I was in the market for a new hot and cold countertop water dispenser after our brio broke a couple of times. I noticed there was still a lot of hard water build up despite of the filter. This was another concern of mine.
I called on a Friday and was able to get an appointment with sales representative Kevin the following Saturday when my husband and I were both home.
Kevin knight showed up on time. Very friendly, professional and educational. I originally wanted to rent the counter top system but Kevin found out we would purchase the unit. This saved us in the long run which was good. After the demonstration, we found out our water was super hard and had a lot of particulates in it. The levels were all in the red zone. We decided to also add rental units to soften our water. Due to not knowing where our previous halo tank drain was going, we had to use the double PE tanks and carbon filter tanks. We would need to get them replaced once a month. $9.99 x 2 months intro rate. $395 install fee for both countertops and the soft water exchange tanks. We decided to move forward.
*after the hiccups with instal. Kevin advocated for us to get an additional month of promotional pricing. Instead of two months, get got us three months. I appreciated him reaching out to offer this to me instead of having to ask for some sort of compensation. He stays ahead of the game in customer service. *10 star customer service*
Install date: Luis from bellflower location came to install on a weekend. The countertop system went smoothly. He just needed to add an output line from the drink to the unit. The height of the unit fit right under our cabinet just like the Brio unit which was great. He tucked the lines under the cabinet door so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. I love the beautiful countertop unit. Touchless hot and cold system (ascent $1995.00).
The PE tanks and carbon tank build and install was a bit more of a headache. Luis had to build a whole new contraption for the pipes and tank switch out system. He worked very hard that day. However, later in the afternoon after he departed, the units started to drip leak. There was a puddle on my garage floor. I called the main line. Got the after hours man to FaceTime me. He gave me the option for a 300+ fee to have a tech come out same night OR I just close the bypass option to stop the water until Monday when they assign another person to take a look. As much as I wanted to use the soft water, the leaking was too much so I bypassed it. I called my sales rep Kevin to notify of this and he said he would get someone over Monday.
Monday morning came, I called the office and they said it was scheduled for the following day. They already had pre existing visits so they could not come. I was disappointed in the customer service. I let Kevin know and he made it happen for someone else to come later Monday evening. The tech who came out did not have a torch and said he could not troubleshoot it. Continue to bypass it. The next day another tech came out who said the original installer needed to fix it. i was also missing the black rings to prevent leaking. another day passed and our original installer came back. unscrewed the pipes and re sealed them to stop the leak. later in the afternoon, i noticed leaking on the paper towels we left on the tank again. the connecting areas were not aligned. they sent another tech out and aligned it. put black rings on it to reduce leak. unfortunately, the black rings are always low in stock. Only had 3 to apply. I asked the next tech to leave 3 rings for when the installer came again to put them on. Today, 3/30 all our securing rings are now on and so far no leaks.
My thoughts of culligan counter top so far: awesome. Love the modern look. Touch less feature and water quality.
My thoughts of the soft water rental tanks so far: I LOVE the slippery water feel. I feel like my skin is finally getting better treatment after 37 years of life. My children used to have a lot of skin dryness and rash. Their skin has shown improvement. The hair texture feature is inconclusive. I do not notice much difference with that.
I want to give a shoutout to office staff Rose and Darlene. They have always provided me with great customer service and prompt at my document requests.
I was to thank all the tank switch out drivers. They always call me the morning of for eta on switch out so I am prepared for their arrival. Always arrived and services in a professional manner. I know it's takes villages to run a company and staff coordination is difficult everywhere. The most important part for me is their willingness to fix their errors. Thank you Culligan!
Tip: try not to use their after hours service because it does cost a pretty penny (if at all possible).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mrs. DJ B.Trabuco Canyon, CA454112Jan 19, 2024Updated review
It is such a shame that almost 7 years ago I wrote a stellar review to have it all go downhill in the last year. From dealing with awful customer service to the actual system itself not functioning.
Do not use this company if you want any normal amount of customer service or a product that functions consistently.
Product is not impressive and the cost is expensive for what you get.
Darlene.... The Customer service manager is one of the most miserable people in customer service that I've ever had to work with. She should not be employed at any position dealing with people and probably should even be supervised around pets because she is just awful and animals also shouldn't suffer being around terrible people. We even told the same thing to upper ownership/management as we were appalled with our interactions with her. She called me a liar on the phone and then said they had the recording to prove against what I was saying was told to me during the previous phone call . I had them email me the recording and waaalah, the recording was just like I said it was.
We were billed for a unit I didn't even have after I cancelled the service. Before cancellation, salt deliveries were not placed in the unit and instead dumped on my driveway countless times when we were told they would dump salt deliveries into unit. These salt bags are very heavy and the average would struggle doing it themselves. Our Water smells as the system doesn't work properly. Culligan even called to schedule deliveries after my account was cancelled.
If thinking about getting a water softener, go buy a unit outright from Home Depot and save yourself any future frustration with dealing with this company. This customer service and service is not worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Oct 17, 2017Previous reviewMy children and I have eczema. I thought the terrible water was contributing to this problem. After getting the water filter service from Culligan, I find myself far less itchy and with less eczema bumps and it has only been 2 weeks since the system was installed! With the progress going like this, I believe we will be eczema free shortly! My child also has stopped complaining about being itchy and uncomfortable. My hair even feels healthier and we are very happy to have a Culligan water system in our home.

