This place is under new ownership since the last time I came in a few years ago. The owner was behind the counter and greeted us and we discussed her taking over around and year and a half ago. She was very friendly and helpful with selections.

Still a very clean ice-cream joint on a strip off Great Neck and Mill Dam Rd, but gone is the gourmet caliber product of the previous owner. They now carry Hershey's which everyone seems to carry.

I got a Butter Pecan and my daughter got a Superman. No complaint from either one of us on the taste, but the cost of $8 for two medium cups seems high for the downgrade in quality.

Like the place, would even come back if in the area, but there are other places that do it better and cheaper.

With the Ben and Jerry's gone now, we in the Great Neck/Shore Drive area have few options for ice cream beyond the grocery store. When Chill opened up a while ago I was intrigued, but finally had the opportunity to visit them. I'm sorry I waited so long; it's a lovely little place. It's clean with friendly service, and there's a nice selection of hard ice cream flavors - no soft serve that I saw. A scoop is just under three bucks for an adult, which I suppose is standard for parlors now. I had the cake batter flavor which wasn't too sweet and very authentic.

They also do shakes and sundaes, and there were a few lower fat options. Can't wait to try them again.

Cute, clean, and very friendly. Great selection of flavors- the lemon ice and raspberry frozen yogurt were delicious. This was the perfect place for a lazy Saturday afternoon; ice cream cones and watching cartoon network on their TV.

Parking is a little tight, but if you can find a spot you'll be very happy.

This is another of the small, individually-owned food places that dot Great Neck Rd in Va Beach --- here, a smallish ice cream parlor, located in the smallish strip mall behind the Wendy's at the corner of Mill Dam Rd. It's been open somewhere over two years, and has done a nice job in supporting the local community, initially by becoming a business Partner In Education with the Va Beach City Public Schools, and then by developing a special effort with Great Neck Middle School, which is just a few blocks further north up Great Neck Rd. Additionally, they make a real effort in planning in-store events for the local kids, and are currently promoting birthday parties at the store, complete with magicians, clowns, and, of course, ice cream and cake. Although small, the store is bright, clean and very pleasant to visit. And the waitstaff is almost all young, perky HS girls, always with big smiles and an eagerness to please.

While the store's attractive layout, pleasant vibe and happy waitstaff are great, their product offerings, unfortunately, are only average. There are usually somewhere around 20 different ice cream flavors and three or four different types of cones and cups available; the ice cream, I believe, started out to be home-made, but is now purchased from a company called the Ice Cream Club, I think a private-labeled Hershey's brand. There are some unique flavors --- the spumoni is probably my favorite --- but the butterfat content and overall richness and creaminess of all the flavors I've tried have been no more special than the Edy's or Blue Bunny that you might buy at the grocery store. And the large list of frozen yogurts and ices that were initially available has currently shrunk in size to, I think, only two each. Chill has recently added grilled hot dogs and pretzels to their menu, but this seems to me to denigrate the "cute little ice cream parlor" vibe the store seemed to be going for when they first opened --- and it certainly adds to the trash on the floors after a group of kids leave the store.

So what's happened to the really rich, creamy, high butterfat ice cream market? Probably higher costs, a greater health-consciousness by most folks, and fro yo. I've not seen commercially-available rich, high butterfat ice cream available for a long time --- it's probably true that, if you want to sell that kind of ice cream, a business has to make it themselves. There's a very successful fro yo place a few blocks away from Chill that always seems busy, and it started a year or so ago with the same community-oriented business plan that initially made Chill so successful. So I don't think it's their community spirit and kid orientation that makes Chill not quite work for me --- I think it's just their ho-hum product offerings. Except, maybe, for their spumoni.

cute little ice cream shop offering ice cream and retro-ish candies. they also have roller hot dogs.

i thought this place made their own ice cream, but they get their ice cream from a manufacturer called THE ICE CREAM CLUB.

the ice cream is very good, but their prices are a bit high for the amount you get.

      flavors we tried were:
      cotton candy
      mint chocolate
      chocolate -- called captain ??something??
coffee -- eyes wide open : kinda like a semi-creamy granita
      blueberry cheesecake : SUPER YUMMY!

Very friendly service. I had a scoop of coconut and one of peanut butter and chocolate in a fresh waffle cone. Delicious. My other half got one scoop smurf and one scoop birthday cake. He loved his too.

This place was a bit overpriced and crowded with teens. The staff was nice and the ice cream was pretty good. Worth a second shot when there isnt so many kids in it.
