Located a bit further up the ave you will find one of the best places to get so called "hawaiian food." When you walk in you may feel a bit hesitant in eating here due to the fact that the place looks dirty but take the chance. The food here reminds me of teriyaki with a twist of hawaiian food. They have the best spam fried rice I have ever tasted and the Mochiko Chicken is a MUST when ordering. There are many choices to choose from, all which are listed and pictured on the wall when you walk in. The most popular dishes are the ones that have chicken katsu, mochiko chicken, and spareribs.

My personal favorite would have to be the Theta Chi plate. Its comes with Mochiko Chicken, Spicy Teriyaki, Spam Fried Rice, and a Fried Egg. You get a very generous portion of rice and meat all for under 8 dollars! One the greatest things about the food here is that when you have leftovers, it still taste just as good the next day. They also sell drinks here which are overpriced, spam musubi which are huge, and macaroni salad which is so yummy!

This place however is CASH ONLY so don't forget to grab cash!

Great hole in the wall place! I came here for the first time tonight. They guy working there pointed to the wall of pictures which serves as the menu.

I honed in on the Hawaiian plate which features pork lau lau/kalua pork and a large scoop of rice. The lau lau was nice with a generous piece of fatty pork inside. The kalua pork was nice, a bit watery but maybe its supposed to be that way. I also got a spam musubi just for good measure.

The guys working there spoke mandarin chinese but the food was great and pretty cheap. I think the main entree I got was one of the most expensive things on the menu for $9.95 plus tax $11.00 and I was pretty full afterwards. Most items could be had for well under $10.00 and with huge portions. My tummy is still aching and I have a small take out container waiting that remains of my meal. Clearly a great place for poor students or folks short on cash.

Unless you're allergic to everything edible or hate food or are really picky or just not a real person, eat here. That's all. It's priceless. Scrumptious. Indescribable. Mouth orgasm.

Yeah, it's greasy, you'll probably gain 20 pounds if you eat here everyday but WHATEVER. Mr. Chan is awesome and so is the overly rice-stuffed spam musubi. I go here on the regular and I still have to spend 10 minutes staring at the menu aka wall of pictures.

But really though, everyone I've taken here has been so hyped on it. And seriously, one standard combo is enough food for at least three meals, for under $10.

Hawaii BBQ is one of the few mainstays on the Ave. The businesses in the area change as much as the student body at UW does. But this place is one of the constants. And it is easy to see why. Hawaiian plate lunch fare is known for having large portions, being hearty and a good value. This is a good match for the neighborhood as it appeals to the budget-conscious student along and the ex-kamaaina looking for grinds from home.

As Hawaiian places go, Hawaii BBQ easily has the best pricing around town. You will not find a place with a bigger bang for your buck. And the portions are not small. They are gigantic, almost to the point of being too much food to eat in one sitting. That is unless you are a football player, sumo wrestler or the like.

The menu here is presented through photos of the plates offered with wording in small print. A little hard to navigate because it does not seem like the plates follow a numeric order. Pricing for lunch plates can vary from $5 something to $13 for the Hawaiian plate, laulau fixings and all.

On my latest trip, I got the Hawaiian club plate ($6.95) which consists of fried rice with egg, mochiko chicken and chicken katsu with dipping sauce on the side. It was the afternoon and I had not eaten the whole day. Lucky I didn't. The portions were so big that I skipped having a regular dinner.

While the plate is massive, the food was just okay. The fried rice was a bit ordinary. I wished it had some Portuguese sausage or kim chee instead of just the basic peas and carrots. The mochiko chicken was decent, though it was mostly breading that filled up this part of the plate. I will say that the chicken katsu here is excellent. Just the right amount of crispiness and the sauce that compliments it works well.

The place is no frills and packed mostly with students and ex-Hawaii locals. A pretty popular takeout place too. Also the restaurant is cash only, which probably is so they can keep costs down. They have an ATM for your convenience in the store if you need it.

If you are looking for some ono kine grindz or just some cheap eats, Hawaii BBQ is da kine of place for you!

