The best kept secret in BBH; Florida Keys feel with cool, well-tanned crowd double fisting Mojitos and enjoying vacation. Excellent bartender last year(Mark?) who was quick with a joke. The food can be hit or miss though the Chowder is spot on. Grab the stern end of the boat(yes it's actually a boat) and spend an afternoon playing cribbage with the owner.(available by chance or appointment I'm told)
A must visit in Boothbay, been there forever but even the locals can't find it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 24, 2016
Terrible menu but the bar outside is very nice. Bartender was great and it got a bit of a breeze on a warm night that other nearby places didn't have. The menu was terible and explained why on a night when many other places were packed, they were virtually empty except for people at the bar. It was the worst menu I've seen in Maine and it seemed to me like they weren't even making an attempt to be decent. We tried to order the chowder but they were out of it at 7pm on a sunday night. Other than that we didn't order anything and we were starving. The menu was that much of a let down.
We might go back for the bar before eating somewhere else. Maybe new ownership will come along and bring life to the restaurant. It's a nice setting. Too bad you can't eat here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karolyne R.Lone Tree, CO18102323Aug 11, 2016
Damn. I've never seen servers/waitresses treat people with such rudeness. We walked in and sat at the bar. They never smiled or greeted us. I had to ask for an ice tea after the "manager" ignored my boyfriend and I twice when we asked. A couple walked in after us and sat right in front us. The man had to walk over to the servers and manager to place his order, and when he did, NO ONE LOOKED AT HIM OR SAID A WORD AFTER.
Our food was good and quick, but holy hell these people are so rude (excluding the cook)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Edgar Z.Rio Grande, Puerto Rico06Aug 28, 2017
Nicely located by the walkway bridge. Smoked salmon chowder was good, with lots of salmon. But the chicken sandwiches were tiny and overcooked, served with a bag of chips and nothing else.
Finally, to make the meal especially un-memorable, everything was served on styrofoam and plastic, even though we were sitting down for lunch.
Bottom line, mediocre food served on the cheap for prime prices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael C.Denver, CO45283686Aug 11, 2016
The food comes out fast and it is decent. The real problem is the service. It has an obvious entitled socialist east cost workers. You pre tacky have to beg them to refill an ice tea and they don't even bother to look at you when you order.
The phenomenon what's not isolated to one employee or one groups of customers. It was systemic.
I believe that their or so many tourists here they just depend I being a restaurant on the shoreline and the rest is a formality.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David T.Murfreesboro, TN58132Aug 13, 2018
This place was awesome! They have a little boat bar you can sit at right on the water. Great beer selection and the Chowders were on point. We ate here twice on our trip. Tried the Clam, Haddock and Corn chowders and they were all great in their own way. Try this place if staying in Boothbay. You won't regret it.

We wanted a salad and a glass of wine for lunch. While I searched for those two items, I found a quirky outdoor bar serving those items and more. The covered patio features a wooden sailboat which serves as a casual bartop where we enjoyed our meal. Great foods, served on recyleable , disposable plates. the clam chowder was reminiscent of a Rhode Island style with a less creamy, but really flavorful broth. The homemade potato salad was the bomb- firm and flavorful, just the right anount of mayo. The service was wonderful, and complimented by the warm sunny weather at low tide.

Nice firepit. Slow service. Expensive!!!
Son ordered a grilled cheese which consisted of a bagged hamburger roll with two slices of Amercian cheese. No, really!
A bowl of lobster stew was very small...in a styrofoam cup and was only fair but the lobster roll had little lobster and was loaded with lettuce as a filler. The macaroni and cheese was not even as good as boxed kraft mac and cheese and was laced with nutmeg or something...probably to disguise the terrible taste.
A bowl of stew, a lobster roll, a grilled cheese and a bit of mac and cheese, a small glass of wine and a ten or twelve ounce draft beer was 68 bucks and change. Portions were so small that we went looking for pizza after dinner...but everything here closes after 8. : ( #hungryandbrokeatchowderhouseboothbayHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Linda B.Ocean City, MD2631153Aug 30, 2015
The atmosphere was pleasant. We met a very nice couple. The food was very good. The food was cooked on a grill full of flavor. We enjoyed our meal and the scenes. Pleasant owner and staff.

Avoid this place... it's just a bar that has decent chowder.
I wanted to like this place (cool name, and I really like good clam chowder) but this place is a disaster.
We went at 5pm on a Wednesday, so not a busy time. Service was really slow. The lobster roll and crab sandwiches were just okay... much better options in Boothbay. T
The "restaurant" has a cool looking boat as the centerpiece of the bar, which is where everything is centered. To me it's a place for someone to go and get a drink and maybe a light bite to eat (Chowder, and that's about it).
The server seemed a little put out when we requested water to go with our meals and not drinks... mind you my group consisted of a 6, 10 & 13 year-old (and it was 10 minutes to get the water). There are no kids items on the menu, either... it's really an adult place / bar.
The simple process of paying was an adventure, too. From the time I had my credit card out and signaled that we wanted to check-out, it was another 15 agonizing minutes. And, the place wasn't even busy. The server was courteous, but came across as disingenuous... going through the motions.
I'll never be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
