DO NOT GO HERE, THEY HAVE A RIGGED SCALE! My husband and I went here yesterday to try and sell some old 18k gold bracelets. We were given a price of $284 for 8g which seems great right? Still we decided to shop around and make sure we would be getting the best deal. We were therefore surprised to step into another store and be told that the gold weighed 12.5g and NOT 8g...we walked awayfrom the second place with a better price per gram and more money in our pockets. Had we not shopped around we would have never known about the rigged scale. I was very disappointed to find that there are businesses that outright cheat their customers like this. Do not go here and discourage anyone you know from going here.

Hi Ruth,
Thank you for visiting our company and giving us the opportunity to earn your business. I assure you that none of our scales are "rigged". They are all certified from the California Department of Weights and Measures. This is a government institution that comes to our location, calibrates our scales, then locks our scales so they cannot be tampered with. Every reputable gold buyer should have a sticker on their scale that indicates the Department of Weights and Measures was there. If anyone is using a scale without this sticker, they are in violation of California business practices. This is the same government institution that calibrates the scales at grocery stores for your produce and calibrates the gas pumps for your car.
The difference in the weight for your items is simply a matter of what unit of measurement your items were weighed. We typically use pennyweight (dwt) to weigh your items simply because its the most precise unit of measurement based on how gold is priced on the world market. We can always weigh your items in grams (g) if you like, and it will not affect your final offer.
The difference in weight is simply the difference in the unit of measurements. There are 1.555 grams in 1 pennyweight so 8 pennyweight= 12.44 grams.
The reason we use pennyweights is because there are exactly 20.0000 pennyweights (dwt) in one troy ounce which is how gold is priced on the world market. As of this message, gold is at $1,207.30 per troy ounce. If you divide this by 20.00, it comes to $60.365 per pennyweight. $60.365 x 20 = $1,207.30
We can price and weigh your items in any unit of measurement that is comfortable for you as long as we know the conversion calculation-grams, pennyweight, grains, troy ounces, carats, etc. There is not an exact number of grams in a troy ounce which is why we typically don't use grams, but either way the price we offer will be the same. There are 31.1034768 grams in one troy ounce but if you round the number to just 31.1, you can divide it by $1,207.30 and get $38.82 per gram. Let's look at one more comparison so it will be easier to see.
Ex. Say you have 10 grams of pure gold. This is the same as 6.43 pennyweights. Then multiply both by the numbers I gave above.
10 grams x $38.82= $388.20
6.43 pennyweights x $60.37 = $388.18
The only difference is because of rounding purposes but you can see is not much of a difference at all. This is basically about $388.
The point of this is to make sure that you and any future customer we have is completely satisfied when they walk away from our store. We never try to trick our customers or imply that pennyweight is gram weight. We have grown to be the largest gold buyer in the Inland Empire and Southern California for a few simple yet important reasons. 1.We offer the best price for your unwanted gold, silver, platinum and diamond jewelry. 2. We have the most well-trained staff and strive for superior customer service. 3. Most of our locations are open 7 days a week to best serve our customers.
We will always beat any legitimate gold buyer's offer and I encourage you to come again. Please mention this reply and I will see to it that you are completely satisfied with your experience at Crown Gold Exchange. - Kevin G.Montclair, CA6814122Sep 26, 2014
Tried saying my rings were fake when I had the certs with them. Offered less than a third of what I had been offered at other places. Complete ripoff.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for visiting us. We do a thorough testing process for all the items that are presented to us and if any items don't pass our tests, we do not buy them. With the price of gold being this high, we can't afford to make a mistake and buy something that is not authentic gold, silver, or platinum.
As far as your items that were real gold, we make a very fair and high-priced offer based on the karat of your gold, 10k, 14k, 18k, etc., the price of gold on the world market, and how much your items actually weigh. Please don't be confused with an "appraised" price from other jewelry stores that buy gold. We make a real offer for your items and will instantly buy them in our store. A jewelry "appraisal" is the insurance replacement cost. This is not an amount someone will actually pay you unless you file a claim with your insurance company.
With our 110% high price guarantee, we will always make the highest real offer for your unwanted gold, silver and platinum jewelry.
I'd be more than happy to see your items again and thank you for your feedback. We want to make sure all of our clients have all of their questions answered and are completely satisfied. - Steven P.Upland, CA3211Oct 8, 2013
Big time LOWBALLERS. The first time I went here about a year ago and was lowballed on the first offer and was about to leave but the lady stopped me and negotiated a better deal, not the greatest deal but one I was willing to accept. Today I went back again with a gold coin that was already graded and sealed and again was lowballed but this lady was NOT willing to negotiate a price. Now I understand I'm not going to get spot price but come on. Had she at least tried to negotiate I may not have accepted but I wouldn't have written this negative review. There is another gold shop nearby that is so much better, I don't think I'm allowed to give the name but if you check yelp reviews on it you will see for yourself.

