My son has been enrolled in the preschool class at Chesterbrook since January of this year. I have been more than ecstatic with how much he has learned and developed in these nine months. The learning environment at Chesterbrook has exceeded my personal expectations as a first time mom and what I envisioned he would be learning in Pre School.
With the academic and fundamental progression that I have seen thus far, I am more than confident that when he graduates from Chesterbrook he will have the skill set required to advance to first grade with ease. Along with how well he is doing academically, he has awesome teachers that are very supportive and instructing him on not only his academic growth but also his social skill growth with his peers. They consult with me on his progress and answer any of my questions or concerns openly. With previous schools, I struggled with lack of communication from his teachers and have realized that Chesterbook is a breath of fresh air.
All of the teachers and staff are friendly and helpful even if my son is not in their physical class daily. As a mom this makes me feel good about the environment he is in everyday while I'm working. Something new that I love is that they have recently incorporated sending notifications and updates of his day through an online/phone application. At the end of the day I receive an email update. Now I get to see all of his great memories and accomplishments that he has during each school day!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark P.San Francisco, CA01Jan 31, 2024
As a new parent, there are many things that concern me in this world. I never in a million years thought that the place I send my child to everyday would be one of the most concerning things in this lifetime. initially when me and my wife chose this faculty, I was under the impression that my son would be in the best environment possible, and I was sadly proven wrong. between the lackluster leadership, to the over crowded with teachers who are obviously overwhelmed and lack support, the safety and wellbeing of any child, let alone my poor Jacob, was the last thing they cared about. I am appalled at the actions of this school and I would think twice about sending any child, or even educator, to this place of business.

Teachers are nice, it's clean and they have a good outside play area. However, the logistics for getting your child enrolled and the principal were very disappointing.