I
Unreliable and they do not stand by damage caused by their service installers.
They incorrectly the softener tank to the water supply causing water spray that shorted out the electric control on the water tank. The water tank was under warranty and they would not reimburse me for tank installation.
I would not ever recommend Culligan.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew C.San Clemente, CA021Apr 9, 2024
I had a 9:00 am appointment yesterday for RO install. Tech called approximately 8:15 same morning and confirmed a 10:00 -12:00 arrival window? No window was ever discussed and or agreed upon. Appointment was for 9.00 am.
Tech called a second time at 9:25 am and confirmed he could be at property by 9:45. I explained we had a plumber scheduled for 10:30 am to install new water heater.
Needles to say, Culligan appointment had to be cancelled.
What's upsetting is Culligan had no regard for my time whatsoever.
Very disappointed by lack of customer service and terrible follow up. I also called local rep and never received returned phone call. Also emailed Santa Ana office .....nothing but crickets. Needless today, Culligan missed the mark by a large margin!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Y A.Whittier, CA02312Jan 18, 2024
My 15-year relationship with Culligan of Santa Ana has recently turned into a nightmare. Their incompetence hit a new low when our rented water tank from them exploded (12/5/23), causing property damage, despite clear evidence from the Water Company of no pressure spikes. It was a very old and worn out tank. This is the second time their negligence has wreaked havoc on our property - the first being in July 2021 due to an employee's failure to tighten a pipe properly.
Culligan's response? Absolute disregard for their responsibilities and a refusal to acknowledge the damages. Even after providing evidence and proof from the city's water company. Rob Pendergraft's condescending attitude and utter lack of customer service only add insult to injury. Despite our loyalty, we were treated with disrespect.
Consider this a warning: Culligan of Santa Ana not only fails to stand by their mistakes but also treats long-term customers with disdain. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of this company if you value competent service and respect.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 1607102848Jun 12, 2023
Service has always been on time...
I was a little disappointed that the representative wasn't able to complete a request I had of changing my timer on my unit ... apparently that is not something that can be done by sales reps... and it's definitely not something that I can do myself. My units timer was changed to 4 AM. By the last repair person, unbeknownst to me . However, I needed it to be at 4 PM so it doesn't wake up the neighbors . I will be making a separate appointment to have The timer changed. Overall a good company. Been with them a very long time.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

My experience with this company has been nothing short of disappointing. The ordeal began with false assurances--promising a 0% APR on their equipment for the entire duration, only to discover after the first year that this offer was valid for the initial year alone. What's more disheartening is that when I tried to address this discrepancy, the seller dismissed my concerns with a nonchalant attitude.
To add to the distress, the installation provided was an absolute nightmare. The team responsible for the installation performed well below par, especially concerning the piping in my garage. Not only was it visually unappealing, but it also caused significant inconvenience. I had to go the extra mile and hire a plumber to completely overhaul the piping system, and even they were shocked by the dismal workmanship displayed by this company.
In essence, this company exhibits a complete disregard for its customers. Their actions showcase a blatant lack of integrity, misleading customers with financial information and delivering substandard work without taking any responsibility. I strongly caution against engaging with this company, given their unethical practices and abysmal customer support.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Smilely T.Chino Hills, CA03018Jan 17, 2024
Absolutely true. The installer did charge me $300 for extra plumping. And, yes, the service is bad. Horribly bad attitude from people working within the office.

I have used this company for years and pay nearly $40/month for full service. I bought and paid for the equipment outright, so this is just for service. Their service has dropped to bad. Known as Culligan or Halls. I found my salt barrel totally empty. The driver has just left bags adjacent to barrel. I now have a ruined shirt and bloody knuckles since the bags are so hard to open. The phone number I have has also been disconnected.
Bad. Can you tell I am mad?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ana A.Downey, CA5073Mar 24, 2023
SAVE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION
The service appointments take weeks to get to you but they will NOT hesitate to continue charging your monthly fee knowing you're without service sometimes for a whole month. Once it's "repaired" the equipment will go out again within a few weeks later and you will have to do the annoying cycle all over again. They don't care how frustrated you are, about your complains, and their inconsistent service. They will not accommodate non-service reimbursements or discounts of any sort. After numerous reports I decided to give up and cancel the service but was hit with a ridiculous early termination fee. If I were to beg you not do service with them, I would!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