Hi Steven,
Thank you for the review of your experience and for your business a year ago when you sold your other gold coin to us. We appreciate you giving us a chance to earn your business again. We never take our customers for granted and always appreciate your patronage.
We try our best to buy the items from every customer without giving our customer any pressure to sell. We only want you to sell if you are comfortable and completely satisfied with your offer. We don't offer anything less than 90% of the value of gold coins, especially if they are sealed and graded, so I'm not sure if most people would not consider that a "lowball" offer as you stated.
We are familiar with the other gold company you mentioned and they are also very nice people. However we will always beat any other legitimate gold buyer's offer. We have grown to be the largest gold buyer with 15 locations in Southern California for a reason. We have great payouts, great customer service, and most of our locations are open 7 days a week.
I urge you to please visit us again and mention this email. Our highly-trained, professional, and courteous gold buyers will personally give me a call to make sure you are completely satisfied with your offer.
Thanks again for your review and I'd like the opportunity to earn your business once again. - Melissa J.Riverside, CA944026Nov 2, 2014
I had a great experience at this location. I was helped by a woman by the name of alisha. She was really friendly and enthusiastic about her job. She explained to me the process and what she was doing step by step. I didnt tell her that i had brought my gold pieces to another cash for gold place right before, but wanted to see if i could get a higher price, and i did! It was an overall pleasant experience and i will definitely be returning for the awesome customer service as well as the generous payout. Ask for Alisha if you go!

I called the day before and Nikole explained everything to me. I was prepared and had done my research and thanks to her information, knew I was going to the right place. I had a very old ring with a faux ruby in it and wanted the stone for making a new piece from as a memory, but we could not get that stone out for the hours we worked on it, LOL! I would recommend removing any stones before taking the jewelry to be sold, or going back later after the initial estimate, keeping in mind that metal prices can fluctuate with the minutes. When I got home, the screen was still open on my phone and I saw that the price of gold had dropped a few dollars over the day.
Nikole was very nice and patient, and we were actually having fun trying to bust that ring. I KNOW I got a fair price, because I checked the gold prices online and had a scale to weigh the ring myself. She quoted me the exact same gold price that was going on the exchange with in minutes of my arriving. I had been checking it myself on my phone. She explained to me how they test the metal, how to check metals at home before going in, everything. I plan on going back later with some old silver bits I have laying around.
The office is in a reasonably safe, pleasant area, not one of those tacky strip malls, and very well designed for putting people at ease. I had no problem immediately cashing the check at my bank.
Be prepared to give your thumb print and show ID for the legal reasons, the ink doesn't stain that much at all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Fiona S.La Verne, CA2158Sep 8, 2012First to Review
I was very apprehensive of selling my unwanted gold but I've been hearing the commercial on the radio so I figured why not?! Old, broken, and unwanted jewelry just sitting around. So I went and Lydia was great! Went step-by-step and explained every process. I had 3 broken 18k charm bracelet, 2 broken 14k necklaces, pair of old 14k hoop earrings, 3 pairs of deformed 18k dangling earrings and 2 other that is missing a pair. I came out of that place making $996.00. I think it's great!
