This is a gem in Staten Island! Authentic French food cooked by an authentic Parisian who is friendly and loves feedback on his food. The place is nice and cozy. BYOB.
I was thrilled that this establishment was on Groupon otherwise I may have never gone. It made it more affordable because when you are done with appetizer, entree and desert you're looking at well over $100 ( before tip)
Everything I've ever had here was amazing. The pasty puff usually comes with salmon but he substituted shrimp for me Delicious cheese fondue and great deserts. The creme brûlée is my absolute favorite.
In addition to the restaurant there is a mini market where you can purchase amazing chocolates, pastries, home made butter , home made potato chips and many other items. Everyone should go in to either eat or shop to bring home.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Walter V.McGuire AFB, NJ265076Dec 21, 2016
Was craving some dessert items so I got a red velvet cupcake, apple pie tart and a bottle of sparkling pear juice. I arrived and found no one there which was a surprise considering it is the holiday season.
The red velvet cupcake was dry and absolutely flavorless. I never had a velvet cupcake that was tasteless before, but this one was just plain awful. The frosting was stale. Gave me the impression that it sat in the fridge for quite a while.
The apple pie tart looked delicious but looks can be deceiving. The filling of apple was not homemade but from a can. It even tasted slightly metallic which was an instant turn off. The crust was hard and stale. Probably like the velvet cupcake counterpart, sat in the fridge for a while.
Finally the sparkling pear (1 bottle for $6 and 2 for $10). This clenched my review for 2/5. This place has no quality control. Desserts that are supposed to be fresh are stale and hard. Even the pear juice was expired. See photo. Tasted OK but now I know why it was 2 for $10.
Going to avoid this place and shop at a real bakery with customers and quality control.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paula Y.Staten Island, NY1852418Apr 18, 2015
Oh my god, I absolutely love this place. It's so cozy with a decadent homey taste. The potato gnocchi in the portobello cream sauce with shrimp is TO DIE FOR. I also can't get enough of their bakery goods. My favorite had to be the hot chocolate souffle, you have to order it at least 30 minutes ahead but it's so worth it.
Can't wait to come here for brunch ^_^Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle S.Staten Island, NY211421887Mar 6, 2014
Went here for a really great brunch with my husband. It's BYOB, so bring a bottle of champagne and ask for some OJ to make your own Mimosas. :)
The merguez sausage and scrambled egg crepe was just delicious! Comes on a buckwheat crepe and a small side salad. So big I had to take it home.
Such a nice little neighborhood spot. They even have a little grocery there with French mustard, jam, etc. Be sure to take home some pastries too.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - LetMe B.Long Island, NY06933Apr 20, 2013
I have been to Laurents' for a number of years. First, FOOD IS EXCELLENT. Laurent is a man who knows food. This is what keeps us going back and literally eat out of his hands. It's great that there is at least one real French restaurant on this island. It is sad to see people go on and on about the price, as if that's the only criteria for a decent meal. Yes, it's a no brainer that a decent French meal will set you back more than Chinese take-out and pizza.
Now here comes the however part, Laurent and his wife are not the most warmest people. Yes they will push you to order beverages, appetizers and desserts. But if you just can't eat that much, or budget minded, just stand your ground and politely decline, also remind them that they need to bring you water. The point is, the place is about food worth splurging on and not much else, focus on the food, eat and pay. Bon appetit!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bianca B.Chelsea, Manhattan, NY1866044Feb 19, 2017
Absolutely delicious place. Please do not overlook the ambience for the food - the food is insanely good. The croissants and homemade jam (which I usually hate jam) were magnificent. So crunchy, flaky, but so doughy and buttery on the inside. You can tell the jam is made fresh. Tastes like the filling of an awesome jelly donut! I ordered the eggs florentine & French toast (did half and half with my boyfriends mom) and we were obsessed! Best hollandaise sauce I've ever had. And I'm a sucker for eggs hollandaise. I always order it. The French toast was buttery and crispy - just the way it should be. And the fruit that came with it was so fresh and ripe! That's hard to come by.
The only thing I was sad about is that they served fake maple syrup instead of real- like it was aunt jemima, I felt with food so good you need the good Canadian stuff. I didn't use syrup but the French toast genuinely didn't need it.
Again, the ambience is off because it's a little dated and off in a random lot- but the food is nothing less than extraordinary. I'm a sucker for atmosphere but I'm willing to overlook it when the food is this delicious.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eugenia T.Staten Island, NY594045Oct 30, 2015
If I could give zero stars I would. I had purchased a groupon during the summer to try the place. The groupon was for dinner for two. I called in July to make a reservation and was told dinner service starts end of September. Just a few days ago, my boyfriend calls to make a dinner reservation and was told dinner ended in summer. Then he was told they were only closed Monday's and when he went on Tuesday they were closed.
Still willing to give the place a chance, I went with my boyfriend and mother for lunch today. We arrive and it takes waitstaff a long time to even approach us to give us menus. A big caution of warning: there is no food grade posted and there is a little child running around behind the counter with occasional squealing.
We finally order and wait for food to arrive. Service was kind of slow. When food arrived, my mothers salad had many wilted/mushy leaves throughout and the egg n ham crepe was semi burnt. And not well made either. Other places such as Alor Cafe makes vastly superior crepes. The water had particles floating not through it so my boyfriend and mother were terrified of drinking from it. We "finish" our meal and try to ask for the check. It took us a while to find waitstaff to even ask for the check. The staff tells us the bill was $36 something and that we must purchase to $40 and cannot leave unless we do so. I even said can we just pretend I ordered and leave it at that? No. So we were forced to buy two more desserts for $4. Then the bill arrives to a total of $43.60. Now I have to shell out extra money all for food I did not want or enjoy.
Never ever coming back to this horrid establishment with terrible food and absent service. Couldn't get their open service times correct, misleading information, horrible food, terrible service, and "must buy" attitude.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Susan J.Bulls Head, NY19610Nov 5, 2015
For party of 4, $60 includes 22% tips. Didn't realize my $40 groupon expired yesterday, so the chef deduct $17 off (which is purchased prx) from the bill, instead of $40. The chucks of salad was served rotten. Seems just removed from packaging without washing n directly serve to customer. Coffee is weak, no taste. Food is ok. Door is open, lots flies n bake good are sitting on trays without cover at kitchen area. Service is ok. can be better!

I am usually very easy to please. I went to this restaurant with my husband after he received a reasonably priced gift certificate from a student for this restaurant, and what started as the expectation of a good meal thanks to a student turned into digging out my wallet to pay a wad of extra cash to pay for the difference.
After reading other reviews on Yelp, I was intrigued by the idea of some culture on Staten Island. Wow, culture on Staten Island? Who knew? However, we were quickly disappointed when we sat down at this very tiny restaurant (with lots of potential) and felt suffocated by the constant suggestions of the waitstaff and ultimately, the chef. Though polite enough, there was an air of pressure as my husband and I tried to remain within our budget with the expectation of spending a little extra after noticing the pricey menu. However, being the wimps that we are, we ended up sensing the disdain of the chef when he heard our simple order, and we ended up ordering two extra things that were at best, okay to the taste.
The food would have tasted oh, so much better, had it been priced right. The food was o--kay. Fine. Not very attractive to the eye, and though the portion was good, the meat was not very tender for the price, and the sauce was slathered on in a rather unseemly manner. I would not recommend this place. You're better off at a less original, but delicious Chinese take-out like Crown Palace, or a nice, trendy pop restaurant like Bonefish Grill if you want a "no-cook-night" of dinner.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
