Went to Chaplin last night for HH and it was a great time. They were revamping the menu last night and the new menu will be available TONIGHT. First of all, the cocktails are the biggest I've seen and are delicious and unique. They're all named after Charlie Chaplin films. They have some cocktails on DRAFT, which I thought was really cool.
Ordered: The Kid (loved it) smoky and tangy. My boyfriend order The Vagabond and kept ordering it cause he loved it. It was very refreshing. They came in huge glasses (see pic below). We also tried Woman of Paris, came in a small glass and was good but didn't compare to the other two. They definitely know what they're doing here with cocktails.
Food ordered: the Fried Chicken app (I wanted more but had to share), Beef Dumplings, Pork Dumplings, and Chicken and Shrimp dumplings. Most of us agreed that the Pork was our favorite. The sauces to go with them and the flavors inside of each are really notable. I will be back alone for the cocktails and dumplings. But, we also ordered Ramen when we sat down for dinner (while watching a Chaplin film on a projector!) I got the Chaplin Ass and my boyfriend got the Spicy one (it says spicy in the name). Honestly I think mine was hotter than his! Luckily I like spice. Both were good, but I really liked his. I was searching for more noodles at the end. I could've had more!
They also have a lot of good wines to try. To note: the Chinon la Petit Timonerie, Freynelle Sauvignon Blanc, and Gueissard Rose.
This is a great addition to the Shaw Neighborhood. They are getting their liquor license soon for the outdoor portion so I'm looking forward to that being available. Shout out to Christian for taking such good care of us!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 20, 2023
Continuing my tour of restaurants outside of downtown and Georgetown with my guy, I visited Chaplain's for the first time this past Saturday. Long overdue considering that I had my eye on this place when they first opened up before Covid. Well better late than never; right?
This is a cute, hipster ramen and cocktail spot. Nestled in the Shaw or is it Logan Circle neighborhood at 9th and P Street NW: Street parking was fairly easy to find around 5pm if you're willing to walk a few blocks. Not having reservations, we easily found seating at the upstairs bar which has an authentic view of the city's historic neighborhood. Views aren't just monuments and the mall.
As for food and drink, it was really delicious. Also, they have Happy Hour from 4 to 7 on Saturday! The cocktail names pay homage to Charlie Chaplin's movies and most are half off during happy hour. My cocktail, The Vagabond tasted like a stronger version of a Pimms cup. Our bartender, Alexa was very friendly and responsive to our requests. My ramen called the Mappo Maze was delicious. It consisted of ground pork and tofu in a slightly spicy broth. I added some gyoza which were crispy and bok choy to give it more texture and veggies.
Overall I highly recommend for creative cocktails and Asian fusion ramen.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Aug 22, 2023
Chaplin's is one of my favorite happy hours in DC. During happy hour (4-7pm), their cocktails are half off and are all incredibly delicious. My favorites are The Cure and The Vagabond. Their food is also great, particularly the fried wontons and pork gyoza. My friend also got the Dan Dan ramen the last time I went and she said it was tasty as well. The service is always fantastic - both attentive and kind. I also love how much outdoor seating there is, although the inside is great as well. Will definitely be back many more times!

Came here last night for an easy dinner date and it was amazing! I wish I remembered our servers name because he was fantastic and deserves special recognition! He suggested The Kid as my second cocktail and it was amazing! The happy hour specials were a pleasant surprise. We had the Vagabond, The Kid, the Cure, and a raspberry sour. All were amazing. The wontons are perfect, same with the Shoyu and Miso ramen bowls. Couldn't recommend enough! We're only in town for a week and will be making our way back here at least once before we leave.

While Chaplin's food always looked tasty it was somewhat pricey and above my graduate student stipend. So instead, I visited exclusively for their happy hour specials which run all week long. (Hello weekend happy hour!) Chaplin's boasts impressive draft cocktails and I tend to always go with the Pilgrim, Vagabond or the Cure (pictured). The bartenders will scorch rosemary or use black salt for garnish, which goes to show happy hour doesn't detract from the craftsmanship of these cocktails.