I'm so glad this place is a bit far up the ave near 52nd rather than 45th, because I would probably inflate exponentially... I have no control here. The food is AMAZING, prices are dirt cheap, and they give you a huge pile of the best Hawaiian food you'll probably ever find in Seattle. I usually have the Hawaii Club (I think that's what it's called) combo, which is fried rice with a fried egg on top, mochiko chicken, and chicken katsu.

You should probably already know that the food isn't exactly the healthiest, but I guarantee that after your first bite, you won't even care. Since I've discovered this place, I've taken so many of my friends, who are equally enamored with this hole in the wall. That being said, the actual restaurant itself is as dive-y as it gets, but like I said, after your first bite, you won't even care.

Wow I can't believe I did not write a review on this place yet!

I used to frequently dine here during my college years after study groups or club meetings. The owners of the place always remember familiar faces and have no shame playfully joking with you and others in the restaurant.

I am a big kalua pork fanatic and they do serve decent kalua pork here. It's not the best but it does hit the spot. This is the only dish I can finish from here in one sitting.

The rest of the meals I have ordered here are big enough to save half for another meal. I like their mochiko chicken and chicken katsu if I'm not in the mood for pork. If I'm in an indecisive mood, I order the alpha sig place since it has chicken katsu, spicy chicken, and fried rice with an egg on top.

Come to think of it, it has been awhile since I dined here. Time to make a much needed visit!

Delicious mochiko chicken! It's like popcorn chicken, but better. The katsu chicken is also delicious. The owner is very nice and remembers the regulars.

      Sorry they only take cash.
They have an awesome menu consisting of pictures. Best kind of menu if you ask me.

Very filling, I always have leftovers. Yum, I'm getting hungry thinking about it. They also close at 10pm unless he's visiting his homeland.

For overall taste this place doesn't deserve 5 stars but for the shear blessing I can still get decent hawiian food in Seattle-- this place gets 5.

I really enjoyed my katsu and bbq chicken. Their mac salad was also on point by not being over seasoned; the way a hawaiian mac salad should be. My friend got a humbow and it was really really big and pretty tasty as well.

I don't know what kind of hot sauce they have in that little silver tin by the counter but I used a lot, a lot. YUMMY!

Can't wait to try more dishes.

      yummy Humbow- huge and cheap!!!!

If I'm in the U District, hungry and have time to kill before seeing a movie, because that's normally the only reason I'm in the U District, this is one of my go to places.

I'm not going to lie it is a bit sketchy and a bit dirty since it's a bus it yourself kind of place and not everyone is clean and tidy. When you first walk in look to your left there is the menu, pictures with descriptions of what's to eat, a bit over whelming if you ask me because there are so many options and food pictures to look at.

First time I went with the small BBQ chicken plate with a side of (Mac)crackaroni salad. Chicken is always good, tender and juicy and not too sweet. The crackaroni salad is probably my favorite in Seattle, so far. It's crackalicious with just the right amount of crack sauce to make me go mmm ohh yah! My other favorite is a small order of the Hawaiian fried rice with Portuguese sausage, and of course with a side of crackaroni salad. It's good cheap food that will fill you up for days, but be warned if you use your debit card you get charged a fee by them I think it's $.50 but not sure so you might want to bring cash.

You want good food, you want it cooked fresh, and you want it cooked good, you want here.

      YUMMY.

It doesn't take very much time, after taking your first bite, to want to come back. I have been coming here for years, until today, it's been a short while, but walking in; it felt like home. Helped that the person standing inside was the beautiful person I have been missing for a while.

Look, they are going to give you Hawaiian food, the type you find at the local hole in the walk place, and they give you enough that you will be full. It's also at a very reasonable price, below 10 dollars a person. It's fried goodness; you get a great cooked eggs, rice, and perfectly battered chicken; and that's just the katsu plates. Oh yeah, you have to know that there will be wait if it's busy.

Why you ask? Because they cook everything when ordered; fast food, cooked right.

What about the classic spam musubi, um.. it's WIN. Their rice bowls, "-don" are serious meals, you will always get a value here, and with 2 hour street parking all over, it's easy to park and eat. I can't say this enough, you want a good meal, and this place is perfect for all eaters.
