On cold Friday Afternoon...
I was on my way to the Ramen place down the street and saw the sign for Cooking Crab, while looking through the pictures while driving the first picture I saw was Yelp free beer... I made a quick turn into the parking lot and decided to eat here. Walked inside and did not see the Yelp Free Beer sign.. I should of kept driving to the Ramen place. LOL.
Sat down looked at the menu and was confused, because it was different from other places just like this one. I asked the server what beers they had on tap and they said they only carry bottles. uugghhhhhhh. After some conversation I had the server pick a beer and he went with the most popular one: Kloud. (This is not a beer review so I'll leave it at that.)
This is a Fusion restaurant and although it stated that in the description, I could not get used to the idea as I am so used to other crab places just like this.
Ordered shrimp, snow crab, rice, kfc wings, side of white rice, side of sausage. I forgot what flavor sauces I got because nothing really stood out as super delicious and the sauces were much different than the other crab places I'm used to.
The KFC came out pretty fast, but everything else took really long.
This was happening at all the tables, people complaining how long the food was taking.
During our wait about 3 different couples sat down looked at the menu confused, then got up and left. I guess they were expecting what I was expecting but decided not to tough it out.
The server brought out the things I ordered in staggered fashion first the shrimp, then 10 minutes later the crab, followed by some more waiting then the side of rice, then 10 minutes later I asked where my side order sausage was. The reply I got was "its cooking let me go check." 5 minutes later I asked again where is my side order sausage. The reply I got was "You ordered two sausages right" ...uugghhhhhh.
Finally the side order came out and we had no napkin roll on our table, so hands covered in sauce and no server to be found I had to stand up and get a napkin roll from another table. The server from across the restaurant looked at me like I was crazy...another ugghhhhh
Finished all the food and the whole experience was forgettable, and I hope they can get their issues fixed so I give 2 stars and extra star to make a total of 3 stars...
Bob Loblaw I should of kept driving to the Ramen place.

A first and last kind of visit... Sadly..
I'm not one to do bad reviews but I just was not satisfied with my visit today..
Came on my lunch with my coworkers, we were craving seafood, and this was the closest that was open on our lunch and we decided to try it out!
When we arrived they were completely empty. We were the only ones inside for quite some time. The waiter was very friendly, a little too friendly but made the visit funny.
Looked at the menu and we asked our server about their lunch special which he did not seem to know about.. He went and asked his manager and I guess that is only good Monday thru Thursday, which their website does not mention. So we decided to order crab and shrimp, Cajun fries, Cajun sausage and corn. The menu by the way does not have any prices what so ever.. Which I do not like to see when I go to a restaurant. So before ordering ask their prices on each item to be aware of how much you might be spending. Anyways, we ordered and when we got our food it was okay, the seasonings were delicious but the seafood wasn't left to sit in it for that long that shrimp and crab seemed a little flavorless. I wish it was left to sit longer to grab all the delicious flavors.
After we are and got our bill we were surprised at how much it came out to. Way more than we expected. Was a little disappointed to be paying so much for an okay meal. I wouldn't mind paying that much if it was off the charts but it just wasn't and I was sad about that. Not sure if it just was the timing of our visit which made our food okay.. But I don't think I would be going back for another visit. Sad to put a review like this but just had to...Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan N.San Jose, CA735930Sep 7, 2015
Looked through yelp for a new place to try and noticed this new establishment with almost 100 reviews and over 3 stars. Was craving some seafood so we decided to give this place a try.
Came with a party of 4 and was seated right away. Looked through their menu and noticed the prices were ridiculously high. $15 /lb for shrimp. $10 for garlic noodles. $13/lb for clams. And $27 /lb for King crab legs. Wanted to play it safe and order a pound of each to try it out
Clams were not good at all. Tasted very slimy and tasted like they were not clean at all. Had a few and had them take it back. Shrimp tasted decent, we picked the Louisiana sauce and level 2 spicy. It tasted a bit bland and a lot to be desired after. Garlic noodles were really bland and you could barely taste any flavor. Fries was a very small basket with a bit of seasoning, did not taste any of the Cajun
Powder in there. We also got the fried rice, it was a little weird because they used the sauce from one of empty bags to make the fried rice. The rice came out pretty plain as well and it looked like what Panda Express would serve if you threw in the sauce.
The staff was friendly, they tried to make the best of the situation. It was the first time I left a restaurant still hungry.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Peter B.Oakland, CA224135Jul 18, 2015
We were looking for the Korea House, but apparently it has changed the the Cooking Crab. It smelled really good so we decided to go on in and try it out even though we were expecting short ribs and pork belly. I don't know why the Korean place went out of business, but this place is probably following suit soon too...
