Crackers Bar-B-Q Inc

Like all good BBQ joints this place isn't fancy, it's all about the food. And at this place it's really good food. Ribs were huge and sauce is separate so you can taste the BBQ. Great sides too. We would definitely come back.

This place is in a strip mall outside downtown. There was no one else in the place, the girl at the counter was nice, the drinks came in huge Styrofoam cups. I got the chicken sandwich w/ limas & rice and my fiance got the pulled pork lunch plate. My limas & rice were great but had pork in them (which I don't eat, but my fault for not asking at a barbecue place), and my sandwich was disappointing. I expected a real bbq chicken sandwich with all the fixins. What I got was a filleted grilled chicken breast w/ some iceberg lettuce (like, the white tart part of the iceberg), tomato and pickle slices, and mayo packets on the side. The bbq sauce was on the side in squeeze bottles, and all came from jugs my fiance recognized from when he worked in a Pittsburgh wing joint (ie not homemade, which is one of the big things about most good barbecue spots, the homemade sauces). Two of the four sauces were tasty, though, and at least the chicken wasn't dry, even if it wasn't bbq'd. My fiancee said the pulled pork was flavorful and tender, not dry. The decor is also weird for me, the tables and walls covered in photos of hunters and their kills, with animal skins etc. on the walls as well. I get the hunting is a part of a lot of people's lives but it seemed a little gratuitous. I won't say I'm disappointed in Crackers as a whole, but next time I find myself in St. Augustine I'll probably try a different bbq joint.
