My family has been coming here since the 60's. It is very much a family restaurant. I'm sad to say they used to have the best STL style pizza in town, but now it's very hit and miss. A few of their menu items have always been great though: the Cusanelli's Special salad, the country fried chicken and the fried chicken. The Deluxe pizza is also very consistently good because with all the toppings, the crust doesn't matter much.
Believe it or not, they just might have the best margarita's in town when their regular bartender, Steve, is working. He quit for a while to take a real job. The margaritas went downhill quickly, then he came back. We were pleased.
Tip: order your pizza "well done" if you want it to be a bit crispy. I've never had a pasta meal there that I would recommend. As someone else said - go to the Hill. -

They are understaffed. It took them forever to serve my spaghetti w/ meatballs. Their meatballs are average. I should have ordered their pizza which have amazingly delicious cheese. The problem is I'm allergic to cheese to it would been entertainingly embarrassing for my companions to see my lip swell and my skin get hives.
Not the right time to eat cheese. -

I haven't been to Cusanelli's in a few years and there is a reason. My grandparents used to love the place and I don't think they have done anything to it since they were going. Most of the things I have tried taste like they went from freezer to fryer. The pizza is not that great and most of the homemade items have become tasteless and boring.
The place is run down, and the food as a whole is mediocre at best. Cusanelli's is family owned and I for one would love to see them do well. But, there is such a thing as reinvesting in your business. You can't let things go to hell and then rest on the laurels of your history. Tweak the menu and fix the place. Then, I'll be happy to give it another try. -

Cusanelli's...FINE ITALIAN CUISINE.....pizza steaks and chicken....that's what the sign says...and it has cracked me up for years, I mean what is so fine about pizza steaks and chicken? It sounds trashy. It's ridiculous. Now that THAT little rampage is over, I must go on to talk about this restaurant, because it's wonderful, even if it's advertisement is a little hilarious to see.
I think because Lemay is one of the most oft forgotten neighborhoods in South County, people often forget about Cusanelli's as well. This is a darn shame, because honestly, Cusanelli's is one of the most delicious restaurants in the city. Though there is not much worth doing in Lemay, this is probably the high light of any trip you may make to this neck of the woods.
The food here is divine, and the service is spectacular. Also, the place is always jammed, so you know you are getting into something delicious as soon as you walk through the door. I am in love with their pizza. It's thin crust and yummy and they pile the toppings on. I love me some veggie piled pizza...try it it's delicious.Listed in: Great Date Places

Based on the other reviews, I might be writing about the wrong restaurant. My brother took me and Tricia here one evening, and it wasn't anything special. I felt I was walking into dinnertime at a retirement home. My bro's pizza was pretty good. I had a fish sandwich that was so-so. My mom had the chef salad, which, as Jessica H said, wasn't all that.
I guess I'll have to go back and give it another shot. -

Cusanelli's is not fine Italian food, but it is good food in a quaint atmosphere. The place is always packed, usually with big families having dinner together. I've never had a bad meal there, just good, simple food, served by staff that have been working there a long time.
The house wines aren't spectacular, but they don't hold back. The pizza is thin-crust, as it is so many places in St. Louis, but it is good. They don't deliver, but it's a restaurant, not a pizza joint. Order the chicken-fried chicken, and you'll get a plate swimming in gravy. If you ask for your salad with cheese, you'll get your greens covered in provel cheese. Fried chicken is always on the menu, although they do have some healthier alternatives always ready.
The dress code is casual, and the prices are never extraordinary. If you go at the right time on Friday or Saturday, you'll find a line out the door. Cusanelli's is great for a comfortable, reliable and not-too-exciting night out. -

Simply an old fashioned Italian STL gem! My Aunt used to be a waitress here back in the day and some of the staff from back then still work there after over 40 years. It's a family run restaurant and you get that feel when you dine here. The regulars keep this place running, however it is worth a visit. I love their pizza as it has a taste like none other and is the main reason my family still frequently visits this establishment. You can order frozen pizzas to-go, which we take advantage of quite often on camping trips. They taste great cooked over a grill!! We have had many large family birthday dinners here as they have many separate areas suitable for groups. I hope you get a chance to enjoy it too!

Cusanelli's is strange. It is one strange mural and terrible fake flower arrangment away from being campy...instead it just looks dated and sad. I agree with the comment that it is similar to a retirement home. An empty retirement home. We were the only patrons there for about 45 minutes. Sadly, the food matches the decor. Our server, Kelly, was very nice, but when asked what food was best, she only told us what was most popular. I ordered the fettucini alfredo, which another server jumped in and said was her favorite, and it was bland. I added shrimp and broccoli. Pretty sure the shrimp was frozen and thawed (you know, those little bitty frozen ones you put on dips? yeah, that's it). The house salad was good and their house dressing was tart and fabulous. I felt like crap about 30 minutes after eating there and I'm still not "right" the next day. I really wanted to like Cusanelli's, but sorry, I didn't.