It's the type of place they give you big bibs and gloves to wear. It's nice they gave us those, but unfortunately they don't give you dishes, silverware, serve the food in to-go tins and plastic bags, could only give us one cracker for a party of 7 because they were out of clothes even though there were only 2 other tables being served in the restaurant, and the shears that they brought us to help cut the shells were plastic and broke halfway through the meal.
There was an inordinate amount of confusion about the sauces we wanted to order with the food. They brought the oysters we ordered out after the hot and spicy food had already arrived, ruining those for us, and they forgot to bring us one of the items that we ordered. Luckily we caught that on our way out the door and they prepared the dish for us.
The mussels, crab and shrimp dishes actually weren't too bad, although everything was way too salty. The fries were served lukewarm.
I'm not trying to be a dick. I've worked in food service before and am typically lenient and generous with my reviews. This place just really has a lot of work to do, otherwise it's not gonna make it.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Dear Peter B.,
Thank you for this feedback. Just wanted to let you know, Korea House went out of business and as new restaurant we are still working out the steps of service and the food. We are still in a training process of getting our servers to be as professional and three steps ahead of our customers so they can give you the best experience a possible. We are also getting our kitchen to learn the POS ticketing system in the back of the house. We do apologize and hope that we can have you back in and have some things on the house for you. Please let us know, give us a call or reply when and if you would like to come back. We will have things worked out at that point. we are 2 weeks old and want to improve! - Chih-Hsu Y.Fremont, CA011Oct 21, 2015
Great place to eat even for late dinner. I had a long day and didn't get out until after 9 PM. Somehow my mind was thinking about having raw oysters and found this restaurant that was still open and nearby my hotel.
When I got seated, the waitress was very nice and went over the menu with me. Finally, I ordered a dozen of oysters, Cajun sausages, corn, and a pound of mussels.
My initial thought was that the food would be just an average quality, but when the food was served I am all thumbs up. Not only were the oysters fresh and delicious, but the Cajun mussels and its sauce was done well enough to stimulate my palates.
It was a wonderful meal.
I would surely come back next time !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Naomi H.Santa Clara, CA136561Oct 1, 2015
This place is amazing!!! We came here for lunch, it's been open a couple of months. We ordered a pound of lemon pepper shrimp, a pound of louisiana crab legs level 2, cheese corn, and Cajun fries.
The shrimp was amazing, prefect level of spice and the sauce was buttery not oily like Boiling crab. You can tell they use butter and not oil as their base.
The crab legs, wow! Perfect amount of heat for me and super flavorful.
This place is all about the small details. The glasses are mason jars and their chilled. They give you a bib and plastic gloves so no mess. The service was just fantastic and we got to meet the owner who is eager to make this the best experience!!!
Definitely support this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Siobhan S.Wilmington, NC42115051417Sep 11, 2015
My friend and I had made plans to stop by and grab some lunch in an effort to not have to drive all the way to the Boiling Crab in San Jose. While Cooking Crab isn't exactly like BC- the experience is more or less the same, with some Korean fused into it.
For two people we ordered:
+ Cheesy Corn
+ 1lb shrimp, Louisiana Sauce, level 1 spicy (w/ level 3 spicy on the side just so we could see what kind of heat we were working with, I didn't think either was very hot, but I love the spiciness).
+ add Cajun Sausage (which was basically a hotdog)
+ Mussels
+ Large OB lager
I definitely recommend ordering 1lb/person. We originally started with just a single pound of shrimp to see how much food it would be and it was just barely enough for the both of us, even with the added sides. The mussels (Green, New Zealand I believe), were good, but a little too big for my tastes and in general I prefer PEI or black mussels (though if you like the larger mussels definitely get them!).
I would for sure go back to Cooking Crab if I didn't want to make the long haul to SJ for Boiling Crab or one of several copy cats in that area. Price wise it wasn't too expensive, but it was a little bit pricier for shrimp than some of the other places I have been (I think $15.99/lb vs $9.99/lb-- for shrimp).
I did appreciate the kimchee and daikon they bring out while you eat.
My main concern is that it was pretty slow. For a fairly busy Sunday they only had one server working and he could hardly handle seating tables, taking orders, and delivering food to anyone in a timely fashion. If my friend and I had been in a hurry we would have probably been pretty mad but luckily we were cool with taking our time and relaxing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 14, 2015
They honored the Groupon deal from Korea house, the previous establishment at this location.
For party of 4:
Korean apps - kimchee, etc
Seafood scallion pancakes yum
Fries
Shrimp, sausage, corn
Mussels, sausage, corn
Snow crab yum!
Service was exceptional - they let the kids draw and were so friendly to my three and five year old.
Enjoyable!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - laura f.Los Angeles, CA133367Aug 15, 2015