I realized I never updated my previous review. If you have an infant under 6 months, this place is amazing. The caretakers are incredible. After that, avoid like the plague. Awful staff. Even worse "leadership." Your child won't matter to them one bit.
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2May 1, 2018Previous reviewMy son has been going to Chesterbrook Academy since October 2017 and I can't think of another place I'd rather him be. At this point, he has grown from a snuggly little 12-week old to a smiley (and still snuggly) almost 10-month old.
My (long) story:
My husband and I had originally reserved a spot at another center (a competing corporation) while I was still pregnant. Everything seemed fine-- the center was clean, the director was nice, but we toured when there weren't many kids or staff around. I had concerns after taking our son there the first day. The director had changed. The staff caring for my child wasn't warm at all. I didn't have a good feeling, so after my husband had similar feelings the next day, I started looking for other arrangements-- that was on a Tuesday.
When I called Chesterbrook, it sent me to a central calling line and the woman told me there weren't any openings for months-- I turned down a tour (I was on a mission and had little time to find a new place), but gave her my email address and number because she said she'd contact the center director to see if there was any wiggle room in the Infant A room. She called and emailed about half an hour later saying they could make some space. I toured that evening and met with the old center director (who has since left) and one of the ladies from the Infant A room, Anna. The director had told me all about the curriculum, the safety, the cleanliness (all good things/plans/practices/regulations that I was happy to hear), but Anna sold me. I'll never forget how I felt when she looked me in the eye and said, "My goal every day, is to make sure your son feels safe and loved." I took my husband and son to tour next day-- Anna held my son the whole time. By the end of Wednesday, I had enrolled my son at Chesterbrook. He started his first day on Friday. We could not have made a better choice.
The women who care for my precious little man love him. They don't pretend to like him. They don't tolerate him. They love him. And I see they treat all the children in their care with the same love.
The Infant A room (6 weeks to 6-ish months) was like having a room full of loving grandmothers. I'm not saying they're old, just that they're women who have helped raise hundreds of little babies over the years. They were the ones who recommended the best diaper cream, told us (first time parents) when was probably time to buy the next size diapers, and assuaged our fears with every little cough or sleep regression. I cannot put into words how amazing the women in Infant A are-- Blanca, Anna, Rubia, and Linda (though Linda has moved to the Toddler room) have blessed my family beyond measure!
The Infant B room has been a little different, it's like a room of aunties who have seen it all and aren't surprised by anything, but aren't as snuggly as the ladies in the Infant A room. The Infant B ladies have recommended teething toys (that have been worth their weight in gold) and when to keep an eye extra close eye on him because they didn't want us to miss him crawling for the first time and were sure it would happen any second (and they were right).
My son doesn't cry or fuss when my husband drops him off in the morning and greets me with a big smile when I get him every afternoon. He's loved, well cared for, and safe.
Don't get me wrong, there have been some hiccups along the way, mostly based on late communications about things like snow openings or picture day, but I cannot think of a better situation for my son or my family. If you're looking for a care center that will take care of your child exactly as you would, this isn't it-- but think about it, no place is. Anyone who promises to raise your child exactly as you would is delusional-- even your own parents wouldn't do things exactly as you would. But if you're looking for a center that will care for your child even better than you probably could, this is it.
I can't review any of the care for the older rooms or age groups, but if you're looking for stellar infant care, this center should be at the top of your list. I hope the quality of staff and care stays this great! - Kim T.Alexandria, VA04Jul 5, 2019
My son has been going here for about a year. We could not be happier. Ms. Alyssa is a great director. Admittedly, I'm a worrier by nature, and the few times I've come to talk to Ms Alyssa, she has been so kind and easy to talk to, which makes it so much easier for me to leave my son there. The teachers in my son's class are also really kind and welcoming. We started in the Beginners class and recently transitioned into the Intermediates class. I was nervous at first, but they did the move over a few days, so he did part of the day in one room and part of the day in the other, so the move was completely painless!
There's so much more we love about the school, I would recommend Chesterbrook to any family in the area!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Francesca B.Alexandria, VA1411Sep 30, 2016
My children, 10 & 8, started with Chesterbrook this past summer and they loved it! The teachers were attentive and they were given a good amount of outside playing time, as well as multiple field trips. However, I do wish that they had more pool time.
Periodically, the field trips were changed or cancelled at the last minute, which annoyed my children.
The principal was kind enough to order larger tables & chairs because my son is tall for his age and couldn't fit into the preschool chairs. I really enjoyed the summertime kids' talent show. My kids still talk about it and watch the videos. Currently, they are enrolled in before care and everything is going well. I should add that my daughter is a picky eater and she loves the food at Chesterbrook!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melissa J.Washington, DC81132Sep 29, 2016
No daycare is perfect. And, I'll be honest, there have been days when we considered leaving CBA. That being said, we've had our now almost 3 year old daughter there for about a year and a half. We started in Toddler A and have moved up twice since starting there. We recently went through some staff turnover that I actually think has improved the center greatly. I now feel like the leadership there cares genuinely about the children there and the communication has improved tremendously. One of the selling points for me was the daily pictures that were promised, which only just recently started happening. Via their new Tadpoles app, I get pictures and notes every day (no more papers to bring home), which I really love to see. We also get regular communication from the principal on events and news via the app (and email) so I'm feeling much more informed. The behavior plan my daughter has been on due to biting seems a bit harsh to me though (she must be picked up each time an incident occurs and she's been on this plan for 6+ months), which is why I've knocked one star off. Overall, we're happy there, but I think more attention can be paid to children with behavioral issues and support given to the parents instead of asking us to leave work each time something happens. We're lucky enough that we don't work terribly far and we have understanding bosses, but this could really impact someone's income if that wasn't the case. Despite this, things have improved and are continuing to do so. I feel like my child is safe there, the center is clean, the teachers all know my child by name (even ones that aren't regularly in her room) and take the time to speak to me about issues (and assist in things like potty training), my child is outgoing and talkative and seems to be learning a lot, and the tuition is competitive for the area.

Our almost three year old has attended CBA for the last 5+ months, and from the first moment, she was welcomed with open arms. We moved from a small daycare, so it was a bit of a shock to our kiddo, but when you have people like Jessica (former teacher, now admin), the transition is made 10x easier. She has helped integrate feedback we've given into action, which is really key to letting us know that our concerns are taken seriously. Now our daughter can't wait to go to school every day. She's playing, learning, making friends. She loves her teachers. 4 stars because we've seen a bunch of turnover in our short time, but overall really happy with our choice in school.

Our son who is now a year and 1/2 has been in the Chesterbrook Academy "system" since he was 2 months old. While it was - and still is - hard to leave him, I feel confident that he's in the best possible environment outside of the home. The teachers are warm, caring, and sincere and enjoy giving me daily updates of their activities, and seem to take pride in seeing our son's development. The principal, Amanda Csajko, also takes a personal interest in each child and gets to know the families well. We are going to be leaving so I can stay at home with my child, but I know that my son will actually miss his teachers and the activities there. I highly recommend Chesterbrook to all my fellow parents!
