and now it won't make it till dinner.
I love that they have 2 restaurants now (I've been to their grand opening at Ogden Ocean Mart in late January) plus their food truck - they do Hawaiian and Filipino food so good!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Nov 11, 2023
Dakine Grindz has such great reviews on Yelp I had to give it a try, and it did not disappoint.
First it is counter service but the people working there were so nice. They offered to let us try the noodles and a couple of the other items before we ordered. So friendly.
We both ordered the two meat plate. With the lumpia (spring rolls) 5/5 two piece add on. Really good!
My meal included the huli huli chicken kabob spicy, 4/5 and I was surprised at how spicy it was. It was hot with good flavor. And my second meat I upgraded to the Kalbi Ribs 5/5, these had great flavor but not as much meat. My sides were the Mac salad 4/5 and adobe fried rice 4/5. Both really good with the Mac salad being a little sweeter.
My wife ordered the kuli chicken kabob sweet 4/5 and I probably liked it better than the spicy. And the kalua pork 4/5 was her second meet. For sides she ordered the pansit noodles 4/5.
We liked everything we ordered and want to go back to try a couple more things. We were really impressed with the amount of choices they offered. I can really see why they are rated so well.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - James H.Nashua, NH16546246Oct 28, 2023
The lady at the front counter was very nice and cordial but they were a disorganized mess and my carry out order took forever.
The meal was just barely okay. Not awesome.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 25151673Feb 13, 20241 check-in
This quick service restaurant is located in a strip mall with ample off street parking. Ordered the Hawaiian Plate which came with rice, mac salad and three entrees. Beware there is an up charge for some of the entrees. Huli Huli Chicken is very tasty and saucy and shouldn't be missed. Kalbi's flavor got a generous boost from the yummy housemade spicy teriyaki. Lechon was a little overcooked, but flavorful. The restaurant was decorated Hawaiian with ample seating for a this busy restaurant. Casual comfortable decor and friendly staff.

Work ordered from them today and I let the owner know it was coming. As always the food was *chefs kiss* so so good! And the best part is it was still really hot for delivery. This food is my happy place. Not commercial product but very real authentic food with flavors from the owners homes. Cannot recommend enough!
Oh and the owners are some of the kindest people you'll ever meetHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 19, 2023
Dakine Grindz is much more better-er than local chain Mo Bettahs! Kalua pork was seasoned far, far better --kicked butt!-- and the katsu pork was not overcooked, yet crisp and mo' better in flavor. The pancit noodles as option for a side was a great Filipino touch. And the rice was perfectly cooked-- one of those subtle details that really matters.
A couple lowlights were gonna pull it down to three stars for me: The eggs on the Katsu Moco were dreadfully overcooked and the Loco Moco gravy weak. Still not a fan, in general, of Hawaiian-style mac salad-- this needed more carrot, scallion, and was a bit too KFC-coleslaw-ey sweet. But had to try their version out, and the pasta wasn't mushy--yay!
Yet a surprisingly nice variety for a small restaurant menu with a number of daily specials, too. If it hadn't been a hot summertime Friday the Pinakbet soup-stew of sausage with eggplant, okra, snow peas, long beans, and more would've definitely roped us in with all of its colorful and nutritious vegetables.
And colorful veg would've gone a long way for brightening the look of the overwhelming beige of our clamshells heaping with generous portions for the price. It was a friend's glowing review of D.Grindz as well that they have been donating portions of their sales to Maui relief that drew us in. And yet the absolutely open and friendly welcome of the wife-owner asking us about how we found them, and how we liked the food, won me over to the four- and five-star elements of our experience. We're looking forward to our next visit. Mahalo!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 11742341312Jun 20, 2023
This place is home away from home!
I was at the Budget car rental at SLC airport when this lady who was helping me with my car arrangements highly recommended this restaurant. She said it was Hawaiian and Filipino food- SOLD.
I didn't make it that evening, but on my way back to California, before heading back to the airport, I decided to give them a try. Restaurant is located in a strip mall in Ogden, UT. I was very skeptical. A legit Filipino/ Hawaiian in Utah? We'll see. It's a small and cozy restaurant. You place your order at the counter and they call you once your food is ready. There are two ladies that take the orders and do the cooking. Service was friendly. I ordered lechon, lumpia, pancit, pork adobo, and adobo fried rice. I was HUNGRY! Everything was really good. The epitome of comfort food.
I will make sure to stop by here again every time I'm in the area for work. Hoping I can make it on the days they offer Sisig and dinuguan.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 1 - 114120504Jul 14, 2023
This place is such a great hole-in-the-wall! From my understanding, Dakine Grindz Restaurant started as a food truck or maybe it's the other way around where they started as a restaurant, but either way, the food was SO good.
Getting to the location was easy and there was plenty of parking in the plaza. Once we entered on the right side there is the menu on the screen and on the side. The way it works is you order the food and you let them know if you'd like to dine in or take it to go.
Their cuisine is Hawaiian and Filipino cuisine.
We tried the following items:
- Lunch Plate- 1 Entree: Sweet Huli Chicken with sticky white rice and Dakine mac salad. The sweet Huli chicken came with 3 sticks. The flavoring was SO, SO good on this. It had the bbq charred taste which made it have awesome flavor. The sticky white rice complimented the sweet Huli chicken and the Dakine mac salad was good as well. The mac salad is on the sweeter side and not as creamy as I'm used to, but it was good!
- Hawaiian Plate- 3 Entree: Pulehu Steak, Sweet Huli Chicken, Tempura Shrimp with sticky white rice and Dakine mac salad. The Pulehu steak came with 1 stick, sweet Huli chicken came with 3 sticks, and there were 3 tempura shrimps. All of these were super delicious. I loved how the tempura shrimp was super crispy! I was a bit sad that the Pulehu steak only came with 1 stick though. Everything was so good that we wanted more.
- Halo Halo- typical Filipino dessert. Toppings were great, had the perfect amount of sweetness to it, and everything was made to perfection. It's such a staple to eat halo halo in any kind of weather. We like to mix everything up and then eat it. Some people like to not mix it up, but it's totally up to you and your preference!
Overall, I would come back here again. The portions were generous in my opinion. I couldn't finish the lunch plate with my sweet Huli chicken. Customer service was great, wait time wasn't that long (however, I could tell that it might take long if you go during rush hours), the food was beyond delicious, and it's such a great mom and pop shop. Go to this place for some great food!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Anyda C.Urban Honolulu, HI01Apr 10, 2024
From Salt Lake City but lived in Hawaii for a year and a half and wanted a place that sold good Hawaiian food as if I was on the island. Went to the one in the ocean mart in Ogden and they didn't disappoint. Sweet and kind service and food was fresh and served in a good portion. Will come back when I am back up here for sure. Me and my brother got chicken katsu plate and bbq pork plate and both dishes were so good and filling.
