"The Spice Is Right"
My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. This is not your standard, cheap, generic, Chinese Food. It can be a little pricey but the food has never disappointed and the delivery is quick!
You must, must, MUST try the Mint Fried Rice. Just enough of a spicy kick balanced with a hint of mint and plenty of chicken. The portion is HUGE and will provide you with leftovers for lunch the next day (or a cold midnight snack!)
Probably the best Egg Rolls we have both ever eaten. They are perfect! Fresh tasting, not oily, and actually contain ingredients you can easily identify. (none of those suspicious pork strands)
The Egg Drop Wonton Soup is like none other. The freshest wontons I have ever had and they add corn to the broth for a delicious flavor combination.
But wait... there's more!
Crab Rangoon like you would have never imagined. These beautiful little origami like starfish shapes are serious bites of heaven. Also, the Boneless Spare Ribs are tasty and the beef and broccoli is a an easy go-to.
They offer other cuisines like Japanese but I have yet to venture into these.
China Spice closes at a fairly reasonable time, so don't procrastinate.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Paul H.Manhattan, NY199354192Dec 22, 2014
Summary:
Super fast Chinese delivery in the UES providing some very yummy Chinese. Amazing replacement for the defunct Asian Station!
The Food:
Ordered delivery from these guys the other night for my nephews from out of town. I have to say that this about the freshest Asian fare I've had delivered since the closing of Asian Station. Every single dish was very well prepared and super tasty. We ordered some soups (wonton, egg drop) which were delicious with lots of flavor. It was about the best egg drop soup I've had. We also got a couple rolls of sushi which were very fresh (big plus when concerning raw fish). The sesame chicken dinner box was the best I've had in a long while. They actually put in some vegetables along with the chicken which was a great touch. The portions were massive for what I'm used to with UES delivery, another big plus.
The Service:
Ordered at 5:50pm and had hot food at my doorstep at 6:18. I've never had faster delivery! Splendid!
Recommendations/Notes:
I'll definitely try to make a visit to see the physical location, but this is my new go-to spot for some last minute seamless ordering.
Definitely give the soups a try, especially the egg drop soup. Good stuff!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 7, 2014
Delivery is always within 45 or less. Sometimes its crazy fast.
But heres what its all about...
Three roll lunch special for 12
Now everyone does this but two things set chinaspice apart from the rest
1. 8 peices per roll. More food for your
Money
2. Miso soup AND two springrolls.
My go to lunch sushi
I just cant justify spending money on a 6 peice roll anymore...
Highly recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Johanson R.Manhattan, NY595May 31, 2017Updated review
Ordered from here two nights ago and I must say it will be my last time. I ordered cheese wontons and a order of chicken and broccoli. I would have gave one star but the reason I'm giving two stars is because the cheese wontons were amazing. They were fried to perfection and arrived hot. The cheese inside the wontons had a lot of favor and just the right amount of cheese. All I can say is amazing.
After the wontons I thought I was going to have another wow moment with the actual food but oh boy was I wrong.
The chicken with broccoli was not at all pleasant. First off they should have warned me that the brown sauce in which the chicken and broccoli is cooked in has ginger (never had ginger in my chicken and broccoli before and I've eaten many orders) and I mean A LOT OF GINGER, and to top it off the chicken and broccoli tasted as if the chicken was frozen, melted in a hurry than cooked the day before heated in a microwave and sent out to be delivered. It tasted as if I actually bit into a live chicken. It wasn't pleasant. That's why they get two stars.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 12, 2016Previous reviewOrdered from her two nights ago and I must say it will be my last time. Szechuan Cottage RIP - you truly were the best on York.
China Spice does NOT offer the same great specials, portions as it's predecessor (especially lunch portions) and according to the menu aspires to offer more than the run of the mill Chinese. That being said the new soups on the menu are amazing - the beef chowder is a must try, other dishes tried so far have had better meat quality but standard sauces. Looking forward to tring a few more items, def going back for more soup.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sharon O.Manhattan, NY1401May 21, 2012
The food here is amazing. It's more expensive than the standard Chinese. But the unusual combinations available here are excellent. The wait staff is terribly hard working. There was only 1 waiter for the whole place and he didn't stop all night. luckily for him, the place wasn't crowded. It never seems to be crowded. I'm guessing this is for two reasons. One is the prices. They are high. Not over priced. But. not cheap.
The other reason has to be the unbelievably rude management. I'm assuming the woman who is behind the register is management. If not, she should be shifted as soon as possible as she's officially lost me as a customer. I've stopped by a few times. I really love he food. But she's just so awful. To customers as well as to the poor haggard waiter.
I recently purchased a coupon to see if I didn't mind her so much given a price break. But no. She's awful.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Samantha F.Hudson Valley, NY13178Oct 6, 2011
I thinkeverything here tastes really fresh, RARE for a chinese place. First time I've had chinese and didnt feel over-stuffed after. This place has a different menu than most chinese places but I liked it. Dumplings were amazing, however, wonton soup tastes like water. Needless to say, i order from them a few times a week =/
They let me go when I was a dollar short once! Thought that was really nice.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda K.Manhattan, NY05May 2, 2012
Soooooo hungry! Waited a full hour for delivery, it took three phone calls, a lot of back and forth with the lady on the phone, and after the food finally did come they had to bring us the brown rice and egg rolls they forgot! At first it wasn't clear if they had gotten the order at all, and the lady said something about not having paperwork from Delivery.com, which pays them a month after the order..... I dunno, I was just starving and they couldn't explain what was going on. We were also charged for a tip on Delivery.com, but that somehow didn't make it onto the delivery man's tip, so we needed to pay him cash.
When the food did arrive it was fine - chicken and broccoli that tastes like all the others, regular egg rolls, but watery, not very flavorful mapo tofu. We pass this restaurant all the time and feel sorry that it's empty, and ordered basically to be neighborly and give them some business. But we tried, and I don't think we're doing this again! There are only so many things a Chinese restaurant needs to do - and fast delivery is kind of #1.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katie C.Manhattan, NY43561Oct 20, 2014
The Egg Rolls are the closest to an Australian "CHIKO ROLL" I've had here - that's a good thing!
Shumai are standard but fine.
Good late night snacks!
Quick delivery.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - DM D.Quakertown, PA90676Sep 11, 2016
Boo. This place gets two stars because it's fast and cheap, also the people were nice enough. It's def not a place that anyone would want to sit down and eat but it is clean.
We got the pad Thai and Dan Dan noodles. The pad Thai was ok very average the chicken was a little I dunno wonky. Like it didn't make me feel very confident about it it's hard to articulate it. And the dan Dan noodles were just awful. I've had Dan Dan noodles before and they had the minced pork on top these ones were dry?
Well the dogs really liked it all, we really didn't like it that much. It's disappointing because this place is cheap.
Another note when I walked to go pick it up I was like where the heck is this dang place? It's in the abi Abu something or other Asian fusion place. That's weird.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
