Saw "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" courtesy of Goldstar. Theater was a bit hard to find at night, especially since the lighting in the area is dark and it's tucked away behind a church and the signage was not easily distinguishable. Street parking was plentiful and area was generally quiet.
Theater itself was nice and roomy, and not a bad seat in the house (although the seats themselves were not comfy). As for the play, it was ok, the actors and actresses were terrific but the script was not as humorous as I had expected, and was expecting it to be more racy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 530148143Dec 30, 2018
Small location, at a church it seems, with small bathrooms, squished seating, but wonderful theater! Great place to see a play, but be warned, seating is tight and you might be squished in a bit.

This theatre is very intimate about only 40-50 seats? . There is no bad seats. I got to see the wonderful wonderettes. And I loved it. I would definitely return.
Re: parking there is street parking I would get there early to find parking outside. I got there early and got lucky and found parking right across.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin B.Signal Hill, CA1848735151Jun 29, 2015
The Crown City Theatre Company has been in existence for 20 years and comprised of approximately 30 actors. Their small performance space of approx. 65-70 seats, has been located on the grounds of the St Matthews Lutheran Church for the past 8 years now. Simply follow the signs to get to the theater.

Plenty of signage so you know you're in the right place and what the current show is.

The rectangular theater space is situated not with the stage at one end of it as you might expect, but instead along one side. As such, even if you are "way back in the nose bleed seats", you are only in the 4th row, so there is no bad seat in the house. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/crown-city-theater-north-hollywood?select=NC3I1zThGtE28sVEMgJ5tw
I have been to this theater twice now, both times to see the Stephen Sondheim musical "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". (Yes it's THAT good!) This show originally opened on Broadway in 1962, won several Tony Awards along the way and I can see why. WOW, what a FUNNY, FUNNY show! Absolutely every aspect of the performance by the Crown City troup, the acting, timing, sound, lighting... was 100% on point! An excellent production overall and well worth the ticket price ($30)!
THANK YOU to Kenny G for sharing that bottle of chardonnay during intermission, that was AWESOME!
OVERALL: Yet another awesome little theater, with a very professional theater company, doing some wonderful productions here. I love small theaters like this and look forward to coming back for their next production!Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Stephanie L.Los Angeles, CA5413018Sep 27, 2015
This live performance interpretation of Nosferatu was really cool and was true to the silent movie feel.
I recommend seeing the performance first and then comparing it against the movie (on Netflix btw) later.
The acting was on point, the dancing was fun and exciting, the love story between the couple was strong, and of course Nosferatu was creepy enough.
Also if you come early enough you can snag a seat in the front row.
Definitely a unique experience.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Chelsea A.Loma Linda, CA498347475Dec 31, 2018
I loved this little theater! It is hidden behind a church in a cute little location. There is lots of parking around and it's free to park! Our show started at 3, so we got there at 2:30 and the doors were just opening. Since there are only about 50-60 seats, there isn't a bad seat in the house. It is open seating, so the people who were very late couldn't sit together, but as long as you get there a half hour before the show you're fine! I loved the Mousetrap by Agatha Christie that the theater put on and I would definitely go back for another show!

Saw mousetrap here on a Saturday night and really enjoyed it. I thought all the actors were great. The place is small which I like so any seat is a good one. It was 1st come seating and the chairs were comfortable.
The only negative is parking street parking if you can find it. We actually parked around the corner in a parking lot of a place that was closed so not to bad.
All in all I would definitely come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel S.Burbank, CA31115May 12, 2018
Discovered this theater through Goldstar. There are many small theaters in NoHo but this is where we have gone most times. They don't disappoint. The theater even gives discounted pricing to people who sign up for their email list--bypasses third-party tickets. Do sign up. (Pricing is same as movie tickets, I kid you not.)
As mentioned by many, venue is intimate, no bad seats, comfortable seats. We avail of their concessions (snacks, drinks) because we normally have dinner after theater.
Performers are top-notch, directing is tight. It feels like everyone's truly enjoying what they do. In other theaters, we feel the "nervous" energy, but in Crown City, you feel the FLOW.
We watched their current show Mousetrap last night. We were impressed as usual. If you haven't gone, prepare to be impressed by a great talented cast, director and crew. You'll be a regular.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 15461552298Oct 1, 2013
Saw "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!" on Sunday afternoon, picked up tickets through Goldstar. At first we had trouble figuring out where the theater was--it's in the church building complex! It's tiny, but great because there are no bad seats!
The musical was funny and I enjoyed the singing. It talks about all the silliness and drama of dating and single life from the man and woman's perspective, and ends with marriage and senior life.
I'd recommend checking it out, something fun and different and great to support local art!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jason K.Van Nuys, CA97123224Jan 2, 2014
Based on my first two visits, this is pretty nice theater for small productions of quality shows. I saw COMPANY here in April and I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE in December 2013, and I was quite impressed with the talented cast, set and overall production value. The music was limited to a one-man band of piano and some synthesized sounds, but it worked. Direction, choreography and musical direction were all more than you would expect from a small theater company.
As others have pointed out, this theater is located inside part of a church. They share bathrooms which are just outside the theater and easy to access. Beverages and snacks can be purchased and consumed at your seat.
Street parking is easy to find if you know where to look. I personally liked parking on La Maida Street, just behind the church. There was plenty of free, street parking and it was a quick and easy walk through the alley to the church.
If this is your first time, don't be put off by the fact that this theater shares space with a church. It's actually a nice little venue. They have approximately 90 or so comfortable seats and they are general admission only, so be sure to arrive early to choose where you want to sit. I recommend not sitting right next to the piano (stage right), which might drown out the actors at the other end of the stage.
Enjoy the show and thanks for supporting the arts!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
