We really enjoyed stopping at this location! Sharon was incredibly helpful in person and on the phone while we were looking for good places to stop on the Creole nature Trail on the way from Houston. There were fun activities for the kids and the staff was super welcoming and really wanted us all to have a great time. Their recommendations were spot onand we definitely recommend stopping here when you are in Lake Charles especially with kids!

Much of the trail is still not up and running. None of the "lookout towers" on the trails were open. The ferry was not running on the day we went so we couldn't do the whole thing. It was still a pretty drive and the visitor center was very small but interesting.

Part of it is surviving yet storms done much damaged to it !!
Enjoyed city and water views of and around Civic Center area (from other side )and some wildlife. We could get directly to the "beach"area on our walk and enjoyed few reminiscing memories while sitting on the benches.
      Love Lake Charles since 90's
Pray for More Recovery to City, Families and Local tourism favorites !!!

Starting point for the nature trail. Inside you will find restrooms, a small gift shop , maps/brochures, exhibits & displays as well as helpful staff. It's a must stop if you are doing the trail or if you just need a quick bathroom break off the interstate. Will was working behind the desk during our stop and was extremely enthusiastic about the trail and culture of the area and was very helpful in providing info.

I was very entertained by the interactive displays;) My favorite was the music station ....yes I was a big kid "playing" the instruments but I enjoyed every minute. It's an exhibit with different musical instruments with a choice of Zydeco or Cajun music . Once you choose which genre you want to hear, background music starts playing. It's up to you to bring the song to life by "playing" the different instruments: mandolin, washboard, accordion etc. Kids or adults, it's fun ;)

Here you can also smell popular Cajun spices , peek inside a pelican's mouth, hear how common Cajun words and phrases are pronounced , take home a recipe and even try on clothes for a photo opp. Several exhibits also cover the wildlife and plants you will likely see on the trail. Everything is very well done! Definitely worth a stop.

This is the starting point for the Creole Nature Trail and you want to start here to have the ladies behind the counter circle important places on the map. This is in Sulphur right off the highway and there is plenty of parking. Who doesn't love a free attraction?

When you walk in you will be greeted by the ladies at the desk. They will pull out maps and ask if you are driving the route and event if you aren't get the map and let them tell you about it. They circled look out stops and told us where to see big gators and where to pull off for the beach access.

There is a few small exhibits, gift shop and bathrooms if you need them. The exhibits cover the wildlife and plant life that you will see on the drive. Also there is some interactive exhibits that show you how to go crabbing (no live crabs sigh lol), how they make boudain and boils complete with a cabinet you open and squeeze the bottles to smell the spice. They must replace those spices daily because the smell was so fresh. There is also a spot about dolphins and a place where your whole family can be a Louisiana band (insert photo op)!

Outside there is a boat that isn't real despite what my friends thought from the pictures and you can walk in and pretend to be a captain. There is also a large map of the trail outside!

In all seriousness this place is small but, well worth stopping at before you hit the trail. Just make sure you exit around the back and out the side because the entrance is really an entrance only. If you are making the drive make sure you use the bathrooms and take some water! Enjoy the marsh/bayou life and take in the scenery because it is breathtaking!

Stopped by on our way back to Houston and they gave us a map and showed us a way we could take to go through the trails on a different way home. We only did the walking trail almost to Holly Beach due to time but so worth it! It was still chilly but we saw three gators and a ton of babies! Must do! Can't wait to try the other ones next time we're in lake Charles. Will was awesome and so helpful!

This is a great little visitor center to start the drive on the nature trail. We got a map complete with notes on which areas to stop at.

      Great Stop!
      Staff Super Friendly!

We didn't do the Trail Adventure, but did stop at the office/welcome center. The staff was super friendly. The place is small, but offers interactive exhibits, recipes, brochures for everywhere you can think of. Cute tiny gift shop really reasonable priced.

Worth the stop, and might even go back for trail tour.