Okay I seriously love DC and their attention to the seasons and mixology.
I am blown away every time by the distinct drink concoctions and beautiful food that is savory and feels healthy.
And not to mention they create some bomb in house fire hot sauces so don't settle for sriracha when you come in.
Okay food - I was surprised by the portion for $14 and only 1.5 pieces of chashu like can I get at least 2 or 3 pieces my man. But let me say the ramen (Chaplin's is what I ordered) was booooommbbb!! It had such a clean taste to it and the addition of black pepper into the broth was killer. There were enough sprouts and cabbage and aahh just the broth was creamy and so so so good and then the hot sauce killed it on top.
I got two of their drinks as well The Tramp and The Vagabond and boy of by were they goooodd. And you know I don't know if it's a California thing but for some reason us CA folks just know when we have another hommie from the state sitting by us and that's where I met Chloe, a business owner you grew up in LA and we just shared conversation over drinks and it just made it all worth while.
I do want to come back to try their injected pot stickers cause those looked interesting as well as some of their small bites. But for a rainy day in DC Chaplin's hit the spot.
2 drinks on happy hour and 1 ramen = $25 for the bill (sign me up)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - RenéShawn W.Pembroke Pines, FL94164Jan 9, 2019
During our 6 day visit to DC we came here twice. Great ramen place with stellar happy hour drinks. Clean bathrooms & nice staff.
Appetizers: Fried wontons were good, wish we got more than 4. Whiskey infused gyoza were ok.
Ramen: Ordered Chaplin's with extra noodles both times. Tons of noodles, you've been warned.
Drinks: The Tramp, The Pilgrim, The Kid & The Vagabond. They are not stringent on the alcohol. Come during happy when they are $6.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 118134509Apr 21, 2018
When I want an awesome bowl of ramen in DC, my go-to place is Chaplin's. Chaplin's is great because the ramen is one of the best in the area, decently priced and to top it all off, there are amazing cocktails as well. My favorite is the Vagabond!
I'm always partial to the tonkotsu broth and their is soft and silky without too much salt. The other dishes on the menu include gyozas and pork buns which can satisfy anyone's craving!
I've only been here in Friday's/Saturday nights but it is always very popular with a mix of 20/30s and neighborhood patrons. The bartenders seem to know almost everyone at the bar. Love this place!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alex K.Murfreesboro, TN7110394Jul 7, 2018
Chaplin's is one of the best restaurants overall that I have ever been to. We recently stayed at a hotel right next to it on our visit to DC mostly so we had easy access to the restaurant.
The menu might seem a little confusing at first, but if you need help the servers are over the top fantastic at helping you understand. The menu consists of numerous Asian plates that feature ramen noodles. At first I thought, "ramen noodles in a nice restaurant?" Absolutely! The mix of ingredients that tops your ramen will make you wanting more!!!
The drink menu is amazing! Chaplin's has about 10 of their most common "drafty spirits" that have the perfect mixes in them. I tried the "Vagabond", which has cucumber water and gin as main ingredients. Very smooth. Next I tried the "tramp". It's their twist on basically an Old Fashioned. Very delicious and stronger than I expected. I also tried a beer from their lengthly list of drafts.
We also tried several of the desserts to finish our meal.
Definitely recommend going to Chaplin's. Their perfect appetizers, dinners, drinks, and desserts will have you returning for more!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauryn C.Bowie, MD02820Oct 12, 2021
Let me tell y'all....10/10. I've always heard that Chaplin's has the best ramen in the dmv area so I was so excited to try and I was NOT disappointed.
A friend and I visited during happy hour so of course we took advantage. As a warning, you can't make substitutions to any of their specialty cocktails since they're all drafted, and classic cocktails aren't included in the happy hour pricing (sucks, I know...) But the value compared to what you get is AMAZING. We got The Cure and The Vagabond - *chef kiss*...it's like 2 drinks in one only for ~$7! And they're strong enough to where it doesn't taste like it'll kill you!
We both got the Chaplin A.S.S., and I added corn and egg to mine. The aromas, the flavors....omg. Some of the best ramen I've ever had. Just too good. It's not really spicy but it does have a slight (bearable) kick to it. If you want more heat, you can ask for their hot sauce to be added.
Anyway, currently daydreaming about the next time I visit Chaplin's. I'm obsessed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rebecca L.Washington, DC3127656Aug 25, 2018Updated review
This is probably the best place for an afternoon drink. I've already tried three on the happy hour list and ALL THREE have exceeded my expectations. My top fave is The Cure (aromatherapy in a very big glass). Second fave is the Peep Show (stay-cay vacay happy hour drink). And I started out with a Flying Duchess. My friend tried the Vagabond, she says it was crisp and fresh with a botanical gin.
Ramen was beautiful, I would definitely prefer over Sakuramen (and that's my major fave).
Micah was the best! Cheer
Nisa is my favorite waitress! OMG is there ever a time where this place isn't great?!
Philip is my spirit animal! Seriously for someone who is not even my waiter but is so personable and so great it is the best place to be on a Saturday night!
Copland is also great, wtf? This is the best place everHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 25, 2018Previous reviewThis is probably the best place for an afternoon drink.
