Pretty quaint little spot in a small town. We waited inside for several minutes without being greeted and finally decided we should seat ourselves and then the lady at the front told us to seat ourselves as we walked towards the back. We sat there for a few minutes before a server brought some menus. She seemed pretty annoyed by our presence. All of the much older very conservative looking customers also seemed annoyed that we had came there to eat.
They were out of the appetizer we wanted (onion petals) so we got fried mushrooms. Server was again annoyed when I thought the hot sandwiches on the menu were actual sandwiches instead of just mashed potatoes and gravy on top of meat. I opted for a tenderloin sandwich instead. It was massive and pretty good. The mushrooms were tasty but it was a very small order. A warning would have been awesome since I said "we want" instead of "I want" and it is clearly too small of an appetizer for two people. They're typically a much larger order anywhere else we go. My boyfriend tried some of my sandwich and said it was the best sandwich he'd ever tasted.
He had popcorn shrimp and murpheys mess, neither of which he liked. The server got a lot more friendly right at the very end when I told her that we were sent there on somebody's recommendation who she knew.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eugene A.Keokuk, IA535275Mar 25, 2021

This is our favorite place to eat at in Fort Madison. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Also the staff is always so friendly.

Great value for an authentic Iowa country lunch featuring better than average pork tenderloin sandwiches and pie like your Grandma would bake.
Recommended if you prize pie over wifi.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mark M.Wever, IA018321Oct 5, 2019
Great little cafe right along the highway. Had steak and eggs one Saturday morning and the place was busy. Omelettes were great, too. No credit cards. Fast service.

If you want good home style cooking at a very reasonable price, this is the place to go! Three of us ate for less than $20. My hot beef sandwich came with mashed potatoes. The beef was tender and the gravy was possibly the best beef gravy I have ever had. Another in our group ordered the special, goulash with mashed potatoes, corn, and a roll. He said it was delicious. The third in our group got a tenderloin that looked good and a piece of pie. She said they had the best pies and from the looks of the tables around us that all ordered pie, I am guessing she is right. Sadly I didn't have room to try any. Service is great. Very small town, everyone knows everyone service.
They had homemade dog treats at the register. $3 for a Ziploc baggie full of treats. The pug acts like they are puppy crack.
If you like home style food, you won't be disappointed stopping here and neither will your dog.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura K.Clovis, CA10236Mar 21, 2014First to Review
They lost me as a customer before I came in the door.
Since there was no info on Yelp, I called to confirm they have a lunch menu. The woman sounded annoyed to answer the phone. She confirmed they served lunch and told me their specials. I proceeded to ask if by chance they also had WiFi. She replied, "Are you trying to sell me WiFi?!" Rather shocked, I said, "No... I'm looking for it..."
Needless to say I went elsewhere for lunch.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tara V.Fort Madison, IA1031538Sep 29, 2015

Simple little place. Food is homestyle. In general when I go there it's for breakfast, and I never n leave unsatisfied. Service is always good and prices are very fair.
