Chuck's is consistently good-whether it's brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour or for a drink. The dishes are creative and unique-not that many good options for Cajun, not to mention also good BBQ and bar food.
Etoufee, chipotle bbq wings were great on the most recent trip and Maria, who waited on many tables and tended the bar, was a real pro!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 28, 2013Previous reviewI was (and still am) excited about Chuck's opening a second location in the western 'burbs. Reading some early reviews and just common sense gave me some pause to going right away so they could work out service and the usual start up flaws.
As part of 2 couples who were there for dinner last Friday night, we had what is likely a similar experience as others. Good food, atmosphere inside the main restaurant/surrounding bar area, but uneven, slow service.
As a former banquet location, the entrance is very odd with the usual white everywhere with chandeliers, but would rather just get right to it. The bar area and restaurant is much more spread out and modern than the original location, but that is part of what makes the original Chuck's unique.
The menu of course is unique and varied, but combining 3 of my favorite eating tastes-Cajun, Tex Mex, and BBQ-is always something to look forward to. I tried the blackened Cajun filet mignon tails. Really good-spice was somewhat "creeper" and the steak was good. Sides-Cajun green beans and mac and cheese were really tasty. Wife's carne asada special looked good and friends bbq combo did as well. The nachos to start were o.k. a little heavy on the thin mild bbq sauce.
Great beer list (draft and bottled) and dessert was good as well (banana bread pudding).
Service was odd-long gaps (15+ minutes) between seeing any sign of our waitress who was friendly and did a solid job, but we were there a lot longer than we should have been-probably something they'd want to avoid in order to rotate diners in and out. Bar Manager (Brian) was friendly as was a runner (didn't catch his name, but he brought every plate of food we ordered.
Will try again in the near future and recommend to others. - Erica Z.Palos Hills, IL1659260Dec 15, 2023
Ordered carry out.
Ordered a bowl of gumbo - the bowl was in a small container - not very much at all. Contents was mostly broth.
Ordered 1lb of brisket. Received three small containers of bbq sauce - containers were maybe half full.
Everything was very good - disappointing that their carry out quality has gone down.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 2 - 199395222Nov 24, 2023
We've gotten take out once and dined in twice. Chuck's is so so good. The menu is large and there's an interesting mix of options - BBQ, Mexican, and Cajun. We've tried a handful of dishes and our favorite by far is the chicken fried chicken. The breading is nicely seasoned and the chicken is moist. The side of mashed potatoes and green beans are perfect as well. We get the chicken fried chicken every time! We've also had the ribs, enchiladas, and etouffee. These dishes were all solid- nice flavors and cooked well- but none of these were particularly standout. The ribs we had could have been more tender, but the mild BBQ sauce was delicious. The chicken inside the enchiladas were moist, but the tortillas were a little thick. I don't really like mole sauce, but I enjoyed the sauce in the enchiladas. It wasn't super sweet or chocolate-ty. I would get the enchiladas again. The shrimp on the etouffee were delicious and large, but the chicken was dry.
This past time we ended our meal with a pumpkin cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious! They have a great beer menu, which my husband loves. The service is always super friendly! And there's plenty of seating, so we never had to wait. We're definitely planning to come back frequently!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 10, 2024
It's been awhile since I've been to Chuck's it's nicely decorated, big booths for 6-8 people, clean and separated from the bar area so you can talk without having to speak over tv's and those people who are at the bar area. The waitress was great and efficient. Waters and a basket of buns with butter placed on the table. I ordered the rib tips, it came with 2 sides; I chose Mac and cheese and Cajun seasoning fries. The portions were large and I was able to take food home. The rib tips were great tender and the mild bbq sauce hit the spot. The Mac and cheese was creamy with a good cheesy taste and the seasoned fries were crispy with a good Cajun taste. My husband selected the brisket sandwich. He barely talked as he enjoyed his sandwich which was a good size and the bun held together well. Everything was good and the place was a plus! We will be back and give this Cajun restaurant a try. They do have special events in the evenings, brunches, etc!

Went here for the first time in about year, still pretty good food. Today I got the catfish. Hot and crispy, comes with fries and cole Slaw. Pretty good. Not great but pretty good. Had the seafood gumbo as well. There soups are generally on point.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 5, 2019Previous reviewShhhhh!!! It's a secret, chuck's has good breakfast. My favorite thing to get is the country skillet. Bacon, sausage links, smoked ham. Add some green pepper, onion, cheese, and potatoes (get cajun style), and you can't go wrong. Now it comes with the standard choice of toast or pancake maybe biscuit can't remember, however I recommend the pancake, upgrade, specifically the Louisiana Sweet Potatoe Pancake. I don't know what they taste like in Lousiana but this one in Darien might be the best pancake ive ever had, it's so good. Next time I'll review the lunch/dinner.

The first time I had Chucks was Easter 2022. It wasn't dine in, I picked it up.
This time around, my girlfriend and I ate in. We decided to sit out back in the patio. It was such a nice day. They have umbrellas over all the tables, and the patio is enclosed for privacy.
Our waitress was extremely friendly. She was quick with our drink orders, and we put in our food order quickly too.
I recommend the jalapeño cornbread muffins to start, delicious! I had a pulled pork sandwich with fries and macaroni as my sides. Please note that they limit you to 3 sides, but the food is filling!
My girlfriend had a bacon cheeseburger with mashed potatoes. Everything was great. Highly recommend.
The parking may seem strange to first-timers, but just swing around to the back to park, and then walk to the side to go inside.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 8, 2023Updated review
Came in tonight for birthday dinner. Thought maybe crayfish being in season there might be crawdad specials. No such luck. The Cajun dishes were all shrimp and andouille and of course the catfish. But the walleye special looked good, and I thought something fresh and different would be a good choice, even if it wasn't really Cajun or southern.
The restaurant is still done up for Mardi Gras. Especially the bar area. It's a big place and certainly caters to an active bar crowd.
We started with the boudin balls. They were excellent. Dirty rice and beans packed tight with andouille and pulled pork, fried up with lots of Cajun seasoning, like the Cajun version of arancini.
Next, I had the walleye dinner special. It was a lot of fish on a plate of fries with slaw and a jalapeño cheddar muffin. The walleye was the best I have ever had. The fish was tender and juicy inside the batter. And the beer batter on the fish and fries was delicious. Exceptional.
Too much food to have room for dessert, so I boxed some of my dinnerdinner to make room. But the peach cobbler was a sore disappointment. It wander really bad, but quite obviously not peach at all. It has the appearance, flavor and texture of cinnamon applesauce cobbler. It was covered with 2 huge scoops of ice cream, and plenty for two of us to share. But sadly not at all what we ordered.
Overall a very good meal, even if it didn't end on the highest note.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 13, 2014Previous reviewDelicious southern food and barbecue in the burbs... and a very nice bar with lots of TVs. The owner mills around busing tables and making sure things are on track. I loved the catfish and you have to have the Chuck's Crabcakes!
Only downside is it was a little pricey for comfort food. - Susan C.Downers Grove, IL0599Mar 27, 2024
Good for comfort food Saint Patrick's day dinner, and family dinners out. Food and service is always good.
They also have a nice relaxed bar area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - A C.Darien, IL0474Dec 9, 2023Updated review
