This place still has my 5 star rating. You are in excellent care in the hands of Dr. Pham. Since I got surgery on the other side of my jaw, I was less scared of what was to come, so I think I was a better patient this time around.
They place medications in before the surgery, they follow up with you the day after and a week after, and leave really good instructions on healing. It's been a week since my surgery and I can say I haven't felt this great in such a long time! No pain and no clicking in my jaw.
Thank you Merrifield Oral Surgery!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Dec 22, 2022Previous reviewIf this place is covered under your insurance, I highly recommend. Since I had already paid my insurance deductible, my procedure was super affordable. Dr. Pham did a great job with my TMJ arthrocentesis, or jaw flush. The office was understanding that I was late due to multiple lane closures which made my 22 minute commute a 40 minute commute. I always get hung up on needles, and I started to cry pre-op when I was administered anesthesia, but Dr. Pham was super caring and compassionate, reassuring me that I would be okay. Definitely was super loopy afterwards, and I appreciate them reminding me to have someone driving me back home because I wouldn't have been in the right state of mind to on my own.
Super understanding and caring staff, and great aftercare check-in as well. Highly recommend. - Dec 7, 2021
Great practice. Everyone was professional, caring, attentive and made the process a breeze. I had a referral to come here from my dentist office for one extraction. I went for an initial consultation for the dental procedure and they explained everything to me including pricing, answered all of my questions and addressed all of my dental-anxiety concerns.
When I arrived for my procedure, they were timely, introduced me to the assistants and started the procedure. One thing I really appreciated, Dr. Pham explained things to me as she went along and she would ask me how I was doing. I had nonvaccine because there wasn't a need to be put to sleep. My procedure was pretty straight forward. Great bedside manner. They asked if I wanted to play my own music or relaxing sounds. I always bring my headphones and listen relaxing music. Post-op they explained everything, what to expect, instructions about how to take the prescriptions, what to eat, etc. I also went for the follow up, one week later and everything was ok. I will return in a few months time for the last part of the process.
The entire team is amazing. Dr. Pham is amazing. Marketa, the Lead Surgical Tech and Karolina, Surgical Tech, were both amazing. The staff member that explained the pricing was very helpful and informative. I wish I could say even more good things, but I think I've expressed that already. I plan to have my wisdom teeth pulled so I will go back to them for sure.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Zhilla F.Falls Church, VA18135Jun 18, 2022

Im not the best at writing reviews so bare with me. Dr.Pham and two other assistants helped me during my surgury and let me tell you, they are extremely professional and really kind. best place to get your teeth pulled. they knocked me out and I didn't even remember anything. Woke up and didn't feel any pain. they gave me some prescriptions for pain and a disinfectant mouthwash liquid, which really helped take out any food stuck between my teeth or in empty spots. 100% recommend. even the front desk attendent was extremely Kind. wonderful, caring, staff.

Karolina I don't have enough words for her. She is very helpful and kind and provided me with a lot of information and she also followed up with me after the operation to make sure that I'm doing okay or have any questions.

I initially went to Merrifield Oral Surgery since they take my insurance; I went back because I had a very good experience there and knew Dr. Pham would do a good job on the minor oral surgery I needed. She did, in fact, and I appreciated her answering all my questions patiently and expertly. Karolina is a great and kind assistant! The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful, too. No one ever wants to have to go to an oral surgeon, but Dr. Pham and Merrifield Oral Surgery is the place to go when you need a consultation for oral surgery and as good an experience as possible.

I'd grade this place an "A" for the surgery and a "D" for communication with patients. My son had a consultation and the office was supposed to call back after speaking with my son's neurologist about recommended anesthesia. No one called me and eventually I called the office. Fine. These things happen. When I spoke with the office about the plan to use nitrous and a medication to relax my son, I was told TWICE during the call that my son could have a small meal before the surgery. I wrote it down along with the other appointment details.
My very nervous son and I arrive on time and wait 15 minutes and then are told they're running late and it'll be another 25-40 minutes before they can start. Seems like they could have called us and said they were running 40-55 minutes late. The woman next to me said her friend's appointment started very late as well.
We get back to the surgical room and through conversation with the tech she tells us that my son shouldn't have eaten anything for six hours prior to the surgery and now can't have the medication to relax him before the nitrous. I point out that that isn't what we were told and the tech said "I don't know who told you that." Uh, ok. That's a helpful response. She says that it would be "life-threatening" to use the relaxation medication and I emphasize that I'm not trying to insist on using it but I am frustrated that someone in the office told us the wrong info. She asks, a little exasperated, if I want to speak with the doctor. Yes, when there is a change in the plan for my son I want to speak with the doctor, not a tech. The tech continues to do zero to put my son's mind at ease as she's getting him set up for the nitrous and is basically cheerfully ignoring his discomfort. Not reassuring.
The surgery was completed successfully, so that part was good. Everything leading up to it was not good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sophia C.Alexandria, VA366313Jun 22, 2016
Dr Coviello took out my wisdom teeth in May and though I obviously don't remember the procedure, I had no post-op complications. What I do remember was quite pleasant - I was a bit nervous going in (I've never had any surgeries or been put under general anesthesia for any reason) but both he and his staff were friendly and personable and helped put me at ease. They called later that day to see how I was doing, and promptly answered our after-hours questions via text. And, apparently a drugged-up me told one of the nurses/assistants that she looked like she'd make a great best friend, so they have that going for them too (I don't remember this, obviously, but I'm assuming my woozy self wouldn't lie).
The only complaint I have is about the administrative side of things. Most of it was fine - they were very on top of estimating what I would owe after my insurance claim was processed, and had me pay before the procedure, which I didn't mind at all. Then, when I received the EOB from my insurance, it turned out that I had overpaid. This also wasn't a problem - in fact I almost prefer it that way, so I get a refund rather than having to pay extra. And I understand it was an estimate, so I'm not mad about that.
The problem came when I called to ask about the refund after I received this notice. I was told that the cheque would be in the mail within a week or so. This was the end of May. 3 weeks later - still no cheque. I even checked my credit card statements to see if they had somehow refunded my credit card (which was my original method of payment), but they had not. So I had to call again this morning, when I was told that a cheque would be sent out later this week.
Look, I get that things can move slowly sometimes. You have to file the claims, wait for the insurance company to process it, etc. etc. etc. I'm not hard up for the $60 I overpaid, so it's not like I need it back now. But if you didn't know when the cheque would go out, you should have just said that. This is a small thing - but I'm a busy person and prefer not to have to chase things down, and after I had such a great experience with them pre-, during, and post-op, this was not a great last impression.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Roxana K.Vienna, VA312629Jun 6, 2020
Had a great experience with Dr. Gallardo. I had to get my last 2 wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon (had the others just extracted). I did local anesthesia and overall it was better than I thought it would go! The lower tooth I had removed was the most painful (most just intense pressure), so I'd recommend doing general anesthesia is you're nervous at all for the process and don't do well with pain. His office staff was absolutely lovely, and they were all accommodating and helpful. If I got tired during the procedure or needed something, I just would raise my hand. I needed a break (relax the jaw) during the procedure and raised my hand, and apologized. The best thing Dr. Gallardo said during my procedure that was "you don't have to be sorry!". To me that speaks to the care he has and his team. I had to call him a couple days after and he was easily accessible. I'd recommend here, and I was able to use my FEP Blue Dental Insurance too.
