Love the coffee here! Just tried their seasonal pumpkin spice latte and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly as it was very crowded in the cafe. We enjoyed an orange and chocolate chip scone which was yummy.

I really love Coffeehound, this location has a nice vibe too - it will be mostly students. The staff here almost never get my order right, sometimes it's what's in my order but usually it's just that they made all orders to go - even when specifically the order is for in-house. I like to not waste the materials in the to-go cups and when they make the cortados to go they don't give you the sparkling water.

House Cortado is the way to go if they make it correctly - troy h.Normal, IL04Jul 14, 2023
This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had at a coffee shop. The counter person was ridiculously rude BUT I did discover Normal's Good Coffee House called Coffee House. Short walk after the disrespectful service and found this place. Very attentive employees and great coffee and deli selection. The experience helped me find this gem!!

Central Illinois is blessed to have such an amazing coffee shop. Seriously. I used to go to Coffee Hound all the time when I went to college at IWU. My husband and I were in town for a wedding and stopping at Coffee Hound was one of our top priorities. 7 years later, this coffee still rocks. Keep up the good work!

Prior to the pandemic, I absolutely loved this location. Seating remains clustered together, not taking advantage of the space. The call ahead ready table is only accessible by walking past and between numerous other tables, rather than being at the front of the store to make it accessible. And most problematic, the online ordering system frequently fails me. My order is often ready 10 or 15 minutes beyond the 15+ minutes the system already gave me, the curbside text and call in number does not function, and I've had to try to get several of my orders now refunded because after half an hour the drink still wasn't ready. Love the business, and want it to remain - and the staff is still the area's best, but they're really having problems integrating order ahead technology then flow within the store to the point of once-loyal customer is now preferring alternate coffee locations.

Whatever it was, it's noted. It remains an excellent fixture of Uptown Normal, offering a great selection of their own roasted coffees, specialty drinks, and a few frozen options. The staff continues to be incredibly knowledgeable, and it is the place to see and be seen in Uptown for caffeination options.
A few problems still belabour Coffee Hound, though, most specifically early closings (most nights by 6pm) and limited power outlets. It can also get busy and SRO during certain times (finals/exam time, homecoming weekend, Uptown events, etc.); but that's really not their problem and they've been better about working through people as quickly as they can.Nov 20, 2014Previous reviewRecently, there have been several systemic problems in ordering that are making Coffee Hound less attractive. I don't know if it's a barristo or point-of-sale system problem; but about every other order I've placed has been screwed up (Wrong size, wrong milk, wrong drink entirely) and often wait time for drinks have been long (15-20 minutes) even with three or four people behind the till. While I still want to frequent the local business and support what they have done to revitalize Uptown and the area near ISU; it's increasingly more difficult to justify going to Coffee Hound over other, more corporate, options nearby.
Jun 29, 2014Previous reviewSome of the best coffee in the region. The baristas are awesome: Friendly, service-oriented, and painstakingly educated about roasting, brewing, and aromatic theory. These folks really know their stuff, and continually strive to make each customer's day and experience brighter. The coffee menu is a little limited; but everything on it is exquisitely done--everything they do they do perfectly. It's the only place in central Illinois to get a true, European espresso, served with cold water.
Within walking distance of Illinois State University in quaint Uptown Normal, the Uptown Coffee Hound location is frequented by a mix of college students and locals. Save finals time and (for mystic reasons known only unto the Sorcerer Supreme) between 10am and noon when classes are in session, it's often busy but with a seat somewhere to sit and savor. Wifi is free, the Hound is clean and friendly, often with the baristas' eclectic personal mixes on the radio providing an excellent coffee shop ambiance.
A word of warning: Parallel parking immediately in front of the Hound (i.e,. across the street from the post office) will leave your car dinged and dented. At least daily I see some mook who can't parallel park back into bikes, parked vehicles, and sometimes even pedestrians. There's perpendicular parking on the adjacent street and garage parking next to the bust/train station. If you can't parallel park and/or value your car's resale value, park nearby and take the 2-minute walk.
The only reason I mark this a 4- rather than 5-star review is the hours. Particularly for something near a college campus, that it closes daily at 6p (and sometimes at 5p) frustrates me. I often am in a good work run and need to migrate elsewhere to finish because they're closing. While I appreciate market demands and the owners' consideration of their staffs' schedules, a coffee shop adjacent to a university closed before dinner makes my teeth itch--I'd love to see them open later. Other than that, exactly what a small-town, locally-owned coffee shop should be. The ultimate in caffeination in blo/No. - Aleka F.IL, IL04May 28, 2023
Very cute little coffee shop. Great options, and they have a variety non-coffee options. Seasonal drinks are fun and tasty. Drinks are a good price and very worth it.

This is a fantastic coffee spot. There basic drip coffee has left me thinking I need to go back. Can I have it shipped to Chicago? I hope so!

As someone who doesn't like coffee I had never gone into coffee hound. However my best friend loves it so I went once with him. I had the Italian soda and it was fantastic the amount of syrup was perfect and it was a great Italian soda. If you do not like coffee, coffee hound is still a great place to go to for some great drinks. As well as I have heard their smoothies are fantastic I will try those next!!
